Great info on the fuel pump, thank you. One thing you should be aware of when using an infrared thermometer is that they work by detecting infrared emissions. Not all surfaces are equal in this regard. Shiny surfaces are notorious for lack of emissivity. Flat black and strangely enough water work very well. Do a quick Google on infrared emissivity tables to shed some insight into their accuracy on various surfaces.

Nice video, thanks, I have two older heaters - a Webasto 12v and an Eberspacher 24v - both from decades ago but in really nice condition. The control units were pre-digital and are mechanical and they are not in such good shape - having being mounted on boats where they got exposed to weather, getting knocked, etc. My question is whether one can get a generic modern control unit for them and so put them to good use, or should I just bin them and just buy a new Chinese one cheaply and with all the control gear with it? It just seems a shame to waste them... thanks for any ideas on this.

I used header wrap that I use on my Harley. You can touch the exhaust pipe and it is just warm. The best way to use the heat wrap is to soak it in water to keep the glass fibers from getting on you.
@carlschwarz49354 ай бұрын

Exactly. I soak it in water before wrapping headers on hotrods. I think it wraps tighter and looks nicer when finished. It seems like water makes it more flexible like a wet lubricant and it helps keep those fibers from breaking.

So I looked up this pump on the Amazonian and looking at the reviews. There's a lot of people saying that either it doesn't sound quieter and worse, many people saying that it functioned for a few hours and then the pump just died! So I wonder, since your vid is now over a year, how has the "quieter' pump stood up? Did it last and remain quiet or did you have to put the original back in? I'm just about to press the button to order the Vevor "upgraded" version and wonder if I should just order that pump. I also wonder, if you or others have just tried to dampen the sound of the original pump? Perhaps by wrapping it in some kind of sound dampening wrap and perhaps adding some of that on the lines too. As well, putting dampening material in the inside walls of the case itself. Has anyone tried that and if so, did it work at all?

LOTS of negative reviews, some saying that it's not any quieter and worse, many saying that it worked for a few hours or few days and the dosing pump just stopped working. The thing is with that, it raises the questions, "is the pump so poorly made that it just died" or worse "is the pump pulling way too many amps that it pooched the motherboard?" I wish someone, how has one of these, would do an amperage test then look at the MOSFETS that power it to see their ratings. That might answer this.

@amochswohntet99 🤣. Letting 2 feet of ❄️ and 🧊 sit on top of the diesel heater stopped the noise of the pump and the fan.

Good news, pump is $15 on ebay now.
@RichardSoult6 ай бұрын
Not sure that the pump is actually any quieter. I hear the pump when the heater is on low. When it's on full, the noise of the pump is drowned out by the exhaust noise. What do you think? I am going to put some foam insulation around the pump and see what difference that makes. Either way, I would rather be warm.

the original pump keeps the unit price down but yes better ones are out there

What if you relocate the fuel tank above the unit? Do we even need a fuel pump? Gravity should feed the burner…or am I wrong and is there some sort of injector that needs pressure in there?
@MAXIMUSMINIMALIST9 күн бұрын
The reason the fuel pump makes noise is because it is literally a click pump and it is absolutely required because the fuel pump is what controls the settings. If you took the fuel pump out the unit would not function or likely just catch on fire because the fuel would just flow through without any restrictions.

I first installed a espar heater in my 1998 peterbilt back in 2001. The espar heater was the original, these cheap Chinese heaters was modeled after the espar. I slept under that heater thousands of times in the 17 years I had the truck and not one time did the clicking ever bother me. In some ways I found it comforting, knowing it way 17 degrees outside and my heater was clicking and humming right along. Sad the espar heaters were about $1600.00 even back in 2001 and they are real close to being the same heaters but a huge price difference.

Really so its that quiet? Some Amazon reviews saying its Louder then stock pump & one said the seal blew off the pump & sprayed Diesel every where. Been wanting quit pumps, But they all have such mixed reviews regardless of the brands.

Just add some used filtered cooking oil (up to 70%) and the higher viscosity will make the clicking almost silent. Best way to prepare the cooking oil is using some pork gelatine desolved in boiling water, add it to the used oil and mix it. Let it cool down, and most of the gunk will settle at the bottom. Use the clear oil on the top and filter it.

Used cooking a big NO from us and only ise home heating fuel or a decent road diesel as we have been using those heaters for years.
@troy7124 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that's the best thing you can do if you're trying to ruin your heater
@bluethunderbug Жыл бұрын
@@troy7124 It is for sure not recommended, but I have run it like this for 1 and 1/2 season, with no big issues. For me, it has been a great succes, considering the heater was only 120 euro. Diesel prices here (Europe) are insane, so this is a cheap alternative. I am sure I will need to clean it more often and it will need more regular service intervals, but that is a risk I am willing to take.
Thank you for the video, nice explanations and tips !!!

They last as long as the original ones and are as reliable just a little quieter especially when on max heating.

I screwed foot extenders to mine to get rid of burning issue; also helps keeping exhaust pointed down. Wraps only help marginally. If running outside; the old trick is to drill a 1/8 or smaller hole on bottom of pipe by outlet if you need to point up; lets water drip out and increases flow.

Hi, I can't find your link to the new pump anywhere in your vid post, any chance you could please add a link in a quick reply here, sorry to be a punishing viewer. Great vid, thanks.

you'll rot out the exhaust having it pointed up as the vapour cant all escape.
