mkb3580, Thanks for standing up for this guy. He's honest, and that's a good thing. And this is real life. Sometimes things don't work the first time, or at all. I had a brand new bicycle that I couldn't assemble because of a frozen bolt, I tried tapping on it, WD-40, and everything else . Took to some friends in a shop, and they couldn't break ìt free, either. Those people would be laughing at me, until they saw my friends and their power tools fail, also.

Cool idea. Will try this next time. If it during the summer, I just put the buckets upside down so the hot sun heats the bottom bucket and it expands and I can pull them apart.

Not everybody has a compressor at home ! My old way is to put these stacked / stuck buckets in hot water. Hot water will cause the air in between the bottom of buckets as well as the buckets to expand, then the buckets can be separated easily. Any way, yours is a brilliant idea ! Thanks for sharing ...

Great tip! I’m a woodworker, and use plastic garbage cans for scrap wood. They always stick together when you stack the empties. I can confirm this also works for that problem. No more tugging, and pulling, standing on the handle trying to get them apart…Thanks!!
@followyourheart7818 Жыл бұрын
There is another way to prevent it, you can fold a small piece of cardboard over the rim of the bucket and place the next one in; continue as you stack. Easy and you will not have a problem pulling them apart.

I have worked many years in the paint industry and never crossed my mind to try this technique using a burst of air to separate paint buckets. Brilliant and easy way to solve this problem. Thank you for sharing. I cannot tell you how many times I would use the tug of war method with a worker nearby. Lol😂

Got tired of doing this for years. Finally took the time to put a small rock on the bottom of each one, then stack. It raises them enough to keep from sticking.

Wow! When I was planting my 5 gallon buckets in April I had several white ones I could not get apart. Even had my 14yr grandson yank from One direction while I yanked from the other! Never thought I could use my air compressor like that.. makes me want to go out and do it right now, except I live in Minnesota and it is freaking cold out there ;)
@jenniferlroberts5994 Жыл бұрын
Well, how cool that is!!! The buckets are, what is called, air locked. Essentially, vacuum sealed. putting the air in breaks that seal by putting pressure under bucket.
@scruffy4647 Жыл бұрын
This by far is the best tip I've heard all year. I have multiple buckets that I've accumulated over the years and have stacked them. Some of my stacks seemed to be welded together. LOL. Later on, I put a piece of lumber inside the buckets. I have an air compressor but never thought about using it to unstick the buckets. Good job.

@willcool713 Жыл бұрын
In the restaurant industry this is a real issue as the empties are often reused and put away wet after washing. That's why those are usually kept near the dishwashing station, because running hot water over the bottom of the bottom bucket will also easily pop it free.
@mariannekniel807711 ай бұрын
I cut pieces of that plastic strapping that is used for packing stuff on pallets. I cut pieces that are about a foot and a half in length and place them in each bucket before stacking them. Keeps them from getting stuck in the first place.

Tie a piece of curtain rope ( or something around 3/16 " dia. and the length of the bucket ), to one side of the carry handle. Throw the rope end into the bucket. It will keep the vacuum from forming when you go stack 'em.
@DaylightRob210 Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I will try this next time! Boiling water over the bottom bucket around where the bottom of the the next bucket sits works too. It softens the plastic just enough to ease it off.

@jamiedorsey416710 ай бұрын
That's a really great tip! As a painter what I've done that works fairly well is to stand on the handle of the top one and grab the bottom one by the top when they're upside down. That technique offers better grip and strength pulling them apart.
@jamesd409011 ай бұрын
Very good idea. I think the reason they get stuck together is because when you put one bucket into another, it pushes the air out, and then they seal against one another. Thanks for sharing.

@blazefairchild46511 ай бұрын
Thank you for the tip ,my son and I fight these buckets all the time.
@OOTurok11 ай бұрын
The reason they get stuck in the 1st place is because of the vacuum pressure that is formed when the buckets are stacked together. Some of the air in between gets squeezed out, resulting in there being less pressure between the buckets & higher pressure outside. The Earth's atmosphere is literally keeping the buckets squeezed together. By forcing compressed air between the buckets, you break the air tight seal allowing the air pressure inside to equalize, eliminating the forces keeping them together. For those who don't have a compressor... putting the bottom bucket in hot water will release it, because the hot water causes the air trapped between to expand forcing the buckets apart.
@HeyChickens11 ай бұрын
The hot water also makes the outer bucket expand slightly, and this loosens that bucket's grip on the other one a little.

That Sir ...is a great idea. I set them in a tub of hot water ...it expands the remaining air just enough to help pull 'em apart. Laying some twine in them prevents a seal & the vacuum caused when trying to separate them & takes only one tug. But your idea is far better if one has a bit of compressed air.
