This is awesome! Love the locker-no-locker banter. My 4Runner has the ARB air locker on the front, the factory e-locker on the back and A-TRAC and MTS. Having some traction control options is very nice but that being said, driving experience and knowing how to pick a line is the acid test. It is all good fun and nothing is better than trying challenging trails. Loved the video!

After seeing Gee with his lockers on still sliding, adding rain, longer wheel base and 2000lbs I don't think the line would have helped me. That said maybe I should have tried to know for sure?! As soon as I have them fixed I'll try that obstacle again. I think this trail won't be accessible until spring. Who knows! Lol I can't wait to find out! I definitely tend to lean towards the safe side. So you could very well be right about getting through by picking the right line! Cheers!

It really didn't look too bad. Just the ground was very soft as you can see in the video. I think we made the right call. If I got stuck on the trail we could have had to spend the night up there with the floods that came quickly. I'll be back!!

What happened to your lockers?

The locker sensor started acting up. Originally it was just the locker light that came on the dash but they still worked as they should. I took it in for repairs, they bypassed the sensor, the light disappeared but the lockers wouldn't engage. It's a whole new axle that will fix it but I'm regeared and not warrantied so there's a new plan. Will post updates whether or not it works.....

to be honest, auto's have come such a long way, i think at this point for wheeling a manual hinders us a bit. All our vehicles have been manuals, and the 4lo in this rig really crawls slow so it helps. Overall we love the manual, but for wheeling, it's a bit of a pain. BUT super fun lol

I haven't tried this yet, but I've read somewhere that if you push the brakes a bit it "forces" (or helps) the BLD to lock and it helps in these situations. I have a Sahara so no lockers, and I don't plan on hitting very rough trails so it may not be an issue for me... or maybe it will eventually... As of yet, I've had the BLDs saving my ass a few times when I had wheels almost completely off the ground and with very limited grip. They work well, in most situations, and I have yet to have to use the "push the brake" trick. But yeah, they don't replace lockers for sure.

I think the added weight (2000 lbs after gear) of the gladiator forces the use of lockers. I really need thst extra traction. And when it slips it slips baaaad lol I really like the hit the brake advice. I am definitely going to try that. Will be tough in a manual but I think I can do it lol

@@UnwindingRoads Yeah when I replied I thought it would be a bit tricky for you with a manual but probably doable. TBH I drove "stick" all my life (I'm 50) and I admire you guys with manuals... I tried a manual JLU and didn't like it at all. I must be getting old. 😕😂

The attempts coming out of the water, were you in 4Low? Does TC stay on still in 4Low for your system?

Tc turns off in 4low. And ya I was in for low. There was a giant hole on the other side I kept going into.

Tap your brakes some when off camber. The brake lock differentials should work that obstacle harder?

I didn't even think of that. It is a manual so that will take some skill. I'll try it next time!

Nope you're not missing anything! Rubicon does have lockers. I've been having locker problems for the past 7 months!!!! In 2020 they have an unserviceable sensor. The fix is a whole new axle. We have something else planned for it.

@@UnwindingRoads I've heard that it's a common issue, but that they replace the sensor? Also heard that a Tazer can help bypass. Either way it's probably one of the few reasons I'm happy I didn't get the Rubicon. I got the max tow so same axles and 4.10 but will probably go ARB lockers if I ever find I want to add them.
