He probably got sick of putting so much time/energy into an industry that gives nothing back. There's basically no money to be made in skateboarding unless you're one of the biggest pros. Obviously skateboarding isn't about money, but how many years did he put into developing his insole and he probably never made a profit. A person can only keep at it for so long.
