While not to everyone's liking, the 2019 Adidas Copa 19+ introduced something truly special to the world of football boots, offering a fit and feel that we had never seen before! 2 years ago we got its replacement, the Copa Sense+, a redesign that definitely had the right intentions, but unfortunately missed the mark in a few too many ways. Which brings us to 2023, the return of the laceless Copa!
In today's video we take a closer look at the new Adidas Copa Pure+, the latest laceless leather football boots from the three stripes that follow same basic concept they introduced in 2019, but with some major changes to the materials and construction! Most notably, no more kangaroo leather, and a soleplate from the 2017 Adidas Nemeziz! Why have they made these changes, and how does it impact the final product? Bought a pair of these in the blackout colorway over the weekend. Wore them to warm-up my club team's GK before their final. Lovely as a coaches boot, but I also wore them into my men's league match tuesday and they were an incredible experience to play in. They more or less melted away on my feet in a way that I'm not sure anything else in my collection captures that feeling in the same way. I skipped the Sense generation and previously had the 19 and 20+ to which the Pures feel like the next iteration of in so many ways. I think last year in a boot nerds comment section I had pondered the idea of pairing the torsion frame being married with the 19/20+ upper as they used the SG version back then. This is better than I could have hoped for at the time. I'll be getting a few pairs of these if I can.

So happy about this. Loved the Copa 19+ and 20+ and was really let down by the Copa Sense+. Predators have lost their way and while I wait for them to find themselves (not holding my breath on that one), the Copa series has been a breath of fresh air. These looked from pre release photos to resemble that shape of the 19 and 20 Copas am I'm thrilled to hear that the lock down is even better than those models! A pair of grip socks with these and they sound like a winner.

I’m in the same boat and opted for a discounted pair of Copa sense.1 AG. They may end up releasing a set of these in AG later down the line but needed a new pair now. Whilst I’ve used FG boots on AG before (not advised), I suffered mostly with terrible blisters after every game, largely due to the fact that FG sole plates aren’t designed for the higher friction and heat generated on an AG surface. So I would play it safe and get AG classified boots. I picked up my Sense.1 for cheaper than the Pure.4 and they feel great to me!

Probably not because the Nemeziz Soleplate was kind of a FG/AG Mixture and they didn‘t have one for these Models at the time either

For anyone who's owned a laceless boot before, does the elasticated material in the laceless system loosen up noticeably over time? Does the lockdown get a lot worse over a period of time?

That hasn't been my experience. The upper will stretch like any other football boots, but the laceless system typically hold their tension really. The only thing that's even more important with a laceless boot is the sizing. You want as little extra room in the boots as possible to maintain the most tension possible, before and after break-in.

@@Soccerreviewsforyou i completely agree. If you're new to laceless maybe try some on first. Occasionally I have popped a stich near the top of the boot on the heel, which hasn't expanded or made any noticeable change.

I used to work with leather, kangaroos' skin is generally softer and it is more expensive to buy (not by a huge amount). That said, calf skin is very often as good, if not better. It all depends on the quality of the skin of the individual animal, can nearly any animal and still be soft, plush and premium. Except pig skin, thay just sucks for everything except work-wear, just so porous, good for wear, not for anything else. They are saving a little, much more with recycling the Nemeziz 17 soleplate Cannot wait to buy my Pure.1, might get these as well. The blackout is damn gorgeous.....

I used to work with suppliers too and the difference between calf and kangaroo leather is very substantial if you are getting them in quantity. Calf leather costs about a third of premium kangaroo leather.

The leather seems to have creases in between the curves. Will that increase with the use of shoes? Those creases will surely deplets the value of both touch and quality of shoe

The softer the leather, the more it will crease. Every upper creases. More little creases allow the upper to stay closer to the foot when its bending, where as a firmer one will have bigger fold/creases, which will typically be more noticeable when it comes to feel on your foot and/or the ball. As far as uppers go, these bend and move with your feet better than most!

Both are great, it just depends on what you prefer. Objectively the Pure.1 does offer better lockdown and adjustability, which for most people will result in a better overall fit.

A leather boot for the space age. Calfskin can be as soft and supple as some of K-leather out there. Some old school Diadoras used treated calfskin instead of K-leather, well because there are no kangaroos in Italy. Nike in the Legend 7 Elite had a California special made of high quality calfskin. Not all K-Leather is automatically superior to calfskin. The only laceless boot I ever tried was the Speedflow+. Liked them but didn’t love them. Felt slightly looser in the mid-foot and the heel wasn’t totally locked down. These are fine pair of boots, but not for me at full retail. Maybe if I find one with a generous discount I might be tempted.

@@col9883 nike premier 3 are good, also joma rebound series is good too. So there are different rebound lines. Joma Rebound Top Flex and Joma Rebound Regate which gives you a little more bounce and for me are super comfortable.

The new copas look great, the high price I hate, and regarding the reused sole plate, I think it's cool because that's the same plate they used for the customized copa sense for pros, and of thebpros use them they must be great for a reason. And isn't that what we always ask for, similar specs to pros (or as close a spossible). I think many will buy it but dang the price is excessive.
