I'm a 1991 baby and my mom always had TONS of extra sheets and blankets. But I honestly don't remember her pulling the extras out, like ever. But she never got rid of them, so for a while I was the same way. I realized I always wash and dry the same sheets in the same day so the extras were just taking up space and stressing me because the closet was so messy. To donation they went! Have not missed them once. Animal shelters also love things like this, in case anyone needs an idea of a place to take them 🙂

We had the same thing going on. In my parents case I think it was a result of having grown up with nothing, and also being the children of the generation that lived through the Depression. There was very much the sense of needing to be prepared for bad times, of being saving (as my Mom called it), and of not being wasteful.

I am the same exact age and my mom was the same as well!! I've taught myself that it's OK to be the opposite of her, she likes to have a ton of extra stuff for peace of mind, I like to have just what I need and a nice empty space for peace of mind!😊

My daughter has 7 kids and for the shoes she went to IKEA and bought the 16 cubes shelves and the boxes that go in 12 of them and the doors for 4 of them and it works out great for them. They put the shoes in the cubbies and behind the doors thier back packs. Awesome video 💛🌻💛🌻💛🌻

I like doing a whole house declutter in the fall (before Christmas) and mainly in the Spring. I like declutter kids stuff before their birthday's (both are in the summer) and before Christmas. This way, we can see what they need, what they don't, what they like and what they don't. Decluttering always feels soo liberating, destressing, and makes cleaning sooo much easier.

We have 4 older kids and 3 younger kids. By the time the older kids were in high school I had enough leftover school supplies brought home at the end of each year I could’ve stocked a whole elementary school classroom. Last year I was able to fill the 2 still in elementary school with just the supplies we had at home. I think it’s a great idea to ask the classroom teacher if the supply lists are accurate as I’ve had teachers tell me before “oh, the district makes those lists. We won’t use most of it…” 😣 We also reuse backpacks and lunch boxes over and over. Our youngest are in 6th and 4th and have the same backpacks (from REI) and lunch boxes (planet lunch boxes) they started K with.

@@mrslynnwhite absolutely. I want the teachers to feel supported, and I never want my kids to feel less than or embarrassed about what they have. Everything we send is clean and in good condition. There’s been a couple times they’ve wanted a new backpack or lunch box when our school shopping, but they’ve never wanted to go back later that week to get it with their own spending money. 😄

When it comes to bed sheets and bath towels, I keep 2 sets of sheets and 4 extra pillowcases for each bed and 2 bath towels and washcloths for each person (empty nester but since I have queen beds in every bedroom it still equals 2 people per bedroom) and I keep it all in each bedroom closet in vacuum seal bags, except ours as we rotate weekly through everything, bath hand towels are separate because I don’t like buying the sets and buy more seasonal colors for the bathroom, though all the other bath towels are white, those can be bleached as needed and the color doesn’t fade. I keep 2 dozen each of white (again bleach, peroxide and oxyclean powder is my friend) dish washing cloths, flour sack towels for drying dishes and kitchen hand towels and at the end of everyday the used ones goes into the small hamper in our laundry room and I set out fresh before I go to bed, no stinky sponges or nasty hand towels for this girl.

My husband likes to over buy so we were always having to store extras. 2 if my sheet sets were so used and just either beyond saving and one had holes starting. I was happy we get to toss 2 sets because we have like 4 or 5 others. It woll be nice if I can get the extra sets to fit into one container instead of crammed into spaces. I will never have just onw set, that doesnt work for our family because I lnow us and they will never be washed and dried all in one day and hubby is a sweater so our sets dont last a very long time. Ive been gradually decluttering for only a couple of years but have piles of things Ive taken out of our spaces and getting ready for a yard sale. If all does not sell then ai woll tey and list only the items that may be worth anything, the rest I am happy to donate amd get rid of. I woll never be a minimalist, at least not in this stage of life, but I am getting more comfortable with getting some excess out that is just getting in the way.
