@@Romanticoutlaw Yes! Children are pretty self aware, since they have to understand the living experience for the first time. Personally I suspect that the ones saying "they're just kids, they don't understand things yet", are: 1) The ones who have forgot how it was to be a kid, or 2) The ones who doesn't want to think about how open minded they were when they were kids

My transmasculine identity made me more in touch with my feminine side. Being a girl sucked, so I was an "I'm basically a boy" tomboy. But by learning about my gender identity, I discovered that feminine things don't cause me discomfort, being female does. However, I'm never buying women's pants again. The lack of functional pockets is a dealbreaker for me.

Most of the cishet people I have known in my life are not at all like that. I hate to say it, but assuming they are is like those of them who do, assume and generalize about all non cishet people. We must all be wary of hypocrisy, or it will be to our own detriment, and the detriment of society overall. Please remember that 70% of Americans want LBGTQIA+ to have the same rights and privileges as everyone else. Most humans in general want peace and prosperity for everyone. But the natural sensationalism of media would have us believing otherwise. Also, in case some here don't follow politics by the numbers, the republicans are Nowhere near "half of the country. At their most numerous ever, in 2020, the entire republican base was less than 30% of the country (74 million out of 255 million). Our greatest weakness, and potential great salvation, are the non-voters. And we have known for many decades now that conservatives almost always vote, so the non-voters overwhelmingly lean left, liberal or egalitarian. I do feel bad for those who grew up in places where being accepted is far less of a thing. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of bigots in the SF Bay Area, but they are the exception rather than the rule there, and that makes them easier to ignore and the bigots were less likely to think being a bigot was okay. That said, I also remember when I was a child in the 70's trucks filled with homophobe/cowards would sometimes drive through the Castro District in SF and throw rocks at the gay men. It used to make me so mad, and even mad at every adult I could find that didn't say they supported the rights of everyone, equally. But by the 90's I never even heard of that happening anymore. We progress, even though evolution is a very slow process. But each generation for the past century has become noticeably less bigoted than the last. I'm proud of every individual in every generation that has worked to make that a reality. We all stand on both the shoulder of all of society today, and all of our ancestors going all of the way back to when we were just slime in the oceans. The good news is, no one can stop the evolution of their own species, and so bigotry is dying now faster than ever. This is why the bigots are losing their minds lately. They can see their precious bigoted ideals dying even better than we can because we want it to just go away and life just feels good then, but for them their bigotry is all too often seen by themselves as part of who they are. That's ridiculous of course, but it feeds into the fear that creates conservatism and the delusions that create regressivism. _"Given a long enough timeline, we win. Guaranteed."_ --Beau of the Fifth Column Anyway, I wish you and all of my fellow Earthlings peace and prosperity.❤🌍🌎🌏 May we all continue to become even better anti-bigots.😊

I'm 46 and non-binary. I've always known since I was small that I wasn't exactly my gender assigned at birth. I didn't think it was wrong, but I knew it wasn't the whole story. It's been REALLY obvious my entire life that I don't fit binary expectations, and I REALLY HATED anybody trying to make me look/act/get interested in traditional gender roles/fashion. It's only now in my life and in our history I finally have the language and people willing to consider me outside of a binary context. It's been very cathartic to my middle-aged heart to finally have that.

Same! I really knew somewhere that I didn't fit gender in any normal way - when I was a teen "girl"in the 90's, I refused to wear makeup until I saw Robert Smith, David Bowie, Trent Reznor, Peter Murphy, and other goth/glam guys looking good in makeup, and I wanted to look like them! Now, after years in the kink and queer communities, I figured out that I'm non-binary in the last 5 yrs, and it's been really freeing. I just wish I could decide whether to T or not to T...

41, and I went from a world where you were either Boy or Girl (and if you didn’t feel like either you kept it to yourself) to a world where not only is there a word for how I’ve always felt, but people are talking about it openly! I started figuring things out in my mid 30s and this is my first Pride month completely out as non-binary. It feels amazing. To the younger folks: thank you so much for supporting us, and for being brave enough to be yourselves in your own time instead of letting yourselves be packed into the closet. Things are so wildly different now than they were when I was growing up, it’s difficult to believe sometimes. I promise that even though we’re playing catch-up with some of the language and concepts, the older folks have your back and are rooting for you all the way.

