idk, I personally feel like OP kept leading Red on over and over just by giving him the time of day. If by the 3rd time he kept pushing after she said no, she should've just ended all communication and blacklisted him right then and there. The husband didn't have to get involved either. I can't help but feel like OP enjoyed the drama and enjoyed the feeling of this dude chasing after her (and secretly sharing their convos with her other friends to laugh at him) which is why she let it go on for so long. You can try and say it's hard to blacklist someone but after the 3rd time of him pushing for a relationship after she said no and not budging from his mindset, that should've been the end of the relationship right then and there, especially because OP is married and this dude said he had real feelings for her. I'm all for roleplaying to have fun with no feelings attached but if the other person says they have real feelings then that's when you need to drop them if you don't plan on pursuing a real relationship with them. Simple as that. OP should've known better if she didn't want things to get that out of hand and the way she talks about Red as if he's a villain also kinda unsettles me as if she's trying to make herself look better in the situation for leading Red on. @@Kuponobu I feel like the story is true, I just think that maybe whoever wrote it and experienced it was either young and immature and/or didn't want to look like the bad guy in the scenario (or look just as bad as Red) which is why OP kept talking about Red as "the big bad villain" or "cringe" or "the plague". As someone who is 32 and married, I've had kind of a similar situation with a guy in FF14 about 2 years ago, but I made sure to tell him that I had a fiancé irl (I wasn't officially married yet at the time) right away, to which he seemed fine with. As soon as he showed his true colors and tried to control who I hung out with I decided to cut all ties with him. I wanted to stay friends with him (and yes I told my fiancé about everything and he was okay with us remaining friends) because I did care for him as a friend but then I realized that friends don't treat each other like that, so that's when I decided to be the smarter adult and cut all ties and block him everywhere. He's probably terrorizing some other girl but ain't my problem anymore. XD But even though this guy hurt me, I still wouldn't go out of my way to try and paint him out as a total villain. He's told me about his mental issues and so that's probably where it all stems from I assume, which is why I can still have sympathy for the guy despite what he did to me and other girls and probably continuing to do to others to this day, but I would never call him a plague or a big bad villain, that just sounds like something a 16 year old would say. It is so easy to not associate with someone online, you simply block them and that is it, you no longer have to deal with it, doesnt work that way in real life though. This story like most, had no reason to happen if the OP wasn't an idiot, or an attention seeker, and just simply blocked the dude. It is so easily avoidable yet they never do it.
@kyra93379 ай бұрын
Ngl, I don't like OP in this story. The dude was an obvious creep for sure but she had mulitple times to firmly say "no" to him and say she was married. Instead she led the dude on and let him get this clingy to her when she could had rejected him from the very beginning. Also I half-disagree with what she said about dude not taking rejections well at all or refusing to take no for an answer when she did not reject Redcliff at all anywhere in her story or even gave him an firm answer about how she feel. Ignoring him, ghosting him or saying "I think about it" are not firm answers at all and instead putting someone in an confusion about how they are supposed to take your action Not everyone are smart enough to understand social ques. Espically if you are dealing with someone that has mental illness. And the fact she literally went on dates with him in the beginning. Like bruh. What you expect? if we have to talked about gender issues when it comes to proposals, then I have to say that I personally dislike women who cannot give an firm answer to an confession and instead lead an obvious lonely dude on that they don't like for the fun and giggles. Nobody deserved to be treated that way and mocked for their feelings. OP should had rejected him the first time he got creepy. And most dudes do prefer getting an direct answer/rejections. Yes there are some that don't take no for an answer and are horrible. But there are dudes who appreciate an woman that can give an clear respond and will respect their answer. No dude wants to play games with their feelings on the line. So bringing up this topic of "this is why men can't rejection well" is very self-serving and ego boosting there when you didn't do an actual rejection to Redcliff. Felt like I was reading an sexist reddit post. OP should had reject RedCliff from the very beginning. And if he had kept advancing on her afterwards, then you reject him again and blackist/block him. My problem with this is actually the beginning. While understandably once logged out, most have a life beyond FF, I think it's rather inconsiderate to treat everyone else who is in the virtual space as simply the the avatar they play as. There's a real person behind the character, and by default who we are digitally is an extension of ourselves, if not flat out a reflection. Should OP be looking to do RP and play up a certain caricature, I believe then there should be communication about this and there being consent from the other party involved, so they know who they're dealing with isn't who the person is actually portraying themselves to be. Heck, put up the RP tag even, I believe it's only fair, cause imo RPing is meant to be a a shared activity, not a replacement of the person.
@purple_goldfish38119 ай бұрын
I've seen this type of behaviour before. I've lived with one. OP is doing social experiments on Redford and conveniently stringing him along, milking all the cringe. Redford did nothing a creep would. No stalking, no harassing. It's just a typical behaviour of a socially awkward guy. A firm NO would have suffice in this case, it's really not that hard even for girls. Listening to the story I have a feeling that OP never actually said a clear no. As a female myself I honestly find OP disgusting. There is no drama here besides OP outing herself. She sounded like she just wanted a toy who she can freely degrade.
@kyra93379 ай бұрын
Yeah and her bringing up the whole "this is why men are terrible at handling rejections" was an big ass red flag for me that OP was feeding her own ego with this story because that just sounds very sexist to bring up when she is not even in that type of situation where she handling an creepy dude who can't take no for an answer. She didn't even properly reject him and instead led the dude on. Like this story just feels like I'm reading about an narcissist person trying to explain themselves how they are not the bad guys here for how they act. Redcliff could had been an person who was not mentally well in the head and should had been told no from the getgo. Not trying to use mental illness as an excuse for his actions btw, but stringing person along like that feels gross to me when the person was probably not socially adept.

