idk, I feel like most of them are balanced around having the link arrows and don't provide as good of effects for the same investment as other summoning methods. like, two level four monsters can get you a synchro monster with a negation or board wipe effect, or an XYZ with non-targeting non-destruction removal or an evenly matched on legs, whereas for links it can at best give you a knightmare that gives you a single removal in exchange for a discard.

Rush Duels got actualy confirmed to get their own products in OCG. Honestly i'm not a fan of it because it means that we have three different formats (OCG/TCG, Speed Duels and now Rush Duels) and cards from each are incompatibile and illegal in other formats because uhhh... money. I think that cards that got released in multiple formats should be playable in them no matter of from which product it is - for example Shapensnatch from TCG should be playable in Speed Duels if Speed Duel release of Shapensnatch exist, too. And it should be similiar for Rush Duels.

I can definitely see this resulting in a broken-ass tier zero deck. A lot of the newer non-link extra deck monsters have very powerful effects to make up for being harder to summon, like, if you look at most crazy boards these days, almost every negate comes from a non-link monster except for apollousa. And now that you can spam shit without worrying about arrows, it's gonna get worse. Plus, most of the older decks got archetypal link monsters to help them out, but now that they don't need them, those link monsters are basically gonna get thrown out.

really no. it'll be an ftk/infinite negate format. Have fun going 2nd. Don't give me trash about nibiriru in a format you can instant fusion millenium-eyes restrict and then just proceed to combo off from there while still having 5 monster zones at your disposal. Dark ruler won't work either because it'll be easier than ever to search out a solemn judgement type card(s) as well. Also when you actually main sphere mode/dark ruler etc you'll get crushed by a backrow deck. Everyone will have to herd overwhelmingly to the same side deck cards too.

I'm not in favor of these changes. Powerful Synchros, Fusions, and Xyzs released during MR4 like Junk Speeder, Ib, Dingirsu, and Violet Chimera might need to be limited or banned since they're now easier to use and abuse. For this reason, I also think Synchros, Fusions, and Xyzs might be underpowered to balance the game. Also, since they're now a comparatively more restricted mechanic, Link effects might get even crazier to act as incentive for people to use them, even though we already have very powerful Link monsters.

YES! This is an amazing revision! My issue with MR4 was that it forced literally every single deck to use Link monsters, because you can't use the rest of your Extra Deck effectively without them. Now you can finally use whatever Extra Deck card you want instead of having to fill most of those 15 slots with Link monsters, while Link summoning still keeps on doing its job of limiting Pendulums.

I didn't see your prediction video but I predict you something very similar and I'm so happy for it. I'm very old school Yu-Gi-Oh player here before synchros. And getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh after so many new types of cards came out was very difficult to learn everything. I started with a danger dark world, but then move to a danger rank 8 and i love xyzs, but with Link monsters is very hard for me work with links, just for xyz summons and quite often have to link away an xyz to do another xyz

So it seems like rush Duels are their own separate thing, you’ll only be able to use cards that say “rush duel” on them in that format, so apart from the new extra deck mechanics the normal game is unaffected. If you don’t care about rush duels, you don’t have to play them and just play standard. It seems like it’s more marketed towards younger kids since it’s described as a “simple to understand” game.

I can concur on the rule change, I read a bit a Japanese and the main image shown basically goes as followed. Yellow text at the top basically just translates as "Master Rule change (April 1st, 2020)." Bellow that in white is translates as "Extra deck (Fusion, Synchro, ZYX) can be special summoned in your own main monster zone!" Red text translates as "Extra monster zone, main monster zone are both possible!"' Bottom white text with the asterisk translates as "Pendulum and Link Monsters special summon rules don't change."

This is arguably one of the best, and most well thought out things Konami has done in a while. Bring Fusions/Synchros/Xyz back to full power, keep Link Monsters the same as they've always been, then keep Pendulums under MR4 (probably as a balance to keep them from going overboard). I ended up leaving the game simply because MR4 basically made all of the decks I had unplayable, even with Link Monster integration. This would effectively reverse that and maybe even give me an extra sixth zone to work with on top of the original five if I'm reading into this correctly, so I'm definitely thinking about coming back.

Omg YES! When Links were first announced, I was hoping that, like pendulums, most of them were built more as support for previous mechanics to slow down the game a bit, yet also create new, interesting strategies. I was fine with the idea of Link-only decks, as long as they weren’t generic, but as you said, they became powerful enough on their own that they all but erased previous mechanics. My biggest problems with Links, which greatly overshadowed everything I liked about them (cool use of placement, support for older decks, etc.), was that if you wanted to play a fusion, synchro, Xyz, or pendulum deck, you HAD to play Link monsters. It was never practical otherwise. That would have been fine if all generic Link monsters had been better as support cards and terrible on their own, but all the powerful generic Link monsters made everything else comparatively useless. My one concern is that the new non-Link extra deck cards we got in the Link era were kinda balanced around Link summoning, so i’m worried that MR5 might boost them to ban-worthy levels of power. We’ll have to wait and see, though. Either way, good riddance MR4. We’ll keep your dark blue cards without you, thank you very much!

Speed Duels exist in the OCG but it's completely different than it is in the TCG, OCG Speed duels is just your OCG deck reduced to 20 in the main and 5 to the Extra with no side deck if I recall correctly

Links can still ally themselves with any of the mechanics. There's nothing stopping you from busting out a Borrelsword or Knightmare Unicorn in a Synchro or Xyz spam deck (unless you run effects that lock you in). This is especially true with Needlefiber/Halqifibrax in the game.

