I remembered this technique from one of your other videos and often use it with just plain water. I'm working on the 100 faces challenge, and once I'm done with the graphite sketch, I go over it with a waterbrush to seal it. I think it works well, although when there's extra buildup of graphite it can turn the water a little gray. Thanks so much for the tip!

Thank you for this video! I struggle because while I love to draw, nothing in my sketchbook feels...finished. Now I have some ideas!

Imho, it's not a sketch anymore, but I do like this. I also continue after the sketch phase to add colour, using coloured pencils or Pitt brush pens.

Dieter Geerts I think you misunderstand what a sketch means in artistic terms. A sketch is just a rough drawing or painting that explores ideas that can be used and considered in more detail later on. Sketch doesn’t mean, ‘just using pencils,’ though there are many people who hold that misconception.

I have always put the paint down first then drawn over the top of it but I think I much prefer your technique. It gives you more control of where you want the paint to show on the drawing with the added benefit of sealing the graphite. I will definitely be trying this out. Thank you Alice. 😊👍

Excellent way to finish a picture. I love the idea of using paint and watercolor pencils which I have and never really use. Time to actually put those supplies to work.

This is such a great trick, both for giving some polish to your sketches and to combat the bane of my existence...SMUDGING!! AAAAUUUUGGGGHHHHH!! I despise fixative spray and colored pencils don't work for every type of sketching I want to do. The one drawback is the paper has to be thick enough to handle wet media... As a side note, this sketch would be amazing on a long-sleeve shirt...

So nice to see you use the Kuretake watercolors I use 😊 and that’s such a nice way to preserve your sketches! I do same thing just with a lighter wash sometimes. I hope I’ll get to see you in the next stream with your new kitten 🥰 have a great weekend!

This was a super interesting video! I have seen someone else talking about using watercolors to "seal" graphite sketches before, but the person just used one color and no watercolor pencils. The way you do it looks much more fun and interesting. I don't do a lot of pencil sketches on my sketchbook, but I'm going to try that technique soon, just to see how it feels. Thanks for sharing!

Would this work with gouache too?
@ghostmoondragon51014 жыл бұрын
Since gouache has a thicker texture, it might add a bit more thickness to your book + it will cover up more of the line art, but it should work, as long as you don't mind the extra thickness and redoing the line art (which you should probably do anyways). Hope this helps!