It confuses me when people say "She would've been called stuck-up if she blocked the guy sooner" ...Like what? Please make it make sense. lol I'm 32 (almost 33) and I've NEVER had an issue with blocking someone who is clearly being toxic towards me or bullying / harassing me the moment it happens, and not once have I been called stuck-up for it. It's called being an adult and shutting something down when you see that something is clearly not right and not doing so because you're afraid you'll be called stuck-up is such an immature sounding excuse. (idk how old OP is but I assume in their 20s at the very least due to them being married irl) I might have felt differently about OP if they didn't confess that her and her husband love hearing the drama that Red brings and sharing screenshots to her friends to make fun of how cringe the guy was being, so that might have been an accidental overshare on her part that makes her look bad imo. The whole story gave me weird vibes about the OP. However, despite all of that, I still think Red is also clearly in the wrong, even more in the wrong than the OP. Nobody should ever push boundaries like that, as soon as someone tells you they are taken that doesn't mean keep pursuing them. Both Red and OP need to do better. Hopefully the new blocking system will avoid scenarios like this from happening in the future and that OP learns to utilize the block button better to prevent this from happening again, (because there will always be weirdos on the internet) and hopefully Red learns to respect boundaries better and I hope he's not still out there doing it to this day.

If the OP has been around long enough (especially on Cyrstal) then they'll likely know about the toxic roleplayers that can and do go on disgusting smear campaigns against anyone who pisses them off. Until the blacklist system is updated, it's basically useless. But I was witness to recent events where these toxic roleplayers were accusing other players of disgusting OOC activities in /shout. They made it their mission to destroy their target's reputation and admitted to this in public. And the sleight against them was nothing--their target ignored them, or denied them rp. This game seems to have an issue with bored married folks getting themselves into these situations and then acting surprised about it when shit hits the fan.

If you're in a really, REALLY dedicated relationship then yes it can work. If "the cat person on screen makes me feel the happy in this exact moment" is enough to sever a relationship, then usually there's a lot more stuff going down behind the screen. Sort of a person to person ordeal, really.

@MugiwaraACNH9 ай бұрын
@thecthuloser876 Regardless of what your real life orientation may be, if your interactions in a game are seen as a boundary for a real life partner, it may be unwise to engage in such roleplay genres. Like I said in my original post, people have different boundaries when it comes to relationships and that's their business. Personally, a partner of mine engaging in such things would be a boundary for me. I'm gray ace and homoromantic but still have certain boundaries I would wish my partner to respect. The main issue is people acting surprised when they do engage in these situations and things go south. While you may see it as something harmless, you can't control other people's actions online and how they perceive situations. For you, it's just some harmless exploration of a character but the person on the other side of the screen thinks 'wow this person is flirting with me, maybe they like me'. Things can get messy very easily and I've witnessed it one too many times. I'm not just speaking out of my ass here. It's wise to be cautious about our interactions, and we should take into consideration how certain things might affect not only you as the roleplayer but your partner as well.

