You covered almost everything. Except for the fact that buying an electric car will lead to changing of battery every 3-5 years which will take almost 30% of the vehicle cost. If you compare it with the amount spent on gas till that time it will be a costly affair. A vehicle's life is usually 8-10 years and the cost you are bearing in those 8-10 years for an electric vehicle is a lot more than what you are spending on a gas-powered vehicle. Also, you will be charging your vehicle from the wall outlet which supplies power from the grid. So, you are using electricity obtained from all types of sources. An electric vehicle needs to be more environmentally friendly and pocket-friendly before it is being put onto the market. Just for reference do search on news related to how the metals required for battery manufacturing are mined and sources.

I have worked for a secondary battery company in the past. I believe all vehicles CAN become EVs but not how it is done as it is today and right now is not a good time to set a date to phase ICE vehicles out completely because those promising projections will not turn out to be accurate. The first thing I want to point out is that, modern EVs rely on lithium way too much and their capacity/power is too big. Just like how crude oil is not to be found everywhere, the same it is for lithium. If all cars are converted into lithium battery powered EVs, there will be shortage or at least a huge price hike. What's making this problem worse is that, modern EVs are way too powerful(draining the battery faster) and has way too much capacity for its batteries(consumes a lot of lithium). In my opinion, the auto industry has to diversify the type of batteries, stepping away from the sole use of lithium AND make smaller, more efficient EVs as.... the very basic laws of physics tells us that the energy you use has to come from somewhere. IT IS NOT OKAY TO ALLOW EV TO GET EXCESSIVELY FASTER/HEAVIER BECAUSE IT EMITS ZERO EMISSIONS The second thing is, this is a very recent phenomenon, a totally unexpected one. In some places, the growth of EV is slowing down despite of the ever increasing tax incentives. The first batch of greenies have already bought EVs but the rest of the people won't join in. Of course there are those who simply cannot move on to EVs because they have sympathy for ICE vehicles but the price of vehicles is getting out of hands for those with lower income. This phenomenon will only accelerate as EVs are worthless in the 10+ year old used vehicle market due to the nature of battery life. We must allow more gradual change, not ban ICE vehicles just ten years later. Give time for the market/people to adjust to the change, including the used vehicle market. Not all people will follow the trend just because some one fifth of greenies have changed. In conclusion, it's not just California but ANYWHERE which has set up a date to phase out ICE vehicles in the 2030s, things may not work out as planned. Even if it does, it will come at a very hefty aftermath. Only a tiny number of places like Norway are exceptions. The majority will fail.

There are four types of car owners today. 1. The EV fanatic who has drunk the kool-aid, will not admit EVs have faults, will desperately try to prove EVs can work and will not listen to facts in an argument or will dismiss them as a Big Oil conspiracy. 2. The bandwagon yuppie sort who listened to a politician speak, a commercial, watched something on KZbin/TV about how EVs are the future and bought one. These are going to be the ones who will likely learn the hard way and spread the word that EVs are terrible. Some of their friends will listen, others won't and they will learn the hard way. 3.The tools who want cars that go "VROOM VROOM" and think EVs are a communist conspiracy will NOT want them. 4. The people who think EVs are interesting, are skeptical, do informed research and realize that the more they learn about EVs, the worse it gets. I got taken in by the self-driving car hype. I thought after 2012, it would be standard at least since 2017. It just never happened. The tech industry working on self-driving prototypes lied their butts off. They're still finding out to this day. Many industry insiders have sort of admitted it's never going to happen. The same sorts of people behind the self-driving sham were behind EV development too. That's not a good sign. Grifters thrive by finding out what people want to hear and what they will shell money out for. I don't think the whole EV thing is going to end well. Usually things like this get hyped up and will only fall off the cliff after a major scandal. It's probably about to happen. There was already a guy in Norway that lost his mind when he was told he had to pay thousands to replace his Tesla's battery. When more of this nonsense happens or people wise up to it, that's a wrap.

the infrastructure isn't there yet for EV. There isn't enough space for people to park their car and charge their vehicle while away from home. the power grid cannot handle the demand that will come when more people get EV''s. it's bad enough people in so-cal are fighting for parking spots, now they're going to fight for charging stations on top of that.

I think E-fuels are the future. We don't need to build a completely new infasturcure which costs alot of money and time. E-fuels can takeover from the fossil fuels infrastructure we already have. The only issue is how can we make sure that the power we get to make e-fuel is 100% eco friendly and how can we make sure that the emissions the cars release is put back into e-fuel cycle? Also the shipping and distribution of e-fuels needs to be questioned as well. All great ideas take time, but I think it's a better alternative than going 100% EV.
@billf4429 Жыл бұрын
This is a real grimace because we are trading in gasoline cars for electric cars is just trading in one problem for another. So we are not really fixing anything. By the way, as far as EV's, there should be a cheaper version as far as price is concern. What happens if I buy an expensive one and there is so much dislikes about it?

What you forgot to mention is that ev’s are also much heavier than standard card. So if everyone is going to drive ev’s roads will suffer much greater damage due to this added weight. In other words, the roads will more much more maintained which is very inefficient in costly. The solution is reliable public transport and biking infrastructure, it’s both the greenest and most cost-effective solution.

@dickriggles942 Жыл бұрын
Here's the problem, gas cars and trucks are essential to the global economy to function. Electric cars have so many issues. They're absolutely horrible. You try forcing this onto people, there are going to be massive problems. EVs are NOT being vetted. Used to be in the nineties, they would do that. Now millennials and Gen-X just want to force it through to virtue signal. This is bad. Really bad. Plus the ringleader of it all is a freaking con artist.
@fatsmile77 Жыл бұрын
California can barely keep up with electricity…and imagine everyone charge their car at night or day…rolling black out!! Drive threw is what causing mass pollution…imagine people get out and enter like back in the days, rather then sitting at idle.
@JoeAverage90 Жыл бұрын
Regarding the argument that energy for EVs often still comes from a fossil fuel power plant: Isn't it still cleaner to have e.g. one fossil fuel plant provide the energy for, let's say 5000 EVs, instead of having 5000 single combustion engines provide the same amount of energy?
@hobo1704 Жыл бұрын
No. It's worse. You have the damage to the earth from mining the materials for EV's plus the fossil fuels burned to power them.. If you actually look it up, transport is a small contributor to the global problem. EV's are the biggest scam in history for the uneducated AF
