To be fair, they were used in this weird speed-duel experiment, which is how their restriction came to be.... Iirc, speed duels are defined by having this weird speed-duel-field-spell on both sides of the field, which are completely indestructible and you can't play any other field spells either, which negates one of their biggest weaknesses. Without this they probably would be slightly better, albeit I doubt they'd see any play even then.

Things Earthbound Immortals need: 1) Field spell that’s hard to get rid of if you play it right, like Citadel. 2) Quick play that lets you SS them from hand or deck, but halves their attack until the end phase or something 3) Link Monster that either helps them stay on the field or let’s them attack without worry of being interrupted 4) Contact Fusion of 2 different EI’s that doesn’t need a field spell and has it’s own protection 5) Recovery if they’re destroyed by their own effects Wishful thinking, because I always loved their concept

I love that the upcoming continuous trap The Ultimate Earthbound Immortal is so bad it didn't even warrant mention. Back in the day I played a terrible, gimmicky deck that used all the Earthbound Immortal (except Wiraqocha Rasca was replaced with a another Aslla piscu). The entire purpose of the deck was to use Hardened Armed Dragon to summon an Immortal. That Immortal then couldn't be destroyed by card effects, which made Aslla the best one to play in theory because if your opponent got rid of it would destroy their monsters. Of course the whole deck was built around that one summon so in practice, it's still over if they out it. Sure, it was an auto-loss if your opponent played non-destruction removal like Compulsory Evacuation Device; but nothing beat watching players get red-faced and mad trying to understand why an Immortal summoned with HAD isn't destroyed when they destroy your field spell. One time I had someone get so mad and insist the Immortal was still destroyed they called a judge but then scooped and left the table before the judge could get to us. Also, shout-out to that one person who didn't understand Mirror Force doesn't negate, so if my card can't be destroyed you've wasted your trap. These are the moments that make playing gimmicky garbage worthwhile.

Actually, Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua saw competetive play outside of Fire Kings. In September 2017, Cody Larko got into the Top 8 at the Pennsylvania Regionals with his True Draco Demise Build and this card in the Side Deck. You only mentioned Fire Kings which dates back to 2014, but the fact that this card got played until late 2017 is actually incredible.

I remember there was one tournament where a gal named Joanna Foss took an Earthbound Immortals deck to it based around cards like Mausoleum, Hardened Armed Dragon, Fires of Doomsday, etc. She didn't do too well, but I thought it was a cool deck and played it myself. I abandoned it pretty quickly once I realized it's still too hard to consistently get these guys on the field and protect them, but it was still so satisfying once it DID work, and I had a 2500-3000 beater who can't be attacked and can attack directly.

Actually Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua sees play in Fire King decks. You can destroy it from your hand with Fire King Island or Fire King Avatar Yaksha/Arvata and trigger its effect. Having it in your hand turns Fire King Island to a Final Destination with no cost, and with King of the Feral Imps you can search it too.

A ton of Number cards saw play, either as staples or as cards that worked well in specific decks. In the early formats where xyz summoning was introduced, even Leviathan Dragon and vanilla Utopia saw play, so Numbers have always had a level of competitive relevance throughout the game.

I think I have, to my knowledge, the 'most competitive' combo involving an earthbound immortal that actually hits the field, note, I'm no great yugioh player, I just kinda play for the memes and try to make silly decks with a competitive lens to try and build them better than the obvious way. So the combo involves playing a small beast based deck with cards like uniflora, ayer's rock sunrise, and most importantly closed forest. You somehow get Earthbound immortal Cusillu (The Monkey) into the graveyard with closed forest on the field, then use any of your beast revival cards to bring it back out from the grave, the reason I think this is a little better than a normal field spell play is because closed forest is already a tempting spell to blow up due to how disrupting it's effect can be, thus in slower game states, more often than not if your opponent does not blow it up, that usually means that they CAN'T blow it up. Yes it's a finicky combo with some problems and that's why I only run one copy of Cusillu, it's like a glass cannon, it rarely works, but when it does it REALLY hurts.

