It’s loads of responsibility and also lots of money on the line. I guess after a while it just becomes repetitive, it’s always numbers, tweaks, runs rinse and repeat. Or maybe they concentrate hard to just try to hide the massive boners they are popping

I used to work at a speed shop, tons of cool cars people would drool over stopped being interesting for years after quitting. It took something really special to get me hyped, and usually they'd just scare the hype away.

They see a lot of cars ruined by amateurs. Having 800hp in a small car isn't impressive in itself. It's making a functional vehicle that can work with that amount of power. Supras is a great example. A lot of them were modified to have hideously high power and torque numbers, but most of those were permanently wasted and made unusable anywhere apart from jerking off to numbers on a dyno. It was easy to modify, and that was it's undoing in many cases.

Essentially why the double clutch gearbox was invented....so the flywheel doesn't have to go into shit-your-pants mode when the revs climb suddenly. Truth is it doesnt make the shifts any smoother. It's asking the synchros to do the jobs they arent meant for. For racing, sure. IT gets power down with less loss however it's havoc otherwise. Good for rracing, terrible for dailying. Also try that in a panic downshift and you'll be picking up tranny bits hundreds fo feet behind you.
@atsernov
@atsernov 2 жыл бұрын
You are mistaken. This is not clutchless, nor power, shifting; this is no-lift on a standalone engine management system that's coded for it. The synchros see no more stress than a "normal" race shift because the clutch is still depressed during the shift. The clutch doesn't see too much more stress than a race shift either, because a normal lift off race shift only drops 100-200rpm by the time the clutch is re-engaged. (Don't get me wrong, it's not good for them... but no worse than a normal race shift and far better than a power shift) What this does is allow the turbo to stay spooled up because the throttle body remains open and blow off/recerc is not triggered by a vacuum spike. This is gives you instant boost once the shift is done. What allows this to happen is ignition kill when the clutch is depressed. That's why it spits flames, the fuel is still flowing but not being burned in the cylinders so it ignites in the exhaust. Without the ignition kill it would just be a power shift and the car would be bouncing off the rev limiter during the shift, that's worse for everything involved... Also, dual clutch systems were invented to allow a shift to happen before torque is taken off of the previous gear. They also don't have a traditional flywheel. But the clutch plates and drum still see all the RPM shock since they are fixed to engine RPM and the friction disks are at an RPM relative to the wheels through the selected gear.

He's keeping his foot flat to the floor (normally you'd lift to let the revs fall for next great) and changing normally. Usually you'd do this by having a clutch switch which brings in a engine cut (does the same thing as a lift just faster). It's kinda a poor mans version of getting a proper sequential or at least a dog engagement H box, where you wouldn't need the clutch at all just a load cell in the shift lever to initiate a cut to unload the dogs and allow the shift. Done properly the car shouldn't buck and rock like that.
