Kyle purchased the Tesla Model S / X round steering wheel retrofit from the Tesla accessory website - the Loveland, CO based service team suggested a mobile service appointment and that's exactly what happened! Check out his thoughts before and after the yoke swap to a wheel and the mobile service P100D Ludicrous that was kitted out to repair Teslas. Pretty sweet!

2 stalks: one for the turn signal, one for gear selection. The touch screen doesn't always take the "swipe" which gets to be a hassle during parallel parking or 3 point turns. Lastly, why can't they get the damned horn under the airbag?

Stalk for the indicator is the main issue. Sure America might not have many roundabouts but where you do, the indicator on the wheel is the dumbest idea ever because when you have to indicate off the roundabout you have no idea where the stupid button is because the wheel is turned

Steering wheel snob here as well. Drove my friend's Model 3 with a yoke for a week and just could not get used to it and one time smacked me in the back of the hand when I went to take over as it was about to hit a curb. Problem is more that Teslas implementation is bad and incorrect. Real yoke steering wheels are implemented in a way that you do not have to make full or even big steering turns. You should be able to keep both hands on it even on full turns.

@@baldbikeboy I tried a Plaid with the joke Wheel for two weeks. It was the worst shit I've ever tried. Futuristic? It looks and feels super ridiculous. There is no situation, half a steering wheel is an advantage. On a round steering wheel, you have unlimited possibilities wherever you hold your hand. Lexus has come up with a similar one, but it has variable gear ratio, which is likely to work better. The Joke steering wheel also has lousy quality, the car I drove had not gone far, yet the paint had started to come off on it. Absolutely the most ridiculous and pointless the steering wheel in history. And the fact that it wasn't even possible to choose from the beginning is genuinely stupid.the steering wheel in history. Good for you! Those kits are now sold out. Obviously many drivers prefer a wheel. I always thought the yoke was a poor decision: slick and sporty looking, but does nothing to actually improve steering. Congrats on the wheel buddy! Though I didn't hate the Yoke either, I think it does take away a little from the driving experience. There is just something inherently satisfying about working a round steering wheel. Can't wait to test the Model S with a round wheel now. I think you're initial impression about the seating height is correct. I am 5'10 and in most cars I can set the seat quite low and still have an inch of two left before I hit the bottom - like in my Porsche Taycan. But in the Model S I set the seat all the way down and still feel I am sitting a little high. So you at 6'1 I imagine are seating quite high.

Yokes are for aircraft or any transportation method that requires steering with a limited range of motion. Fine as long as the driver does not cross arms at end of rotational travel. Wheels are for mechanical advantage requirements where multiple orbits may be needed to produce required effort in the steering gear. Like a farm tractor.

I got my Plaid in March of Last year and lived with the Yoke for about 4 months. In July of so, I installed a Hansshow Napa leather round wheel. Every steering wheel should be made of real leather. It felt amazing in my hands. Because it was round and heavy, I was able to drive much more smoothly through parking lots and in tight turns. Then when I was alone on the road and could drive in a spirited way, I finally felt like I was driving a real performance car. I honestly can't say anything positive about that yoke accept that it didn't suck as bat as I thought it would, and it did make the care feel special and futuristic. The horn button really sucks. I have a dent in my front bumper that most likely would have been there if I could have blew the horn fast enough before some bozo backed into me in a drive-thru. It took 3 or 4 months, but now I actually prefer the turn signal buttons over the stalk. I have a new Plaid on order, and I hope the wheel will feel good. I really don't want to risk messing it up by having it recovered in leather.

May look more 'boring', but it's 100x more practical and useful than the spinning wrist-breaker rectangle of death. Drove both and there's no comparison. There's a reason cars have had round steering wheels for over a century. Because they work the best. Other steering methods have been tried before many times, even a joystick, but ultimately, the steering wheel wins out every time because it's the most ergonomic, intuitive and practical. The yoke is just change for the sake of change and a weak attempt to be different. Owners who have a Tesla with a yoke hate it so much that as soon as Tesla started to offer the round wheel retrofit, it immediately sold out in their online store. That should tell you something.

You can tell when an old thinking person owned the car. Round steering wheels were for cars before power steering you know drives like a tank. Electric assist with three quarter turn lock to lock no upper wheel blocking view of dash is the way anyone who has never driven a car would pick. The good news is the market for the yoke wheel as young people buying used Tesla and wanting to upgrade from the old fogey version also remove dice from mirror and foxtail from antenna.

The rumbling noise in the morning is most likely just your tires. Drag Radials and Summer tires don't have silica and they get hard flat spots when parked for a while. Colder it is the worse it is. Driving them for a few miles will round them back out. Also, it doesn't help that the Model S is a bit heavy.

I’ve driven a model S LR with the yoke since Dec 2021 and my greatest problem is the horrible horn button. I expected a NHTSA recall to move horn button to the center where it belongs. Road trips on the highway is where the yoke is great. But, it’s poor for parking and other frequent turns. It does make the car look futuristic. But, within a year or two, I will sell this EV and wonder if there’s better resale value with round wheel.

THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!!! I knew they had to someday give this option. This was my only gripe about not purchasing the Model S. I really hated the Yoke Steering and how it performed!!! The button turn signals is probably something I will have to deal with. Tesla should of kept sh*t the way it is.

Does the new S still have the “rumble” that past owners complain about?

About the airbag, I think why they left it to you, but in the center of the new wheel :) If you look at your video at 15:24 you can see there is no airbag in the new one that is still wrapped... Probably similar to the aftermarket steering wheel for Model 3 and Y where you transfer the airbag from the old one to the new one.

The wheel comes without the airbag installed, otherwise the tech would have to remove it again, on site, to install the wheel. Much easier, safer and faster to not pre-install it.

over engineering of the century. just take a step back and realize how insane it is that Kyle is excited for a round steering wheel haha

I do agree I don't think the yoke is much a safety hazard, I do think that there not being stalks for turning signals is though. I think it just encourages people to use them less as now it takes more effort to find and hit them where with stalks you hit is with a single flick. Personally just don't like the yoke though as on longer drives I like to move my hands around to keep my wrists and arms from getting stiff. Plus in city driving I tend to put my right hand on top of the wheel (around 2:00) just before turns to stagger them. That's not really possible with it. I know it's technically a less safe technique, but I find it more comfortable.

Once you get used to the buttons it is the exact opposite. Slightly moving a thumb is much faster and easier than a stalk, although it definitely takes a while to get used to it.

That’s great that you got the round steering wheel. I’m looking to do the same. I know you’re not gonna respond to this, but do you feel like this is going to make you keep the car longer?

If I were to order a Model S or a Model X, The Yoke doesn't have a chance of making it in the order. I love big wheels cause I feel like I get better control of the car.

Yoke is not a smart idea. It's unsafe for turning, it's unnecessarily difficult and weird for stalkless turn signals... However, I applaud Tesla for pushing boundaries and trying to be innovative, AND I can also understand why it seems like Tesla created a problem and sold us the solution. I don't think that's actually the case because the replacement wheel/install cost is extremely reasonable. I thought about replacing my MYP wheel and it starts at $1,600 without install.

is the steering wheel as wide as the yoke or smaller? I am wishing it is the size of the Y or 3 wheel