From my experience - which, admittedly, completely lacks playing with the recent Godwin support - the most usable Earthbound is Cusillu, the monkey. It's certainly not usable in anything worth seriously taking to tournaments, but it _does_ fit really nicely into a Closed Forest deck full of generic Beast support. Uniflora makes cheating him out _extremely_ easy, and Uniflora itself is Level 1, so One for One and Kinka-byo make the combo actually pretty feasible, not to mention Kinka-byo itself is a Beast so if your opponent deals with it, it won't turn off Uniflora. Closed Forest itself is unfortunately lacking any protection that matters after MR2's end, but at least it can stun Field-reliant decks and even if it dies, there's other solid Beast bosses that Uniflora can bring back while you try to dig out your next copy. It's actually a surprisingly solid deck for when you want to spam out big Beasts like Cusillu, though it _is_ really unfortunate that Cusillu's unique effect is battle destruction negation. For itself. When it can't be attack and is a direct attacker. Smell that? That's some pure, unfiltered Konami card design. Don't breathe in too much, it'll probably poison you. Past that, Ccapac Apu, the big blobby boy, is probably the second most usable. It doesn't have a deck that it fits into quite so nicely, but The Gates of Dark World actually is pure Fiend support, and Archfiend Palabyrinth is also something to consider, as if you're building some sort of Big Fiend deck or whatever you'd put Apu in, you'll probably have more than a few Archfiends. Call of the Archfiend is basically the Uniflora equivalent for high-level Fiends and is searchable via Heiress, but is a Continuous Trap so it's pretty slow. There's no timing restriction on it, though, and since we're talking about a context where running an Earthbound isn't taking the piss, you could actually get value out of summoning Apu during your opponent's Battle Phase to effectively stop it in its tracks. Sinister Yorishiro is another card that feels like it'd be essential in that kind of deck, but it's an even slower Continuous Trap that's unsearchable and only does anything on your turn unless you're packing Arrivalrivals or something - but then again, I guess Sinister Yorishiro into Arrivals into Apu on your opponent's Battle Phase is a pretty flashy casual combo, and an Earthbound deck is pretty much all about flash anyway, so why not? Overall, though, I think I just have a weakness for Big Fiend support - it's certainly clunky and there's not really that many great high-level Fiends to make it worthwhile, but I've just always liked the Fiend type and there _are_ a lot of cool ones out there. As far as the rest go, they really only have leg room with the new support. Uru easily _is_ the best out of them all, and Cocoon of Ultra Evolution is actually a really good way to cheat it out, and if you've got a deck running that, you're probably also packing Metamorphosed Insect Queen which makes Uru a helluva lot harder to destroy and slowly gives you fuel for its effect ... but then there's the issue of what the heck to run as a Field in an Insect-based deck. Same story with all of the others - Ccarayhua at least _does_ have it going for it that it can be made into a full field nuke for any deck packing off-of-field destruction, but then it's an unsearchable brick. Aslla piscu has an easier-to-fit-in effect of popping only your _opponent's_ cards, although only face-up monster, and any time it'd leave the field without popping itself ... but, of course, you have to get it on the field without popping itself first. At least that opens up cheating it out with its effect negated, but that's still not especially worth it. Meanwhile, Chacu is a whale that's a Fish for some reason, and it can sit in Defense Position to keep your opponent from even attempting to attack while still chipping away at your opponent's LP with some alright burn, so ... that's neat. Meanwhile, Rasca doesn't exist. Which is not so neat. This was a lot more than I was expecting to type about the Earthbounds of all things. Huh.

@@kempbrown4402 calling giant ballpark a insect field is a major stretch. it _strictly speaking_ is, but the reality is that it's a normal monster field that's limited to normal insects because ... someone at konami got really nostalgic for gokibore specifically for some unknowable reason? i mean, it lets you dump non-vanillas for support effects so i suppose it was necessary that ballpark have _some_ sort of restriction or else it'd end up a janky lavalval chain effect, so it works out i guess. still doesn't change the fact that giant ballpark does less for uru than goddamn forest, tho the same goes for spider's lair, except spider's lair does _even less._ ballpark could at least in theory set up a field of tribute fodder to let you hard summon uru. and also lets you summon uru, soft or hard, without it immediately blowing up. because ballpark is actually a field spell. spider's lair is not

Earthbound immortal literally needed a field spell with the following three affects : While this cards is on the field you can tribute summon earthbound immortal monsters for one less tribute . Twice per turn this card can't be targeted/destroyed or removed from the field . You can have upto three earthbound immortal on you side of the field regardless on other card effects .

