Deep Learning Super Sampling allows for dramatically improved framerate at high resolution. A neural network trained on ultra-high resolution images is used to upscale lower resolution imagery at run time, resulting in up to double the framerate.
Presented as a form of anti-aliasing, rendering is upscaled to 4K without image quality loss. On RTX graphics cards, high resolution imagery is possible at the highest possible framerates, including in virtual reality.

One thing I'd very much like to see is a smoother transition between layers of tessellation when touching down on a planet. Idk, maybe I just can't turn the game up high enough, but the detail seems to fade in very dramatically in waves. If that looked better and there was no takeoff lag, the whole game would feel pretty seamless.

They did say this increases rendering distance to the point where it predicts the frames so hopefully that’s fixed because the planets surface at times is completely different from when you see it from a distance

Unfortunately, there is a bug where it comes to the tessellation which has been on-going, since next. You can download a mod either from Rayrod, or from nexus mods to fix the issue with tessellation.

The takeoff lag might be an I/O issue with your PC setup, as it works without hitching on next-gen consoles and Geforce Now remote setups. That being said, while there are a few noticeable "waves" of loading, especially in comparison to how it used to be pre-NEXT, it's still the most seamless game of this kind of scale out there. There's recent spike in Elite Dangerous discussion because of their new landing options, and even with a large team like that, the landing process is literally a hard jump between two (technically three) different world instances. Taking a step back and looking at where others have tried makes the achievements of NMS stand out, and makes it easier to overlook small inconsistencies like details loading in.

@@Yamyatos Fair point. Possibly saying "to date" is more appropriate. Still, there's nothing coming in the next 2 to 3 years that compete in scope and scale of NMS for VR. The tendency -as for now- is to make small games that can be played sessions of 20 to 30 mins. Makes sense, but hopefully is going to get better.

OK it is very nice that this exists but I don't expect I will use it for about 10 years. I expect to be continuing to render all my games and nearly all my movies in 1080p for the foreseeable future. (at least 5 years) I think it might be better to keep improving that multi-player experience so people can work together on quests more. That'd be something I'd be using right away.

You can still very effectively use DLSS without rendering in 4k - they were using 4k as an example because it's more graphically demanding. If, for example, you can only run the game at a steady 60fps using Medium settings, you could use DLSS to increase the settings and visual quality to High or Ultra, still at 1080p, with a similar framerate.

At this point, If I can give much advice or opinion is that at the current place of your game, it would be good if you guys do a vlog of behind the scenes of your day to day for Fans to connect with you, I mean you guys have develop a game that has the potential to out live W.O.W at this point all you need to do now is to connect further with the player base, you guys are literally the West counter part of FF14 development team hence engaging with fans and building repport is a good way to ensure the future of your game. On side note, just an idea for expeditions maybe from time to time do collaborations with other franchise i.e star wars or warhammer 40k or destiny even. High chance that would increase player counts to level never achieved before.

also DLSS is only available to more expensive and harder-to-get GPUs, a lot of people I know are still running on 1000 or 1600 series and AMD's tech works across Nvidia and their own GPUs. They're also working on a competitor to DLSS

Pre-ordered this and was incredibly excited by the mythos and scope of the game. Watched it evolve too. Still, though I've seen so many different updates and additional content, I feel it has become a game that FANS wanted as opposed to how you (Hello Games) initially wanted it to be. Still an awesome game, just wish I could play the way it first began and continue with that feel and gameplay... It was sparse in places and you could travel ages before finding anything remarkable... Yet isn't that space as it probably would be? The mutliplayer, base building and pets etc is great I suppose but that wasn't why I got into NMS... Like your team, I thought it was Asimovs Foundation, all the Heinlein universes, Star Trek and more rolled into one... Anyway it's a great game but I'd love to play the version it began with and take it how it was

does this work in VR? also last time i tried the game everything looked pixelated and awful (In VR) the game looked flat and strange, i'm confused with how nice the images look. did you guys update the graphics? if you have i might give this game another chance, I got this game and went "nope" after 5 minutes because of how blurry and bad everything looked. also hated the reloading in it (you press a UI button to reload)

Unfortunately, no. DLSS 2.0 and on use cores in 20 & 30 series NVIDIA GPUs that are dedicated to AI work, which means you need an RTX card to use the feature.

I think it's just NMS itself. Me and my gf play together with our tvs side by side in our gaming room on PS4, and sometimes we have things not in the same spot or we have more or less vegetation in the same areas.

That's NMS oddities with inconsistencies in vegetation between the different shots/loads/takes. DLSS doesn't affect stuff like that at all. You should be able to toggle it on/off without restarting the game and see it only has a small impact on the final image.

Next update I would like to see something along the lines of perhaps a max 10 second travel time between planets. I understand there needs to be a sense of vastness in the game, but when I've been playing for an hour or more, I get really shitting bored of waiting 45+ seconds to jump planet to planet...all of that down time really adds up to time wasted and makes me think I should really be doing something more productive than doing literally nothing. I LOVE the game and enjoy playing, don't get me wrong, but after jumping, for E.G. 500 planets, you can't help but notice all of those 45+ seconds you just sit there, waiting, doing nothing. So yeah, would love to see a speed up in planet-to-planet travel. Thanks!
