Welcome back today for my No More Grocery Store Challenge Grocery Haul for July for my large family. I'm about 6 or so weeks in to my new No More Grocery Store Challenge to stay out of the big box grocery stores as much as possible. Here's my special Azure referral link www.azurestand... (this means if you sign up for Azure with my link I might get a $25 credit - thanks!) For the question of Where I Buy My Organic Meat here is my referral link to my local grass-fed/grass-finished meat source www.jlgreenfar... J & L Green Farm here in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. If you check out with your first purchase from the J & L Green farm store using my link, you'll then get a $20 credit and I get a $20 credit. You don't have to use my link, but that's what it's there for if you'd like to use it. I'm shopping through Azure Standard now that it is an option in my area. I'm also shopping local farms and my small town old-fashioned general store for produce deals. I'm growing a big garden, freeze drying, canning, and raising/processing at least a good bit of our upcoming poultry needs. If you're interested in my No More Grocery Store thoughts • NO MORE GROCERY STORE ... here's the video I reference today. I hope you're having a great day! Jamerrill, you're doing great. Don't stress about pick up orders here and there. No need to explain. Anyone who judges you for that isn't worth listening to. And if you do manage to go a long time without a store, that's great too. You're making big strides and your honesty + determination to do what's best for you and your family is what we're here for. We love seeing you do you.

You're doing an amazing job, Jamerill. Don't let the negative comments get you down. I admire the fact that you are giving yourself grace to put in a small grocery order when you need to. Life happens. And I noticed that each time you put in an order it involved something that made life better for your family. Good call, Momma. You've got this. 💜

I absolutely love Paugh’s Orchard and Jon Henry General Store!! My first ever batch of peach preserves were made from peaches I got at Paugh’s. What you are doing to live sustainably, feed healthier, and support local is amazing. I’m so happy I stumbled upon your channel. As a local, it’s great to see how someone from the area does things as it relates to our climate/terrain , local producers, etc. Instant subscribe from me… and now I will go binge watch your content 😁

Please do not put yourself in the position of feeling like you have to apologize to everyone whenever it is that you go into a traditional larger supermarket or grocery store. You are doing a great job, If everyone watching this channel is more conscious of where they're buying what they're buying and continues to support local then the pressure will be felt by the larger companies. Well done!

I stand corrected. After seeing this video, I went and looked for a tortilla press for flour tortillas and YES, they make them. I have never seen one and I spent a LOT of time in Mexico. I really hope to see you using that press in the future. I spent all my years rolling out my own as the elder Mexican woman taught me. If the press works for you it is a game changer for you. You are doing such a wonderful job of moving toward your goal.
@susanmurten6178
@susanmurten6178 Жыл бұрын
Even though they say they're for flour tortillas... really, you're right presses aren't great for flour tortillas because of the gluten in them makes them spring back. In order to get an authentic thin tortilla you'd have to roll it out anyway after pressing it, so then the press becomes redundant. If thicker tortillas are wanted for flatbread, naan etc.. then it would work, but then they wouldn't be tortillas 🤣
@annetterose8948
@annetterose8948 Жыл бұрын
I feel like you could try it, but I highly doubt it would press them thin enough. I live in a highly Hispanic area, and I've never seen a Hispanic woman pressing flour tortillas either.

Jessica at 3 RIvers homestead says if you are going to flash freeze any blueberries you need to poke each berry or else it will take like 30+ hours in the freeze dryer. Just thought I would mention that. Also, do you have a dehydrator? We bought the fruit rollup trays to go inside and I have had an absolute blast making peach, cherry, pear, and blueberry fruit rollups for the kids.

Also, you don’t need to explain why you did whatever. You are a super amazing mother!!! You make certain that your children eat healthy well-rounded meals! If you need to pick up meals, you should. Don’t stay up until one a.m. as you need rest in order to enjoy activities with your sweet children! Take care! You

I appreciate your honest sharing of your ideas and what you are doing to take the best care of your family you can! I have gotten some great ideas and renewed inspiration from watching! For the life of me, I don’t understand how someone who is freely choosing to watch feels compelled to judge or criticize. Life is busy for most of us, and some days don’t cooperate with our ideals and our goals. I admire the challenge you have set for yourself and respect you for all the hard work you are obviously putting into each day! But you’re human and some days we have to choose “good enough,” even while we are working towards “ideal.”