35:30 --- This is an interesting take - my dad says the same, and for record: we are not Asian, just your typical big-nosed Europeans ;) Anyway, he likes to say, and I paraphrase: for the love of God, DONT tell others your honest opinion (unless close friends and/family, and even then), it'll always backfire. And... yeah, its kinda true. Sometime the best thing you can do is just turn around and go away. Hell, many of these drama stories could've been avoided if the many OPs and their friends/enemies had just walked away from the situation. ... So, yeah, Asian wisdom, aka common sense, is key :D

I also have never had to blacklist anyone. Granted I play the game with /busy on a lot as I don't even like responding to people complimenting my character.

Why is it hard for you to just say go away or I'll block you.. online?? I can see how women would have a hard time doing this in real life when you're 1 on 1 somewhere with no one around... because some men are so unstable they will kill you.. but online, you just block them... I never understood why some women in online games will always tell me "I keep getting this unwanted attention from this dude" and then NEVER TELL THEM or BLOCK THEM. HOW WILL THEY KNOW if you keep talking to them and giving them what they want and only THINKING you don't want it =__= In 2 decades of online gaming, I've never had this issue before.. because if you don't feel comfortable, you just tell them and they listen 9/10 times. The 1/10 times they don't respect you, you just block them and it's sooooo easy... this only makes me believe you like the attention but don't want to admit it... because it's just two clicks away... to make them go away forever..

36:26 Because most women cant/wont flirt, you don't initiate so men have to read your signs which often can simply be you being nice to us. Because shocker... most people arent nice/kind to men, we are seen as a werido at the best of times, and a creep at the worst of times.

I feel like this is just your standard Crystal experience. Like a rite of passage to attract a clinger when you definitely didn't mean to. I got one simply by complimenting his glam while I was running past him in Ul'dah. I've had a number of guys begging and pleading for my time and attention in tells, some even saying stuff like "I don't wait around" when I literally told them I was not interested. Part of the problem with these guys is that they don't SERIOUSLY want a girlfriend. They want a fantasy, hence why Redford did not care of OP was married IRL, just as long as when they were logged into the game, in their virtual world, she was his. That's all a lot of these people want. I've seen this same scenario happen to married people.

Been playing this game since original release in 2010, i have a grand total pf 15 names on my blacklist and every single one was thrown on it for spamming emotes in chat (excessively), being toxic, or just the dimmest bulbs in the bunch.

whoof... I'm not as much into the RP scene anymore but I learned my lesson about responding to stranger tells while being a catgirl. one dude that I RP'd with a couple times and it got "frisky" would call me a slut because I said I wouldn't be exclusive with him but then also message me wanting ERP. at first I was bewildered and like "uh, you just called me a slut two hours ago" but quickly found the blacklist button to be my friend.

Not even 10 min in and already see there both done wrong so there both not innocent. She gave in as much as he gave in. So if anyone at fault it's both lol. This is why I do not RP because I see so much issues and breakups because of it. I'm with someone I'm with someone. We dont share lol. Been together 5 years thanks to ffxiv and we can't be any happier . ❤just RP and in a relationship in rl with someone big no no. Always rp with your rl spouse not someone else . ❤

Yo, girl, you gotta make boundaries clear straight from the start xD lol I only say this as someone who had to set clear boundaries with a regular RP partner who was super cringe. He SAID he wasn't into ERP, and wanted to create an in-depth story between our characters. He SAID he was married irl and had to worry about his family, so it would never happen. He complained about other RPers not being "serious" enough, that they were constantly late, or that they were just out to ERP... Guess what? This guy was SUCH a hypocrite XD lol He was ALWAYS late and would always try to get us to ERP. I hated it xD LIAR. I bet he didn't even have a family lol After a few sessions of trying to get him to focus on story and plot, I straight blocked him. I just can't handle that. Smh my head lol Make. Boundaries. Clear. Block people who can't respect that. Real talk : P

I don't think people understand that between the blacklist feature being pretty garbage and people do not take no for an answer. My ex boyfriend, even though I have him BLOCKED. Still sends me in game mails and WHISPERS and talks to me whenever he sees me. Like nothing happened! I literally told him that I hate him and will never speak with him again and that I want him to never speak with me again. He doesn't care. I just hope in 7.0 I don't have to deal with him when they change how blocking works.

I want to say she should’ve made a firm rejection rather than hints of indifference. Some people thrive in the dramatic chaos of will they won’t they scenarios like that and confuse hope with hopelessness lol But, I doubt that would’ve worked. If his behavior was what she said it was, guy had some serious awareness issues. The blacklist did not come fast enough 😂
