How to do the No Handed Kip Up / Kick Up / Chinese Get Up Tutorial
Ever since i saw Jackie Chan do this move I've always wanted to learn it. Now that I've been able to do it for some time, i thought i'd break it down and help people get this move for Tricking, Break dancing, Martial Arts or just have a cool way of getting up :)

I'm able to do the no handed kip up, but I'm not really sure why xD I remember as a kid I'd always wanted to learn to do it because Shawn Michaels did it (WWE Wrestler) but I found when trying to learn the version with my hands it just complicated things a bit.

I finally achieved this last night! It took me about 3 months and plenty of study of every kip up tutorial on KZbin. I plan to create my own when I have perfected the move and will specifically give a giant shout out to you and yours for all the tips and tricks that I learned. For me, the missing piece of the puzzle was to do with the emphasis on whipping your legs down to the ground after you have kicked up. It took many failed attempts to identify that little tip but I would never even have gotten that far without your tutorials! Love your work man!

I'm glad you liked it and for some people it is :) Most of the advice is in the video. The most important points are arching your back and thrusting your legs down so they are underneath you. If they are in front of you then normally you will fall back or stumble backwards when you land. Hope that helps and good luck :)

Yes you can and with some variations, it's easier :) You thrust your legs down so they are underneath you and whip your upper body up. If you have created enough momentum with good timing then you will get up more efficiently. Hope that helps and good luck :)

Hey Arron great video man! It's easier for me to do the kip up without my hands. I keep landing on my feet but I fall down to my back. I really want to learn this so I'm not the only one in my taeknowndo class that can kip up. Any advice besides keep practicing?:)

why when i roll back my momentum goes all the way to the shoulder-Neck-head...and when i kick it,my kick up lands like im squating...am i doing it right??

Just a tip to find and get the momentum to get up ur back try grap a pillow hack it being of ur head and when u kip up try bring that together with ur hands in front

I'm kinda like you. Well, I learned the kip up with hands first, but I landed to the no-handed kip up successfully before I could do so with hands. I still do the no-handed one a lot better, but using hands kills my momentum alot at first, that I felt awkward, however, I don't feel that awkwardness as much, so that probably means that I'm getting better with the kip up with hands. Yet I don't do it as much since it would eventually hurt my right knee. (I had to apply ice pack to my right knee the day after my first kip up success)

When I try this, my kick is good, except my body stays behind instead of flow with my legs. How can I bring my body up?

Yea, but some people learn it without hands first because they don't use their arms enough and leave their body behind or it just feels more comfortable. I landed this before a kip up with hands. Hope that helps :)

I've been struggling with this for months. First I tried doing the normal kip up and that didn't work but I don't get the hang of this one either. I don't know what I'm doing wrong D:

GingerNinjaTrickster Thx. Btw I don't know if you can answer this but did Karate for 4 years. Then I got an inflammation in my left hip, so I had to quit. Now 1.5 years later it still hurts from time to time and I'm not even close to being as flexible as I was back then. So back to my question: Should I start training again if it hurts?

hi ginger :) i can do the kip up with hands, and without too, but i tried without just on the tatami, don't you hurt on the back of your head if you try on the ground? :)

I can do it with my hands and have known that the emphasis is on an upwards kick, not outwards, but for some reason that always slipped my mind when trying it without hands.

Please help when I do this even just 3 or four times it really hurts the frontal muscles of my neck for the next day or two. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Will my neck muscles just get used to it over time and stop hurting?
