A lot of the older folks swear by cleaning their chain with paraffin/kerosene, then applying a bit of 80/90 weight gear oil. That said, Motul products over here in the UK are considered top-shelf. They make a lot of different grades of engine oil, some specifically for racing, their brake fluids are particularly good (and expensive) and don't boil at the temps the calipers can get to at the track.

That's good to know, thanks! I just recognized the brand and figured less sling would be better than the sprays I was using before. I was watching a video recently where the person used WD-40 to clean their chain - I use a specific chain cleaner product [I forget the name now] and then apply whatever I've got - I'll be using this Motul product this Spring for sure! :D

I use Motomaster 85-140w gear oil, the Canadian Tire no-name brand, jack up rear wheel on my Kawasaki Vulcan 800 and apply it to the inside of spinning chain, a messy job I admit

I have been using the Dupont chain cleaner and chain lube since I started riding. The stuff you get from Walmart! 😂. It actually works really well. But, you have to wait at least an hour after you apply the lube before you go for a ride. Or it will leave a mess on your wheels.

Motul makes good stuff. The chain paste is nice but if you ride off-road I think it is too sticky and collects too much dust and dirt. Not that, that is a worry for you.

My rattled brain used to think if I'm not seeing it on the tire and wheel it's likely not seeping through to the inner friction points and more so because I ran O-ring chains. Now I use Bel Ray spray but I always lube after the ride so it has a chance to sit and do its magic rather than fighting gravity while spinning. My dealer recommends after EVERY ride but I told him if I did that I'd never need him to order a new chain. Since I'm not looking to go through a $15-$20+ can every other month I think I'll give that a shot. It would be better than getting excess spray where I don't want it. Thanks for the plug! HAHAHAHA, I feel seen! My mechanic said he could ALWAYS tell when my bike came in - the back end was coated in chain lube! I've never heard it recommended that you lube the chain after EVERY ride, but 500-1000 miles, and after a ride, while the chain is still warm. That said, this stuff seems to work really well, so when I do my Spring chain service, Motul it is! Glad you enjoyed the vid!

No chain, so no paste for me... I am surprised that you have not thought about selling the Vulcan since it does not get much use. I am not saying that you need to, but if you sold it, I am sure that it would get ridden more. 🙂

I'm sure it would get ridden more if I sold it - but then it wouldn't be mine, and I wouldn't have my first bike... and that might turn into a regret. So, I have no plans to sell it - I have plans to ride it more, especially now that it's stored in my trailer next to the Harley :D