Even before transitioning they'd ask, even kids who only met me once. My response was always 'What do you think?', which started a lot of arguments between kids on what made me male or female which hilariously many opinions and weird reasonings about it. The conversation would probs have been a lot less free and welcoming if parents had been aorund to 'correct' their behaviour.

Be kind to yourself while healing. Whatever emotion you feel, let yourself feel it and resolve to address it once you're healthy. I had a bisalp last year - not NB here, just childfree. Best decision I've made, but I had weird bouts of regret in the first few weeks afterward during post-op depression. Luxeria's vid on her ffs procedure helped me be braced for that possibility before going in. Hope your surgeries go great!

The bit about looking nonbinary when there is no set way to look nonbinary really hit home. I'm AMAB and more or less masculine presenting, but still nonbinary. I'd love to look more visually queer but I'm not really sure how to do so while also being authentic to who I am and not embracing stereotypes simply for the sake of appearances.
@teek1917

I'm AMAB / demiguy, masculine presenting in how I dress, but even with facial hair I still manage to confuse people. I decided that changing my look to reflect being more "in between" would probably just wind up being redundant. People already have a sense that there's something "off" about me, and if I start presenting less masc, the outcome will probably be even more confusion / people thinking I'm a woman.

I had to pick my gender in a questionnaire just yesterday, and I ended up choosing woman, feeling very uncomfortable doing so. I don't know why I did that, and I regretted it immediately. We've always been with them. (I'm in the "+" part of "TQ+") Those anti-TQ+ people are outliers, not the norm. They imagine they will somehow be magically accepted by the cisgender heterosexual majority if they act "normal" (read as "conform to other people's expectations".) They're wrong, of course, because at their core, their sexuality remains non-conforming, and that will never be acceptable to those who want an unrealistically simple world where there are only cisgender men and women conforming to ideals of masculinity and femininity, and heterosexuality. Tossing us under the bus to please the unpleasable is a lose/lose for everyone.

Explaining nonbinary to most adults is hard. Kids understand it better. It’s sad that a grown adult fights me on my own identity while a 5 year old understand the simple explanation I give and will be fine with it. I’m waiting for Inside Out 2. There’s a lot of speculation that Riley will identify as nonbinary, gender fluid, or something similar because the emotions are mixed genders, unlike the parents and the boy she was crushing on, who had emotions of all the same gender. Pixar needs to make it canon. This nonbinary would love some main character representation for the little nonbinaries out there. Conservatives are going to hate that movie anyway for talking about puberty. It’s also set to release during next year’s Pride.

As someone who is nonbinary and who literally works in different classrooms of elementary students (ages 5-12) every day, I get the "are you a boy or a girl?" question probably an average of once or twice a week. To stave off the exhaustion of constantly being asked that I like to respond with "the answer to that question is No." in a cheery voice and try not to laugh openly as I watch the kid freeze and attempt to process how that works. (If the kid presses for more answer I tell them that I am neither, then have to steer the conversation elsewhere/end it because I usually am trying to squeeze an hour long environmental program into 45 minutes.) I get misgendered constantly at work, by students and teachers, but I keep reminding myself that I am doing double-duty education/representation. I've had 12 year olds come up to me after programs and tell me that they are also nonbinary and that I'm the first nonbinary 'teacher'/adult they've ever met, which honestly makes it all worth it.

I would just like to say to everyone: you do NOT have to come out if you don't feel like it matters. While I identify as nonbinary, I haven't told most people. Strangers can call me whatever they like, I really don't care, and people who know me already get it (it was actually a friend asking me "are you nonbinary? You have enby vibes you know" that led me to realize). The word "nonbinary" wouldn't mean anything to my parents (they do get it, they just wouldn't use that word which is totally fine), and I don't have dysphoria so there's no need for medical treatment. Only come out if you feel like it is going to enable you to live the way you want to. If you are happy with how people treat you, and how you are able to express yourself, then don't feel pressured to come out. We live in a culture that generally pressures us to share information about ourselves without any really good reason. Please remember that when you choose to share information this is a gift you are making to the people you care about and who care about you. NO ONE is entitled to know all aspects of your identity.

