I do think tho that there are some games that can benefit a lot from a few changes. You could say that +R gap between top and bottom tier is quite steep, but the game is still great and I don't think you could improve it easily with small changes (non factoring qol like queuing in traning mode and such) But Xrd could potentially gain a lot from just a few changes (YRC, Tech buttons, Danger time, Rollback) Obviously they won't be perfect and you should try to enjoy what you have, but I can't help sometimes imagining what could this changes mean

@@junior1388666 I strongly disagree. Gamerbee vs. Infiltration (Losers Finals at EVO 2015) was one of the hypest matches in the entire history of Street Fighter. Characters "going in" is what I find boring, because there's no tension to be felt from that. If a player tries going in and fails, maaaybe he becomes susceptible to a counter-offence, but maybe he just eats a counter and gets reset to neutral. If a player tries going in and succeeds, great, he pulls off a big combo and... that feels really guaranteed at the utmost top levels. Now, if you play a character whose main strength is turtling and poking (like Elena), THAT's what's really exciting to me. It always feels like one misstep leads into eating a big combo, so watching someone inflict a death of one thousand cuts on the opponent feels very good to witness... well, unless it's Justin Wong and/or 3rd Strike Chun. The point is, maybe people just like seeing their preferred playstyles win? I like zoners, I feel horrible when I eat a jump-in, therefore I enjoy turtling matches more, because they let me live my fantasy out... or something like that, I guess.

Yun's "nerfs" were a fuckin meme, they literally gave him back one of the strongest EX moves in the game and gave him some slight damage and scaling nerfs. BUT he benefited from Ultra's new systems and the damage nerfs were very minor. Cant remember if Capcup was after the 1.04 patch but the changes in that patch were pretty minor

That wasn't really nerfed Yun. At least it's not fair to call that nerfed Yun. Nerfed Yun was AE2012. He was released broken as hell in AE, then nerfed and was in that nerfed state for a few years, then rebuffed in Ultra (which this footage is from). So he was technically nerfed here from AE but he was stronger in this version than his actual nerfed state in AE2012.

As someone who LOVES SF4, my issue was with how I lost to Elena. I was actually in the minority that didn't mind getting zoned by Sim or smothered by Yun, I played a bit of Ryu and Sim myself. But there was a totally different feeling of doing damage to Elena and knowing that you were feeding her ability to regain health, and any break of pressure or knock down could result in her mashing backdash and using ultra

You have the wrong mindset, like so many ultra players. You can't prevent Elena from healing. If you can, she fucked up or you steamrolled her. Instead, don't let her mix you up without spending meter. If you stay in neutral and try and zone her, you're losing the matchup hard. You need to be in her face and force her to play defensively or just outside her normals. If she uses meter to try and get in, you're winning. With healing, she can't punish you with 500 dmg ultra combo - you can. Check Bafael' Elena video to get a in-depth explanation. She was strong, but not even close to Yunn or E.Ryu.

I was just thinking about this same topic the other day, about how people just decided that Elena was like the biggest offender in USF4 while Yun and other offense oriented characters were still terrorizing the meta. I think it was Justin Wong who once said sf4 was whack because eventually everyone would move to Elena. I disagree, of course, cause if you ask the entire fgc about what was SF4's biggest crime at the end, 50% will tell you Elena, and 50% will tell you vortex play. At the end of the day, it's probably a great sign when a game has such a wide range of variety to the point where people cannot make up their minds on whether it was extreme defense of extreme offense.

Extreme Defense will always get hated so Elena was blamed. Elena was hated more than Yun in SF4. Like UMVC3 people hated Morridoom was much, hated on Chris G forgetting that Zero was literally running through the Meta. Evo 2015 had like 4 elenas on top 8. Players just figured her out but she was still broken. Not only she was too good, but she was unfinished. Her hurtbox was all bugged out and she had a teleport glitch against some characters. Also healing shoulda used the super bar, not ultra

Elena's issue wasn't her defensive prowess. It was her broken hit/hurt boxes. More than half the cast could not use their standard BnBs on her because they simply wouldnt hit. Many characters had very poor or no punish options for some of her moves because of this.

