Low Elo Legends returns with a rather lopsided game. Pickles4Days was off to a slow start and did his best to hang on while the enemy was living the dream with longbows, yet no loom. Comebacks are possible but this one seemed over for so long... But is there light at the end of the dark, pickly tunnel?

Yes, Salt could have won at that point if he had just reboomed. But the past 45 minutes of that game makes it clear that Salt thought you shouldn't (or hell, maybe even couldn't) make villagers in the Imperial Age. So even if he hadn't resigned, I think at that point, Pickles wins eventually no matter what simply because he had more villagers and was actually making even more. Also, one thing I thought was funny that T90 didn't mention is that Pickles didn't have to build that market near his new town center. His first market in his old base was still intact.

The fact that we played this game as kids has no bearing on the statement that kids don't play this game. We are partially drawn by nostalgia. I think there is some truth to the idea that this game has an older player base.

Older on average than other games, maybe, but not exclusively. The recent surge in popularity for AOE2 will include many under 20s discovering the game for the first time. And while nostalgia might lead many OG fans back into the game now, it's not like the appeal of resource-management, empire-building and rts mechanics is exclusive to older generations. The lack of innovation in the rts genre isn't because of lack of interest from new fans, it's because so much of what makes the genre great has already been perfected by either AOE (2 specifically), StarCraft, and Command and Conquer.

I think that Red's biggest mistake was to not finish the enemy. He almost destroyed Blue's base and instead of keeping the massive army together and destroying the military buildings, he divided it and thought that it was over. This allowed Blue to rebound and Red saw some lost engagements with Blue's Paladin/Skirmisher army; though that it can't be beaten and resigned.

That was an amazing game. Pickles would have been so much better with upgrades, and Salt would have closed it out if he would have spent more of his thousands of resources in early imp. It played out beautifully, though, and I loved every minute of it!

T90 said he had a soft spot for wanting Blue to win. Well, I have a hard time for wanting them to win (circa 15 min) when the Blue player can see the Red player attacking the palisade wall with archers; Blue has skirmishers to demolish those archers; Blue does not bother to move those skirmishers anywhere near the archers in order to protect his villagers! Now Red has gotten me to want Blue to win more. They broke open the hole, and then had the archers attack more of the wall instead of destroying 5 villagers easily. 19:00 Blue (Pickles) attacks Red (Creasing) and slaughters villagers who have not researched Loom (I guess they are worried about Maleficent). Red attacks the palisade walls and will likely slaughter Blue's villagers soon. 25:24 Blue PLEASE send one stupid knight on autoscout! 30:00 I am contemplating breaking T90's thumbs if he keeps moving away from critical battles, right in the middle of them, to show us...NOTHING! 31:45 T90 gets excited about Blue's attack on Red's villagers. He couldn't have cared less about Blue's loss of his last castle 1 min earlier 36:00 Red eliminates Blue's army. I have to wonder how this video keeps going on...

If red would go any cavalry+pike+rams(as a gold unit)switch from longbows and use map resources properly he could finish of the game easily and even i would not have counter to that + hiding some pikes inside rams so when blue's cavalry strikes em he can ungarrison and defend them That would be ideal,but that comment is just how i learn(point is to create logic that beats stuff easily and learn it) from various weird yet exciting situations

I don't know why, but it seems like a consistent theme for sub 900 elo players to be decent in the early/mid game - but then completely forget that the imperial age is a thing, even when floating +10k resources. Generally, not spending resources is the one common weakness it seems every lel player has, regardless of their playstyle and strengths/shortcomings. I think if they just got in their head to spend resources when they float so much, most of them would jump instantly from 600 elo to 1000 elo no problem.

it looks like red practiced a BO but they don't have good fundamentals so they dont spend their money and they dont reproduce villagers and army. Forgetting loom (they definitely just forgot) isn't a big deal because red can just rebuild the villagers if they had good macro.