After years of believing that the big box store was the only option for groceries, I too have had on my heart for a few years now that things need to be different. We all make the decision to step away from ‘things’ the world calls ‘normal’ for an assortment of reasons. Each being motivated by personal life experiences or new understandings, (in our case of our food system) maybe for health reasons, but always unique to each individual. Making a decision to move in such a direction is not an easy one when you’re a busy family etc. It is a decision that likely starts with what might be considered a calling on one’s life. It will take courage to buck the system, it takes time to figure out how it will work, as there is a learning curve to accommodate the vast changes, in this case to eating, whether focused on seasonal eating from our own gardens or utilizing the undervalued local farmer who wants to grow well. It also requires a great deal of confidence to take on a challenge like this because of the push back that will come from those who don’t have the same call on their heart. Instead of supporting another’s decision to do things differently for themselves, no matter the reason, they become a voice (unintentionally or intentionally) of doubt. Those in the thick of big life changes no matter the change, will likely experience discouragement that follows when they fall short of their initial efforts, plans or goals. You Jamerrill, are a breath of fresh air. Your calm, gentle and humble manner, is encouraging and inspiring and I hope those who see this video are encouraged and inspired to make the leap into whatever the call is on their heart. Who knows, making a move away from the big box store now, may be what keeps families fed with wholesome food sometime in the future. Thank you for the spark of encouragement I needed today to keep moving in the direction we desire for our family. You are a blessing!

I struggle grocery shopping for just my husband and I. I can’t even imagine living this way for just us, let alone double digits. I just wanted to say I think you’re incredibly brave for attempting this, as well as being willing to fail to learn how to succeed. Especially in front of the world who seems to love to criticize you, something I can’t understand. Your life is 360 different from mine but I’m fascinated watching you try because if I had the option to farm like you I’d literally be your twin lol. I can’t speak for everyone but I appreciate you sharing your life, your faults, your fails, and most importantly, the victories, however small. I don’t believe the same as you, or particularly even like kids 😂 but you have a beautiful life and screw anyone who can’t see that you’re a good human. I don’t mean this bad but I’m so sick of you apologizing to idiots that troll you. It’s ridiculous to me that instead of just moving on they continually pick at you. I’m sorry for them and I hope it doesn’t affect you and that you are getting paid for the views regardless ❤ sorry for the novel 😂

I remember growing up and we had 3 big gardens of vegetables, helped my Mom can & freeze when it was time, Had a local farmer that we went to for other goodies, had another farmer that supplied our milk, which my Mom made butter from the heavy cream. Also we had chickens, pigs, steers, all raised on the farm. Mom had a big freezer and canning shelves down the basement. So needless to say, keep doing what you're doing and if you need to get a few items at the store do it. Proud of you and sending Blessings to you and the family. Love & Hugs

We have several different dietary needs that require different things food wise these days, so we’re definitely figuring things out! I have to put a lot of time and energy into this new journey. I’ve been wanting to do this for years, but just haven’t had the time. However, recent events have left me no choice. By winter we should have 500 pounds of our own poultry processed in our freezers and canned. We will also buy another full cow this fall. We also have two of our pigs We’ve raised that need to butcher. And we should have a lot of things stored up from harvest season. Plus, I do have a good pantry of store-bought items that I’m still mixing in as I can to continue to use those up. We will see what winter holds 😊😊😊

You can do it. I had no choice but to do it for 2022. I have been shifting toward growing produce year round in cold frames. You build raised garden beds and top them with clear roof like old windows or plexiglass during the colder weather months. I am planning on growing arugula and Spanish onions this winter. My fall crops are going to be radish, broccoli and peas.

I’m so impressed with all the homemade food you’re spinning! It’s very inspiring. ❤ and also, maybe it’s worth going to Costco once a year to buy their organic syrup at less than half the cost??? Love azure but that one’s hard to stomach 😘

On Rachel cooks with love she makes tortillas all the time and she uses a ziplock bag that she cut down to fit her press and she just washes the 2 pieces every time she uses her press and the circles last for several uses.

I think the challenge is a great idea. Giving yourself grace to go when life just becomes life. I think the goal is great and if it's once or twice I think that meets the idea and the online pick up is great because you keep to what you need vs a bunch of impulse items

For your tortilla press, you can use a large zip ziploc bag, cut on 3 sides, and you can reuse it, just wipe it down when you finish

I love it when your videos pop up! I'm part of your community and waiting for your business course to open. I've been doing social media for years on KZbin and would love to know your work schedule. We have a big family like you (13 of us), and short content is very different than long content, which I love creating! You're an inspiration! Someday I would love to have coffee with you and chat away! Sending love from Wisconsin!💕