I don't remember anything about Elena from that tournament, and I was really into that tournament. I remember there being more Abels then I expected, and this one Makoto player doing well, and being a little bummed that Infiltration using Chun Li got beat by Daigo (since I was surprised he picked her and I played Chun-Li some). I also remember going on EventHub's tier list afterwards and seeing Yun as #1 and Evil Ryu as #2.

You don't get it, Sajam. Yun is just such a popular character that it is not a big deal that he dominated. On the contrary, you should be thankful that he was as oppressive as he was. For real though, Yun has been messed in all his big versions, yet I rarely see people complain about him to the same extend as on this channel. Man, watching and playing SF4 from SSF4 and onwards was so damn fun and satisfying. That was the perfect game for my taste. It wasn’t braindead, had the footsies, had the speed and had insane combos. From Viper’s combos making me feel sorry for the stick, to learning the 1-2 frame loops from Dudley, to eventually doing absolutely dumb shit with Yun, Oni and Evil Ryu. The game had flaws, but God DAMN was that the time when I lived and breathed fighting games. I hope SF6 could bring some of that back for me.

Idk if I'm just a SF4 apologist, but when Sajam was showing the in game examples of Kaz vs Daigo, most of it looked pretty tame relative to what happens in modern games lol. Saying Daigo is scared of Kazunoko jumping can apply to literally any game with a dive kick character. Just because the neutral changes vs characters with good air approaches, doesn't mean the neutral isn't there lol. There are so many examples in the clips chosen where Daigo is dealing with it pretty calmly and winning out in exchanges. Dive kicks aside, when Punk just walks around at mid screen and people are scared shitless to hit literally any button because they might lose 40% of their life and be put in the corner, is that any more or less fair because he stayed grounded?

I’m biased as a Yun main in Ultra SF4 but like...who else was finding tournament success in Ultra SF4 besides Kazunoko during that time? Yun was still great in USF4 but like if he was this really widespread problem back then everybody would’ve picked him and made top 8 every tournament. Yun was strong but Kaz is just an all time great player is why we saw Yun take that last CapCup.

The issue is that many characters in USF4 were pretty close to being as busted. And the top players had been playing other busted characters already and had built up some loyalty to them. Diago had E Ryu, Tokido had Akuma, Bonchan had Sagat, Momochi had Ken, just to name a few. SF4 balance was good enough at the end that character loyalists could justify sticking with their characters (for the most part).

I was so fucking done with SF4 by the time it was winding down. Capcom could have released that mythical, perfect balance patch, and I still would have been ready to bury that game. I know Street Fighter 4 has vocal fans, and I enjoyed my time with it, but damn was I happy to see its backside.

Man, I'm about to get the pitchfork mob after me, but I don't miss SF4 at allllll, lol. I had fun with it, don't get me wrong, and I miss the vibe the scene had, sure, but that's mostly just me wanting the people who were good at SF4 to have had an interest in SF5, not me wanting SF4 back. Vortex, having to master plinking, and crouch teching, Yun, (I didn't mind her, but) Elena. Before Ultra there was ridiculousness like safe DPxxFADC. Even not great, but dumb characters like El Fuerte, and Rufus were no fun to watch. Frankly, this is one of the first times I'm looking forward to the revisionist history on the horizon. 'SFV was a real fighting game, not like this scrubby SF6 garbo!' It's gonna be beautiful, just you wait.

SF5 is more vortex heavy than SF4 ever was. Karin is more broken than Yun. DPxxFADC took resources and execution unlike VT cancel which is 2 button press for an install super and free mixup.

Elena may not have gotten results but Gamerbee vs Infiltration was one of the worst sets I’ve ever watched and it lasted for what felt like an eternity. And if I’m not mistaken it was immediately followed by Infiltration vs Momochi, who also picked Elena and dragged it out.

USF4 has plenty of flaws, but Yun's balance isn't one of them. This is nothing like 3s Chun Li or vanilla SF4 Sagat, Yun is just one of several top tier characters.