I have been waiting for this day to come!!! I played Earthbound Immortals way back when I didnt know how to make decks. Now I bring my chips and beer to enjoy my friday evening with this video. simple way to make these cards viable, summon any of them using hardened armed dragon. Hardened Armed dragons effect is that monsters tribute summoned using this monster as a tribute can not be destroyed by card effects. Making it immune to its own destruction effect if there is no field spell. Works well with obelisk to.

If you had a way to summon Aslla Piscu repeatedly and reliably it would probably be the best one since it can trigger if used for a Link Summon. But yeah, none of the monsters are any good.

Never thought Dzeef would make a video that hits home. I hate to be the "oh I play this deck and it wins guy" but I play this deck and it wins, and i think you missed out on many cards that splash amazing with immortals. Cards like Fires of Doomsday, Hardened armed dragon, March of the Monarchs, the Monarchs storm forth. Two of these cards put the immortals in a state of self protection, meaning that even if Mound of the bound leaves the field. the immortals won't be killed by their own or any effects. Making them Immortal. Yes they aren't the best Deck, i myself have won some locals and got pretty far in some regionals with them. They key is to stall your opponent with cards that limit them, while building your board with protect/negate cards. And then when the immortal can't be killed by battle or card effect it's a 3 turn kill

Hardened Armed Dragon makes Earthbound Immortals more viable. It gives them a cannot be destroyed by card effects buff that eliminates the need for a field spell and gives them protection form other card effects aside from their own.

EI based deck recipe from the tag force game, its ok for fun purpose. 1. masked dragon + giant rat > get hardened armed dragon 2. tribute using HAD, become immune to card effect even its own (no need field spell) 3. Defeat your opponent in 3 turn by direct attack. Not many ways to out them 4. Only problem was the set-up, and opponent counters by stealing or banishing them.

I am very aware that the Seal is terrible in every way and personally mentioned it just of the fact you can't get rid of it with single MST card so it gives that layer of security. I run 1 Aslla piscu in Simourgh for fun, and when I played Inzektors, I ran Uru in Inzektors because Cocoon of Ultra Evolution can pull it out of the deck and I already run Kyoutou Waterfront. That one was actually good, because it was emergency spot removal and it can direct attack for game sometimes.

@dzeeff i think they're easy to use and pretty good such as in Zombie World deck. We can just send them to GY then use the arsenal of revives that zombies have like Red-eyes Necro and Mezuki, and shouldn't Archfiend Zombie--Skull prevent their destruction effect? Banshee can protect Zombie World. The most grievous mistake of this video was not mentioning that Earthbound Immortal Chacu Challhua stops opponent Battle Phase while in Defense Position, no other card in the entire game can completely stop an opponent in their tracks in such a massively game-changing way tat would turn the Duel in your favor TBH. As far as using Uru, Lair of Darkness would be a very viable option.

There's an FTK for Super Priest but outside of that, not really. I actually run Aslla Piscu in my Fortune Lady deck but I'm on the fence about tossing it in. Too bad they didn't give Earthbound Geoglyphs the Malefic Territory treatment and let you ignore their "there can only be one" effect; I'd consider another Earthbound Immortal gimmick deck if they did that. Still wouldn't play Wiraqocha Rasca.

I think there is actually a really good defensive strategy you can use with the orca. If you have linewalker then have the ora out and get it switched to deffense position you could lock your opponent out of destroying it through battle since th orca(when in defense position) prevents your opponent from going into the battle phase. you could also have dark room of knightmare on the backrow to add extra burn damage as you use the orca's effect. couple that with field barrier(whatever the name of the card that protects field spells is) and mausaleum and you get a board that your opponent would ave to heavily invest into breaking.

To me they all look awesome, did well in a great arc of the anime and have interesting effects. Other than that they suck as an archetype, but individually they can be pretty fun and sometimes even effective. Uru and Ccapac Apu can otk with Linewalker and have good Type support, Aslla Piscu can near otk with Nightmare Archfiends and has an easy effect procc, Ccarayhua is a fast nuke with hand destruction effects and Chacu Challhua can make a unique Phase lockdown with cards like Grand Horn of Heaven, Timeater and Terminal World (very hard to pull off but even harder to break the lock). Also Wiraqocha is the most viable imo. Yes it requires a lot of resources but when you do Normal Summon it you can make the opponent Discard as much as 3 cards! That eliminates hand traps like Nibiru and is easy enough to accomplish in under 5 Summons with Floowandereeze with resources to spare. They're all pretty good imao except Cusilu. He genuinely sucks monkey cheeks...

