I remember in elementary school whenever an adult said someone dark skinned was pretty people would laugh. I mean host do we get that ingrained that dark skinned automatically equal ugly. And only light eyes get compliments and ohhh and ahhhh over. I see very pretty dark eyes but no one says nothing about that. Some people act like a black person with light eyes is like finding a unicorn.

This is exactly what black women say continuously, only to be told we're bitter. To be honest I'm surprised this happens in the gay community, because black men who are darker are seen as ideal (in the straight community). If you're a dark skin woman, nope, you're ugly; light skin man, nope, you're soft. Definitely not surprised about the femme and fat thing. It's just disgusting and everyone is tired of it but the people who swim in this shit. Even people that don't fit any of these beauty standards, expect these beauty standards from other people ?!?!?? Crazy And wear what you want Justin, you're a Leo. It's about how you feel about yourself, not what they think.

One thing I noticed with a lot of gay web series is that it makes it seem like gay males are overly sexualized. They put sex and being sexy out to the fore front. Its never about a man going to school and his experiences like Different World was but maybe with gay males. You usually dont see that.Its always shirt less, nice bodies, gorgeous faces and hook ups. So I do hope you create something where we can maybe see your experiences and how it really is. I would love to see that.

I understand exactly what you're saying. I would like to see more variety in web series and such too. I used to watch Noah's arc and i remember seeing a dark skinned character who wasn't fat but wasn't exactly muscle bound but he was still attractive. I'm a dark skin guy who was obese for most of my life (almost 300 pounds only 5'8) and even though i'm 165 now --i'm still struggling with my self esteem and the damage that was done to me over the years. Honestly, at 30 i'm starting to like what i see but still don't feel comfortable with the gay scene because of how superficial they can be but i'm learning to move past that. I've still never had a boyfriend and guys still reject me unless it's about sex .Honestly, i've learned that it's always going to be something someone is not going to like---you can't fit into everyone's dream. I'm not for everyone and everyone is not for me and i'm actually beginning to be ok with that. overall, it takes a smart person to see past the many "ideas" the media tries to spin on us. Not every man with muscles is attractive and there are plenty of men who are dark skin that are just as attractive as white and other . Features and self presentation are what makes someone attractive not a skin color---at least, this is what i've learned. In conclusion, media is sex and image based---that's what they claim sells but honestly i beg to differ. It would be nice to see real people on TV once and for all. I'm currently working on a comic book project about a rock star who is gay and black and this comic is not going to be focused on sexuality but more on seeing people as people.

I think that colorism is a worldwide issue as well as weight. I think that it's wonderful that you are willing to speak on many topics that others will not even touch because honestly, most people are only concerned with what people want to hear and not what people need to hear. I did blogging back in the day And also did some for another blogger his website is still up mine is down because frankly at the time working and keeping up with a website was overwhelming. I would love to see you do some interviews, I know you are not the celebrity kiss ass type So I think that you would give us something that has been yet to be done. Anyone who is going to do a blog post for you, make sure you check them out from the Rooter to the Tooter and allow them to send you the story, you review and post. Please don't think that I'm talking to you like you're stupid, but I know that some Bloggers will allow others to access their website and I can tell you that is a recipe for disaster. You know how it goes people love you today and hate you tomorrow. Justin is Justin and I know my Lane But if you ever get into a pinch where you just need somebody to do some writing just let me know.Just because I write fucked up on KZbin, I know the difference between KZbin and Blogging. Also, never give your writers all of your secrets or tips matter fact, no shade but less is better. I have seen it happen so many times, they will come under another Blogger and Then Try to take you out. Granted, I know that you are your only competition. I just gotta make sure my Boo is good.

Yessss Justin! I am with you. So many of these stories are just lackluster and lazy! And in the lgbt community, the colorism is soooo real. Everyone looks the same/likes the same things because we've been gentrified to accept just one standard of beauty, and it's very sad. The world is so beautiful and so diverse and that we close ourselves off to so much of it is tragic. I'm of the mentality now wherein if you cannot be bothered to try and represent any of the groups I am apart of, or cannot try to represent any one else and be inclusive to more than a particular archetype, then I cannot be bothered to support you with my viewership or revenue. I've always liked animation because honestly speaking, I always found more diversity there. I write and draw so when I get my bearings together, I'll be creating more myself as well

Saaaaame!!!!! I really liked it at first, but after a while it became eh (season 3)... Also I really didn't like how the butch lesbians basically categorized themselves as men, and tried to stereotype the other women because they were femmes. There were scenes when Rae would say stuff like "a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do," and saying stuff like "you females are so emotional." Like, huh?? Did your vagina get lost somewhere? You're on a show called between _women,_ what is all this man shit?? And I understand trans, and that's fine, but I felt like they devalued femininity to affirm and validate their masculinity, which was some heteronormative, binary bullshit (sorry for the rant lol)

!!!!!!! thank you for this video!!!!!! you are absolutely right. the lack of diversity is sad. the point of these videos is to create a space where the marginalized are represented and although folk are entitled to present their work the ways in which they choose, but marginalizing the marginalized seems to defeat the purpose. there is a notion that sex sells. sex does but sex ain't the only thing that sells. cotton sells. beans sell. water. collard greens. support is needed. and I always say create what you don't see. aesthetically the work Lamont Pierre does is beautiful but that's about it. street behavior is about as diverse body type but the editing and writing on that joint is a but off. as a bunch of other shows. you are asking for quality. which isn't much to ask for. and I don't need these show to be realistic, I do appreciate when the shows understand more than a penis works.

