I never wanted to be in combat, I wanted to be relied on and meet that expectation. I got plenty of both in Afghanistan and Iraq, especially in Helmand province in that mad summer of platoon house fighting. Now I'm proud of my service but it took a while to feel like that, I was questioning was it worth it when I first got out. I've always read in several old books I used to love about SF that a famous saying is a green beret is always a teacher first and warrior second, sure they're trained warriors but more importantly have the maturity to be a role model and mentor to a resistance force under an oppressive regime which is what always appealed to me helping a foreign country just make things better and happier. Already in the Army and last month another unit on the airfield here at Drum got deployed to Afghanistan to support the evacuations, just thank God every day it wasn't my unit if you're not in or weren't in the military you don't know shit about being deployed its not like the movies.

We had several discussions before he signed, I supported him 100% but the one serious conversation I had is that he 100% was ready to give the ultimate sacrifice. Obviously never want to have to go through that as a father, but wanted to make sure that he fully understood the gravity of what could happen.

I am enlisting soon for the 18x. I have been preparing physically and mentally. A martial artist for over 6 years, and racing motocross since I was 4. Combat is the last thing I want when I think about the job. I know I must be prepared to give my life for the sake of my team, and I'm okay with that. But I want to go Delta so that I can save more lives than I take. I don't think people realize the cost of taking another person's life and anyone that is happy to do so has a few screws loose.
@spuddlingbob87242 жыл бұрын
Besides, combat deployment or not... It's all about preparedness.. You can't start to train SF guys as SHTF.. They need to be ready to go at the onset, and nobody can predict the future, we can only make educated guesses. Thus, having good and squared away SF teams ready to go at all times is vital!

I just graduated nursing school (RN), and have been an EMT for a decade and a Ski Patroller for about nine years. I joined the COARNG as a 68W and leave for BCT next month with the intention of dropping off a packet for SFRE in the future once I get into better shape! Nursing school did me no favors there. I love the thought that becoming an 18Delta will make me more proficient as a nurse, and help me in ALL aspects of my life and career ventures, not just from doing “cool guy” shit and sending rounds down range. @incognitoflamingo869 Жыл бұрын
@@diomedes39 hey buddy! So that would be a better question for an 18D. I’m still in the process of getting ready for SFRE/SFAS. Working as a 68W now with the guard, and in the ER as a nurse and still part time ski patrol. I went ahead and picked up my paramedic cert too. As for ICU to 18D, there’s this really great book “Hammerhead Six” about an ODA with the Utah National Guard I’d recommend looking into. Their 18D was an ICU nurse. I did a few months in the ICU, but my heart is in emergency medicine. I think if you plan to go SF, you might as well pick up that paramedic (one last test you’ll have to sit for/stress about in the Q-course) and it’s too easy with a critical care nursing or ER background. I went through Crowder College. If you can get some ride along time too, all the better. Nights are tough man! That’s what I’m working right now in a level one ER. I feel ya.
@diomedes39 Жыл бұрын
@@incognitoflamingo869 awesome thanks for the book recommendation! I’ll check it out. I’ve been talking to our ems department about doing ride alongs and want to get that cross training. I’m looking at the guard route too since I’m getting married and already have a decent job. How did you find the ED as prep for 68W?
@incognitoflamingo869 Жыл бұрын
@@diomedes39 I was an EMT prior to going to 68W school, then started my nursing job after I graduated AIT. 68W is too easy. Get your EMT-B cert prior to enlisting and you’ll get to skip like half of AIT as an “accelerant”. It may suck to sit through EMT-B school while already working/being a nurse, but it’ll be worth it to not have to sit through that shit in AIT. You might be able to challenge the NREMT exam as well as a nurse in your state. Or, just bite the bullet and do an RN-Paramedic bridge. The one I did was only 8 weeks.

@deadcunt95973 жыл бұрын
Those cool classified missions might be in Mexico, most likely with with a GWOT style occupation closely folowing, the Cartels are too deeply embedded in the Mexican government for them to fix the problem and they are growing out of their control and more importantly, their borders. Some of the Cartels have more then doubled in power since the pandemic started and few cartels have waned in power. Many sons of the Cartel heads were born in the US as citizens and are coming of age around now, and soon it will be too big of a problem for the US to ignore and too big of a problem for law enforcement to handle on their own. It's a strategic interest to keep hard illegal drugs out, keep our citizens healthy and keep China from profitting off of Cartel control in Mexico as they have started to. Especially off of Mining and drug trafficking. This kind of stuff is super interesting to think about.
@novadronetechnologiesinc.32993 жыл бұрын
@@deadcunt9597 your absolutely right , South America Mexico sicaro stuff is definitely also a possibility, just because theres less conflict in the Afghanistan doesn’t mean anything about other combat zones for people to assume that green berets won’t see action is kinda dumb imo, they excel at working in peace time and classified missions will still be carried out

And 2) I know your focus is more Green Beret stuff, but can you sometimes talk about your time as a police officer and stuff like that? Like what’s it really like? Politics? Action? Day to day routines? Sometimes I think about going that way, although I know the current culture is also all over the place with it. Thanks brother! And for all you do! I started shooting again after a few years, was watching videos on marksmanship techniques. Found Ryan Cleckner's videos on rifle shooting, liked the cut of his jib. Started looking into more of his content, his experience. Found some videos on SOTIC, thought it would be awesome to audit a course like that, but of course that's not possible. So, I found some videos describing what the course was like. Then other courses. Thought to myself, "I think I could do this." Then, "If I have the capability, don't I have the responsibility?" If not me, then who? Maybe it's time to stop wondering and start finding out. Time to start training.

There’s always a war on somewhere. Not saying it’s right or glorifying combat. I’m just saying there’s always a fight somewhere.

Worse yet after 20 years the US government walks away and gives Afghanistan to the Taliban when they were completely contained with no US casualties for a year. Looking back to Vietnam from now it makes me wonder if the creation of special forces has been worth it.

I cannot deny that, though I agree with Buck, I still would like to see action. Because I have to know what it’s like. I’m not somebody who can be fake and claim something I haven’t done. However, at a certain point, you must realize that not everyone does, and you must accept what you are truly asking for. You also must be content with what you have done to keep war away. I was a former US Marine, and I remember being really upset that I didn’t go to war, until I realized one day that I went to the Philippines and helped train their Marines. What I may have given them may have saved their lives. And it’s the same, please correct me if I’m wrong, with SF. You are training other nations on how to get those men you train home alive. That is worth ALOT. Also, I do feel like, life lesson here, but if you are doing ANYTHING for simply one aspect of it, you may want to check WHY you’re pursuing that. Check your heart. (Proverbs 4:23) And, to take a mans life, that is something that is, while I can’t say for sure, probably very hard, no matter how evil and misguided those people may be. They are still humans.
