Like Bjorn does. I appreciate him putting it up at the end so instead of having to watch the full 20-30 minute video every time you can just watch the last 5 minutes or so where he shows exactly how much range it got, how cold it was, and how other cars performed in the same weather

That's CRAZY efficient, took delivery of a new MYP on Aug 25th and took a 2K road trip and I averaged 294 wh/mi. I have since dumped the 21" Uberturbines for some TSportLine 18s with 245/50 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. They are still breaking in but I can tell I'm getting some of the efficiency back. Great test as usual. Thanks for all you do for the EV community.

I need a set of 19s for road trips; it seems more practical and probably more comfortable with a taller sidewall. I've only made a few trips in my Model S Plaid, but I have the 21" wheel package, and I felt like the range was probably nowhere near the advertised EPA range. I will admit that driving at 70 MPH on most highways will get many people tailing you, almost crashing into you, etc. I was closer to 80MPH on both my road trips, and I know that impacts the range. Great video!

So rated, to get the 396 is about 245 wh / mile. I suspect if you'd done this test in warmer temps, like mid 70s and on medium instead of low, you'd see even better results. You might think the lowest suspension setting will get you the best range, but the change in total toe can more than wipe out the slight gain in reduced drag. My MXP get's a few percent better in "low" vs "very low" (slightly different labels than MSP). Testing out the new energy graph last night, I took it easy in my MXP for the 124 mile commute home. The energy graph says I paid a total 0.8% penalty for increased elevation. My X Plaid (with 20" wheels) got 268 wh / mile. The outside temp was mid 70s and I averaged 65 rather than 70. So under those conditions, I think you'd hit 245 wh / mile in your S Plaid.
@Cloxxki
@Cloxxki 2 жыл бұрын
EPA rated you might get at cruising speed closer to 60-65 mph. Bjorn Nyland gets WLTP-like numbers with 90 kph (56? mph) cruising. Usually still too fast to match WLTP even in lovely summer weather. Super click aero cars can go a bit quicker on a cruise to match rated.

Edit: 3kw past hitting zero. Nice -TLDW- -Did you run it to "turtle mode" like the EPA does or just to zero %?- This is important and also why fools like Edmunds keep claiming that Teslas don't hit their rated ranges despite matching their rated efficiencies in their tests. If another car (say Audi Etron) stops 100 yards after zero you just can't rely as much on those bottom percent as you can in a car where you know there is a buffer and can tell how much from the power limit.

The top pros verify the car's indicated trip meter on a known stretch to come to a trip over/under %. This usually needs to be taken in/out of indicated consumption as this is calculated based on INDICATED distance, which is not real distance. I think most cars just count whele revolution and use a GUESSED circumference. For SOME reason, they don't cross-reference GPS in the background to come to a proper number on the dash. I don't know why they can't pretend to care about numbers they present. But Tesla is the greatest offender when it comes to quoting anything that can be exprssed through a number...

I would have shut the AC and extracted a little more range. Ideally you should load your car with weight of 4 persons. The results in PNW would be different due to hilly nature.

You better not drive your Tesla near to saltwater areas, because Saltwater could create corrosive damage to the battery packs and star on fire eventually. Obviously that cost a fully replacement, you know the prices.

I wonder if turning on drag strip mode would be a decent way to precondition

Track Mode on Model 3 Starts to cool down everything, because when tracking, getting heat is much less an issue than getting rid of it. What you can do instead is to precondition the car before starting the drive, that way the pack is at least at a decent temperature - not ideal, but not terrible either.

One thing that Tesla has really figured out is efficiency. Almost. 4 mi/kWh at 70mph with 3 PM motors and 255/285mm tire combination is crazy. More impressed by the efficiency than the range since the efficiency is way more important than the size of the battery. Now if they could just figure out the car things like proper noise insulation and suspension design.

Stfu!!!!! They also uses a lot of rare earths in their motors! Other manufacturers like bmw, Mercedes’, vw uses electric motors with no rare earths/elements at all. That’s what I call sustainability

Elon said running a tesla down to 0% does irreversible damage. Thanks for taking one for the team for this range video.

When did he say that? Irreversible damage is always being done even just sitting there aging. Running it down to 0% is nowhere near as bad as charging to 100% and leaving it there.

Something strange I experienced, could be a bug. ?? Great video and watch all the way through. Question? Put my climate on 61 degrees F on auto model X and 70 - 75 mph. My efficiency was almost 40 to 50 watt hour per mile less. Even on very low suspension before it was 10 whr/mile difference. Have you tested your Tesla at temperature settings 61 -62 degrees F to confirm that is a higher (maybe lower) consumption ? I hope it is not too much trouble.

@@MrAdopado thank you so sorry for the mistake. I edited the mistake I meant watt hour per mile. I haven’t tested much lately but my daily commute consumption has improved. I want to test it with a trailer but the same one I tested the past. (?) I am more curious if the new can achieve longer range base on same conditions.