I would go with a black guy or asian or any other race but I would probably be more inclined to go into a relationship with a white man because I am white and that is my preference. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. It doesn’t mean I exclude anyone, I just prefer people of my own race. It’s like you go with certain types of guys just in a lustrous way, if you have kinks etc but you may not want that in a relationship, I know it isn’t really the same but to put it into some kind of sense. If someone is attractive, or you click, at the end of the day, you will wanna explore and sometimes your usual preferences go out the window.
@DailyPositiveAffirmatives3 жыл бұрын
Justin, unabashed colorists are a blessing in disguise. The word "preferences" is often incorrectly used. There is nothing exclusionary about having a preference, e.g. "I prefer to date men who resemble Morris Chestnut, but I'd still go on a date with those who look like Shemar Moore." What most really mean and may not even truly know it, is they're into people who look as far away from black as possible. Consider yourself spared, because you truly are. Never date someone who hates themselves.

After listening to the rest of this, I think you spoke a lot of truth here, Justin. A lot of these gay web-series' I don't even watch. I want to because I want to support anything gay and black, as I think we need to be represented much more in the media, but I just CAN'T! The story-lines are all the same and 95% of it is about sex and lust, and that becomes pretty boring when it gets run in the ground. Like where is the actual STORY? Plus, the acting is usually pretty poor; just being honest. But they're trying, so I don't judge them too harshly. The reality shows are usually the same old storyline about reading, shading, and materialism. I can say that "The Boyz Next Door" is a little different from the rest. I never get bored watching that series; it's well casted and put together, production and editing wise. And I've seen a few great short stories on KZbin. Even the DL: Chronicles was really good when it was running...very professionally done. We just have to be professional and inclusive/relatable with our productions and we'll have no problem holding people's attention. And I can really relate to what you said about not fitting in. It's why I don't post a lot of pics or go to a lot of events. I'm even feeling nervous about this big gay event I'm to in a couple of months because of the same reasons. Gay people, in particular, are often so bougie and snobbish that it'll make you feel very intimidated and unworthy if you don't have what everyone thinks you should have.

Its going to come a time where the basics of beauty and style are gonna be in again and will stay around longer than these trends that are being overemphasized now partly due to the transgender life, people are gonna want to know who is actually authentic as the person they are presenting themselves to be.

@realityskanks18 жыл бұрын
@Justinj1232 Okay I may be lighter skinned and dye my hair blonde but I ACKNOWLEDGE fully that colorism exists in the Black community as a whole and it is SAD that we let something meant to PROTECT US from the sun, something natural, and beautiful as the presence of PIGMENT decide whether someone is attractive or not... It's just silly, but I digress... Now I am not skinny, so the heavy set part I can relate to and actually see from my shoes. The LGBT community is very shallow, and I never felt I fit in unless I was claiming to be a Bear or something and that is just not a box I wanted to be forced into...Granted I don't watch gay series, but I am not surprised on your dissection of them, because I see it all over instagram and tumblr, Justin you are so right, they all look the same and we do have an image problem... and even by looking at one of your comments that said "Oh fat people cannot expect to get attention from a skinny guy, blah blah blah"... just totally missing the mark! It saddens me that these people think self worth comes from whether you can get some dick or get laid, that is not worth! Worth is what you make of yourself in life and dignity. I get what you are saying, you aren't complaining that you can't get any dick, you are simply saying that we need more representation of colors, shapes, and sizes. We need all spectrum of Black gay men, because when a young boy is kicked out of his fucking home for being gay by his parents and then he is shunned by his fellow gays as well because he don't look a certain way... That is hurtful as hell.... Oh by the way, I wanna touch on another point about men being so sex driven... It is actually scientifically proven that gay men are the MOST sexually active, followed by straight couples, and lesbians tend to be the LEAST sexually based in relationships, and that IS NOT because gay men are nasty or sinful, it's just that we are two men and men are usually more sexual in thoughts (sometimes). I totally got your point Justin, I am a huge fan of you, thanks for making worthwhile videos that spark conversation that is much needed. Keep up the good work my friend.

You are projecting. I feel like deep inside there are some insecurities. I am a dark skinned guy and I get attention from every gender and race. I am able to do this because I focus only on self improvement. U can't be fat and expect to date a skinny guy/girl. Everyone wants the best regardless of race/gender. If you are not offering the best, then you have nothing to complain about.
@KingofReads8 жыл бұрын
+Razorfendown completely missing the point. Fat, thick whatever you want to call it. I get attention from men and women all day long. It's not about attention or dating. I'm talking about the representation in black gay media.
@PhenChare8 жыл бұрын
+Razorfendown I'm a bit confused about your statement. What do you mean you can't be "fat" and date someone skinny and that the "best" has to be slim or light? Do you hear/see yourself typing? Who told you that one human is superior to another based on what they look like. The only thing you can say about so called fat is maybe a health issue, but that's not the case all the time either. But the media has screwed your head with their standards of beauty or attractiveness and I think that is what Justin is attempting to state here.

