Ok, let's recap my notes from the last time we saw Quetzalcoatl. • All these changes began when he touched the Mercy Bow. • Since then, he's only been seen in human form. • He stated that he's "rid himself of the negative qualities." (I believe this means he actively used the Mercy Bow, meaning he's its wielder, but that isn't confirmed.) • He's now calmer and more confident, and doesn't bite. I think his anxiety, pessimism, and physical aggression were "the negative qualities" that he got rid of. • A mirror shadow has shown up, previously only seen in Corn's dreams. Corn seems to know who this is (his gender, for one thing) and wants him to make him go away for good. • The shadow mainly appears when Corn is in view of a reflective surface, though not always. (The scene where the shadow attacks Charles is staged so that you can't see Corn entering the room. Whereas a few moments in Back and Forth seem to indicate he can be farther away.) • The mirror shadow goes around assaulting people, but runs away when startled. Charles being among the victims is another similarity to Corn's old behavior. • As of this episode, we see that the mirror shadow is a axolotl-like humanoid with nagual Corn's color scheme. I've seen several people claim that the mirror shadow is Corn's brother. (Named Xolotl, if the original mythology is anything to go by.) I'm not sure I buy it. The timing when the shadow began manifesting, the way he can only go where Corn goes, and the personality all point to the shadow being part of him. He may not look the same, but as docopoper noted, Corn's human form changed too. Conclusion: Corn took everything he hated about himself, stuck it in a mirror, and tried to pretend it didn't exist. And when the asylum staff are getting ready to free his mirror self, he tells them "you aren't going to like him," because he can't imagine anyone *not* hating mirror Corn. Edit: check out "Kitty Explains: Spirits Made" for more on this! There we learn that spirits are made from falling stars, and the triplets came from one star that split into three, and someone came from two stars that collided and merged. And collisions like this are perfectly normal. In other words, Quetzalcoatl has probably lived with Xolotl his whole life, and now he's split himself in half, which can't possibly be healthy.
@hansbrackhaus80173 жыл бұрын
Anxious Corn was a lot nicer than Calm Corn, apart from the biting and stuff, anyway. Calm Corn, starts fights, trolls nurses, engages in bloodsports, mocks Neo Lord of the Night wannabe amputee children, etc. Maybe Xolotl will be the real sweetheart of the bunch.

well, from original mythology Quetzalcoatl is white tezcatlipoca; Xolotl is his (evil) twin brother that supposedly hid from the other gods by taking the form on an axolotl after getting himself into trouble....... but several myths and folklore are woven together in the 'no evil' universe, hard to say for sure which route will be taken.

I really like the bit of the subtle development we can see in Ichabod's character this episode. Before, he wouldn't dare go out in public or face Clark without his wig, but now he doesn't care. Plus, it seems like he's going to carry those letters in his crane form, which would mean he's come full circle in embracing that part of himself, ignoring what the humans think, and caring only about what makes the most sense. I think his near death experience has really put things into perspective for him, and made him realize what's important in life.

I noticed that at the last part, before we see Corn's face after the mirror touch, right when we see he skin turn yellow, (3:54), the other side of the reflection (that's in the mirror) is the color of his human form skin. I wonder if that means the two have switched positions, keeping the human form Corn we've seen since he "rid himself of his negative qualities" locked away. If that's the case, does that mean this axolotl-like (best words I have to describe it) Corn would have to touch the reflection again to get the original Corn back? Gosh, the suspense is gonna kill me. I love the way this episode plays out. The order of scenes, especially in the last part, is really nerve-wracking. Perfect for right before halloween!

This version of human Corn has a chevron under both of his eyes, and the nagual version has no chevrons. Meanwhile in the past Corn had a chevron under his left eye regardless of which form he was in. Interestingly up to the end of episode 18 (where Xochipilli loses his ears to Black Bart) Corn is shown to have two chevrons under his left eye. I'm not sure why the second chevron went away after that event. I looked back at the Judgment comics, and he has the two chevrons under his left eye there too. Now, it could be Betsy simplifying the animation, because there are scenes from before episode 19 that corn was only drawn with one chevron (he's drawn both ways in Episode 2), but as far as I can tell it became a consistent thing from episode 19 onwards, which is right before they went to Hollow. Either way, I suspect the chevrons are supposed to represent tears. Corn is shown crying a lot up until the Mercy bow messes with him. Then he gets two chevrons while in human form but doesn't cry at all. Then his nagual form is crying without chevrons. Another interesting point is that in episode 29 when Corn has a nightmare the reflection he sees back isn't the same reflection he's been seeing in recent episodes, it's much less hostile looking, though it seems to have hands for hair. The weird void Corn is in in that nightmare may represent the inside of the mirror world he seems to have half of him stuck in now. In that nightmare Charles is depicted with black vortex eyes, kinda like mirror Corn's red vortex eyes in recent episodes. Really not sure what this all means, but I am intrigued.

I could see Charles comes up with a terrible scheme and using The Black to form a Snidely Whiplash mustache, just so he can stroke it menacingly.

Holy crap that ending part is creepy as all heck!!! Just the slow turn towards the staff member with crying eyes, the complete and utter reveal that his spirit form has changed dramatically from a regular snake to what looks to be a axolotl, and the whole sound that is played(it sounds like he is a metal statue slowly turning it's head towards someone with an intent to kill or at least that's the vibe that I got from it). Just awesome work with that scene. Awesome work.

I'm amused that Kitty knew, the SECOND Ichabod said "We're going to have to break him out." Her face went to "Oh mystery alive help us-" WELP. He TRIED to warn you! But you had to go and unleash the violent side of Quetzalcoatl... Prepare for some serious consequences.

Theory made up from a few others: Corn's anxiety eventually got to him, he bottled up his "negative" traits and assigned them elsewhere, like in his reflection, and at the end he is reunited with his "negative" traits? I really want our old Corn boy back!

I'm a theory on behalf of my close friend and fellow No Evil fan, kpmoonlady, who's both really busy today and has dyslexia: She's been studying animals and ecology most of her life, and the cave by the temple is similar to the one and only cave where axolotl can be found. It's also the first place we saw Shadow-Mirror Corn, so she thinks he comes from the cave. A lot of us have been thinking something happened at the cave, but this makes me think that cave specifically activated something in Corn when nothing else would've rather than this nightmare being simply within him the whole time. kpmoonlady has also identified what animal almost every character is based on, as well as some resulting implications so if anyone's interested in that comment a name.
@kalinapugmire9593 жыл бұрын
This is kpmoonlady. First that you. Second, anyone who has seen this comment I highly suggest you search up an axolotl, it might help explain my theory.