I played Ccapac Apu, way back then, in my Crystal Beasts deck, since Rainbow Ruins was, at the time, harder to get rid of then other Field Spells, and tributing the crystal beasts just fed them into the S/T zone, where I frequently wanted them, but yeah, I'd certainly never call any deck I've constructed "competitive", so there's that. One would need a similar Field Spell, though, that is itself hard to destroy, and then still justify the cost; I did, but the deck still lost to other casual decks, so it wasn't some sort of amazing thing.

I play casually with my friends, and my friend who plays Fortune Ladies uses Ascilla Piscu for the Carly reference, but it goes have some good synergy. I play Uru with my vampires, because Vampires love their field spell to the point they have a trap that plays it from the deck. Naturally we both carry field barrier

Purely on a casual level, I remember a lot of people attempting to use Hardened Armed Dragon as a way to be able to bring out an Earthbound Immortal and not have it die by its own effect. However, the fact that this strategy never even got experimented with on a competitive level is no surprise to me. Hardened Armed Dragon does have a built-in Special Summon, but it's a -1 with a somewhat specific cost (sending a Level 8 or higher monster from your hand to the GY), and even then, you would need another monster you could Tribute, in addition to the Earthbound Immortal itself. Even if you pull that off, sure, the Earthbound Immortal can't be destroyed by card effects, even its own, plus it's unable to be targeted for attacks... but it's still vulnerable to any form of removal that isn't battle or a destruction effect, and most decks, even on a casual level, will have a number of suitable options.

A decent combo for the earthbound immortals is to use Utopia to negate their initial attack on your opponent, then use Double Or Nothing! to deal a massive amount of damage. This is best used on the golem one (not gonna even try to spell his name) by running a small spell card search engine with Mound Of The Bound Creator as the field spell, as it makes him immune to card effect destruction.

It's probably an example of the difference between theory and practice as I think they were only built with the fictional speed dueling in mind as in that format A) a field spell is always active (Speed World) and can't be destroyed and B) even if you could destroy Speed World, all other Spell cards that aren't "Speed Spells" couldn't be played so MST be benched.

There was actually a cool way to play them somewhat consistend even if not competitive with zombies. Just had to get them into your graveyard with foolish burial or lavalval chain, play zombie world and special summon them with mezuki or book of live. It wasn't even that painful to lose them because you could easily revive them.

I remember getting crushed by a guy using an Earthbound Immortal Geartown deck during a tag duel on ygopro during the early/mid xyz era. Used classic Geartown stuff, but then had the Immortal who blew everything up when he died. So he'd set a 2nd Geartown down over the active one, and get to both dark hole the field and summon a Gadjiltron Dragon. He probably had an amazing hand that made the deck seem better than it was, but it was still really cool.

I like the bird one. The Nazca Lines are cool, yo, these have good style; if I was gonna run one, I'd probably do it in a deck with a good pendulum and link summon engine, and then a field spell that protects itself, maybe some cards that buff it if I don't already have enough jank. They're really bad, though, and really easy to stop; you need to build an entire deck to support them, which isn't worth it when you get the same attack with cards that are easier to use.

Just a note, and I am sure somewhere in the comment may have mention, but was not mention in the video, Earthbound Immortal Aslla Piscu had an errata after its first printing, the original one was, destroy all monsters on your opponent's side of the field, the errata one now is, destroy all face up monster on your opponent's side of the field. ;) it is still bad archtype overall but it is just food for thought

Maybe give them a Field Spell that lets you shuffle 2 monsters you control back to the Deck to Special Summon an EI from your Deck, or GY - and if you control an EI, you can shuffle that one monster back instead of the two. Make it a Quick Effect, and add a once per turn Main Phase effect that lets you add an EI from your hand to your Deck to draw 2 cards. Third effect? While you control an EI, the Field Spell protects itself. Done.