+Justinj1232 I'm just tired of some people and their shallow thoughts judging others by how they "look". I often receive the reverse kind of discrimination which is also prevalent being a light skinned black woman. I've been told that I look "high maintenance" or "like a gold digger" or that I'm not black enough. How stupid is that? These kind of thoughts on both ends of the spectrum is what has couples of any sort ending up in break up after break up because they didn't look for the true substance of a person in the first place.. up until they learn that they are involved with a "pretty asshole" is when they choose to double think their choices. People can miss me with that BS. Give me real.. even if it's real so called "ugly".
@Razorfendown8 жыл бұрын
+OroraMonroe You are probably insecure about who you are that is why this people can get to you. There is a standard of beauty out here and you have to live by it. You can complain all you want and you will always lose the argument. In everything in life, there is always a spectrum. From light skinned to dark skinned, from black to white, tall to short, and skinny to fat. Humans will always pick one end of the spectrum to be superior to the other. This is how natural selection comes works. Even animals do the same. We are wired this way. You can rant and rave all you want. At the end of the day, your one opinion does not affect that of the majority. I am a well known Yoyo dieter and I can tell you, when I am chubby, I get no attention. However, when I get ripped people come out of the woodwork. This is life n I have accepted it. Self improvement is the key. Focus on yourself and not others. Natural selection is a part of life.

The Real Gaywives of Houston I s a webseries that you can check out and fices you something different(dark skin, big guys, feminine). I don't feel like every show has to show every different gay man. About Him is too cute!!! Its the best out right now. I support you wanting to see bigger, darker, more feminine gays on screen.

I, honestly, don't know where you are seeing all of these 6 ft, chiseled, tattood, light-skinned, "masculine" men in these web series', but I would like for you to show me. To me, it looks like 90% of gay men, in the media, are portrayed as effeminate. I, as a masculine gay male, have always felt left out because all I see are eccentric, exaggerated depictions of gay men. There are only *two* gay web-series' I can think of that actually have some men who are masculine, and that is "DL Chronicles" and 'TBND' series, and TBND series also has a variety body types. Other than that, all I see is effeminate (and "in-between") men. I wonder if you guys who are more effeminate or darker skinned would have a problem if every single gay man in media was feminine and/or dark skinned. Is it that you just want everyone to look like you so you don't have to feel insecure? You guys do have to give as much acceptance as you are asking for... But I do get what you're saying, for the most part, and I agree. Gays tend to be very shallow and superficial...especially the men, as we're already very primal creatures. I also agree with you about the light-skinned craze. Gay black men (IDK about lesbians because I'm not a gay female) do tend to be obsessed with light-skinned men, but this colorism has been a problem within the black community, in general and at large, for a very long time; it's not just the gays. Us black people still have this color complex going on that really is troubling/annoying once you grow up and realize how very ignorant and shallow it is. I've seen some beautiful black men, in my life, who were from an almost snow-white complexion to as black as burnt charcoal at mid-night, and I never thought "if only he was lighter" or "if only he was darker" because their complexions fit them so perfectly...and that's the way everyone would see it if they were really mature.

The only PROPER business SUIT is black with white shirt, short or long sleeve, black pants, solid black socks, black dress shoes rounded. Any color tie, but MUST HAVE RED in it. Preferably solid red. AND the tie should be double Windsor period. No half knots. Tie tacks are for church. cuff links simple/optional. And if you think I'm lying about this, try anything else and wonder why you got overlooked. No pinstripes either...

So true... hey Justin I know exactly what you were saying. I was just saying that to one of their creators of a popular LGBT show. why are there not any plus size lesbians in your show? the characters on your show does not represent the diversity within the community. Thank you for addressing this topic

love the video topic and totally agree with you on every level. my question is when will the black gay community be able to be featured on mainstream tv networks or even on other networks ? shit im sick of seeing us play the bag lady holding fish bags or being apart of their team such as wardrobe stylists or hair and makeup crew im so sick of this shit. you have black gay men out here with good normal jobs makin a living. all shapes, sizes and ages. child please this image that we all look flawless is a scam some have a acne with bad ass skin and some are alil more hefty than others like myself. so yes totally agree. they feed this image to the world and you have so many young gays trying to aspire to be this phony thing that isnt real in the everyday normal world and you have some who even go broke or even develop a self hating mentality due to what society deems sexy or appropriate.

You are speaking to my heart. I feel exactly the same. So many people do not want to admit it but it's not that were hating it's just how we feel there's not a lot of black women or black gay man shown in a more natural realistic light. So let's create our own narrative! IG: anyah101

Not for nothing, since I missed it. I thought this was an empire review, lol. I didn't realize how complex the LGBT community is when it comes to these topics. Even watching gay bloggers, gay beauty guru's and gay personalities. It's divisive.