I like this master rule change a lot from a balancing perspective. Rather than tear link summons and tier 1 decks down, this rule raises all the other decks up (moreso, at least, than the tier 1 decks) which could make for a very interesting format. Games like yugioh tend to be more fun when you can pick up a lot of decks and still succeed competitively, rather than being limited to the limited amount of top decks. That said Thunders really need to get a few hits. Spamming three collosus is just nuts.

Notice in that picture there is no link monsters. I feel like with this you gotta choose whether to link summon a monster or go to other monsters. The first link summon goes to the extra monster card zone. If it's taken by another card type..then they can go other routes to the extra deck of that makes sense.

When it comes to terminology with stuff like MR5, master rule 4 was also an incorrect term. They called it the new master rules in the ocg (probably because japan hates #4), and we called it mr4 because that comes after 3. Similarly with the new prismatics, the community seems to just pic a name that makes sense or is used commonly early on even if the name isn't accurate. So sure mr5 is inaccurate but so was mr4

yes, this is gonna provide easy otk, ftk, and stun locks, but also the following ban list in july would probably fix most problems. it enables a lot of cheesy and unbreakable boards within synchro, fusion, and xyz plays, but conversely at least dozens of archetypes can finally play again in rogue or meta (shaddoll/synchron/fluffal/etc.). that's if this is coming to the tcg.

I'm hyped because of the deckbuilding options this opens up. Like, for my extra deck based removal, am I going to rely on XYZ staples or Knightmares? Same for wincons. Aside from that, Fluffals being able to more easily capitalize on Frightfur Fusion is dope, since I don't have to banish a lad out of the Ex zone to get a new one out. I mainly play pure Trickstars, so I don't really get affected a ton, but hey, I can always pick up another deck. Also, my best bud plays Frogs, so she'll be happy lol

What I'm curious about (I've heard conflicting information on this) is if your first Fusion/Synchro/Xyz still needs to go to the EMZ or if you can still summon it anywhere. Cause if you can summon it anywhere, this actually also buffs Links slightly (though not nearly as much as it buffs Fusion/Synchro/Xyz, obviously). Because if you can summon that first one anywhere, then you can, for example, Super Poly to remove problems from the board and then not be link locked because you just summoned it to a main monster zone. It's not the absolute biggest advantage over what we have now, but it would be possible. Anyway, I definitely think the change is good, but I do think it will probably make some decks too good and they'll need to be addressed. I definitely foresee a limiting of Colossus in the relatively near future (2 banlists from now, probably. Maybe 3 if they want to see how good Thunder is in MR5 before hitting it)

This is from what I understand. For Fusion, XYZ and Synchro monster, you can basically summon it ( the first time, from the Extra Deck), to any zone INCLUDING the Extra Monster Zone without needing to use Link monsters. For example, if you wanna summon Utopia, you can summon it to any of the 5 main monster zones or the Extra zone if you wish to, effectively making you have 6 monster zones! Be warned, this DOES NOT apply to Pendulums and Links as they follow the old rules from MR4; that is if they are to be summoned from the Extra Deck, they need to be put only in Extra MZ or zones that Link monster arrows points to. So there's that.

Fusion and synchros are ok because they take some effort to summon but xyz will be out of hand because they are easier to summon and with link summoning no longer a restriction they can dominate the early game really quickly.

I think this was done so extra linking will stop being a issue. Now the opponent can still get a extra deck monster out when it happens. I feel a bit mad with pendulum summoning. The whole point was to summon a swarm of monsters from the and keep bring the back out of the extra deck repeatedly.

@dzeeff: the way the image look like, only fusion and Xyz monster will not be restricted to be summoned with link arrows, and will be summoned to main monster zone from the extra deck and cannot be place in the Extra monster zone any more, this will exclude Sychro monster, and pendulum, and link monster, because link monster his in the Extra monster zone to used their mechanic. Because it look that sychro would still be limited to used the Extra monster zone, and link arrow, but if it his you can chose to place a fusion monster to either Extra monster zone, or the main monster zone with no link arrow, that would be way too broken. The Master rules 5 are just for people that are too lazy to do the work, for example in master rules 4, if you fusion summone a monster in goes into the Extra monster zone, you can't summoned anymore monster from the extra deck including Link monster since the only available space his occupied, but if you used shin spy and give control of the fusion monster that his in your extra monster zone, it will move to your opponent main monster, and when your turn his done it will return to your main monster zone, not the extra monster zone, or you can banish with matter transporter to do the same, since when it return it will return to a main monster zone not Extra monster zone, now you have a space to do either another fusion, Xyz, or link summoned if you want to add additional space, only applied if they are special summoned from the Extra, if they are special summoned from other place that his not the Extra deck, they are place in the main monster zone, even if you have one already in the Extra monster zone. The only reason why they might change it that way his to prevent blocking link monster from being summoned, because in master rules 4 if you fusion summoned first before link summoning, you block your link monster from being summoned, and you would have to do the following thing that I mention before just to be able to link summoned.

If it his a real change to the main game, the main con, his link monster only used there mechanic for themself, and face-up extra deck pendulum monster. Pro his people that only want to used fusion monster in the Extra deck will no longer have to add link monster, the same for people that only want to used just sychro, or just Xyz in the extra deck, or just want to used does 3 diffrent type. If the really change to the rules mention they would have to limited Totatlly awseome, and also limite the synchro of the six samaria that negated the activation of card, If they don't limited they would have to errata the text, to be a hard used once per turn, for both six samarie and totatlly awseome negated activation effect.