Apparently it's canon that Wakko is non-binary, and this wasn't even a new thing from the reboot (although that literally has "gender-balanced, pronoun-neutral" in the reboot opening). It was literally just to make a joke justifying Wakko's existence on Noah's ark, and apparently it stuck. He always counts himself as one of the Warner brothers, but he's been very ambivalent about gender as opposed to just being Wakko.

Tough question, especially for those who don't want to be pigeon-holed into a singular category. It may not be practical for having to parse large datasets, but I'd say three choices: Man, Woman, or Fill in the blank (Please don't give it a label of "Other" - that's irksome by itself.) Maybe a 4th category for "Refuse to answer". If you start trying to come up with a finite list of possible options, you're certain to upset someone who feels unseen / left out. (As someone who doesn't fit any of the letters in any of the versions of the unwieldly LGBT + whatever letters are added, I can speak from experience about that.) For those who want to self-report their gender identity, some of us would rather define it for ourselves, than be told it has to fit into this or that option. I know it's inconvenient. I've had to sort out catchall categories myself processing surveys - though it's usually been a question about culturally-defined race. Since there isn't uniformity, it's just a pain in the neck no matter how you try to accommodate people. Of course you'll have the fun of deciding how to fit those things into how the grant presumably classifies gender. Complete accuracy probably isn't possible.

Love the video It's only been in the past couple years that I've leaned more about the different genders & have wondered what gender I am. I've always called myself a woman because that's what was assigned to me at birth but I never really felt like one gender or the other. Growing up, I was more interested in things that were considered for boys but never felt like a boy. I never really cared about my gender & if someone called me a man, it wouldn't bother me & I don't think I would feel the need to correct them. I usually dress in t-shirts & jeans from the men's section because they're more comfortable, tend to last longer, & have pockets. However, I'll wear more feminine clothes if I'm in a situation where I need to look more professional. And when I have the chance to wear a costume, I'll wear whatever I think looks cool. I don't know if any of that means I'm non-binary or maybe just apathetic about my gender.

@@SeraphGamingYT I recently found out about agender, but have not heard of cassgender & didn't realize gender apathetic was actually a term. I am going to be reading more about each of these to see if any of them feel right for me. Thank you for the information.

I remember one time I was at my church, I was wearing leggings and a baggy shirt, and a kiddo came running up to me and asked if I was a boy or a girl, I said "Well, what do you think I am?" and he paused his running around and playing and said "I think you're a boy" I said "Okay so I'm a boy" he went "okay bye boy" and ran off. I was doing sound work in the children's program.

Speaking of kids having moments of validating your identity: I am genderfluid, afab, and in the closet. I was a man while at an event but could not tell anyone. I knew i would be misgendered the whole time but i went anyway. There was a little boy tagging along with his mom at the event. After it was over, i was hanging out with him and he was showing me some of his toys. His mom came up to us and she asked what he was doing. He said, “im showing him my cars!” and pointed at me. I had to try and hide how happy i was while also assuring his mom that i did not mind being “misgendered” at all. he used he/him pronouns for me once or twice more and it made me so happy!

on my uni campus thers only two gender neutral bathrooms wich r both in the main building, only one has bins so it happens that if i need to use the bathroom after class i have to run across campus and up to the second floor for a week one a month 🙃 (and all mens bathrooms have no bins at all)

All bathrooms need bins. I'm from US so I'm guessing they're the same as trash cans? 🗑️

As a cis man that sometimes dresses androgynously, I can absolutely see how non-binary people should not be obligated to dress androgynously. It’s exactly like telling guys that they have to dress in a manly way.

(4:10) It's the same for binary transpeople, where there's no way you have to be male and female, and no particular way is wrong. But there are still things that are disphoric and euphoric for transpeople, so there's some conflict there.

My favorite thing about the "upload custom gender (maximum 10MB)" thing, is that a compressed version of the original classic game "DOOM" is less than 2.5 MB. Do with that information what you will. (Something something "but what's in your pants")

12:30 reminds me of when we were coding basic websites in my high school computer sci class, and I was making mine on nonbinary/other identities; one younger student in the class sent a private message in binary, followed by some thing about said binary message disproving nb genders, like ?
