I've done loads of mad max jobs on gearboxes and 90% of the time things work out ok when a gear box can't be got or is a mad price you have nothing to lose that the difference in a proper mechanic and a fitter a mechanic will try and fix the problem and save people money and a fitter will bin it and fit a new one and empty your wallet well done my man

Hi Leon, a absolute pleasure to watch and follow you I'm in Cornwall I purchased a seat arosa 1.7di very cheap it transpired that diff fell apart and damaged the box casing I couldn't find the right box for to the car so ended up buying a 1.4 petrol polo box swapped the bell housings over as the starter was mounted differently in the petrol she drove very well even though the ratios were slightly out. I'm in the motorcycle trade Get your hands dirty 🤫

I remeber having to do something similar with a T4 transporter gearbox. Not as in depth as you've done in your video. The issue was that reverse was beside 5th in the old box and the replacement box reverse was beside 1st. After some faffing around, ffs's being muttered and a few bags of glue later... we figured out that all we had to do was pull a little pin for the reverse and weld it in place... also had to swap gear sticks as the old gear stick wouldn't allow for reverse to be selected as the stick had to be pushed down to select reverse. Got there in the end though

i had a similar problem on a 1990s corolla the gearbox i got the bellhousing was different. The problem with the old one was the speed-govener had stripped the plastic cog . so i ended up just swapping the speed govener and the torque converter as the old torque converter had 320.000km and the new trans 160.000 so it should outlast the engine , I was not going to swap the internals but has crossed my mind. " tip to check bell housing differences i used the spacer plate of the engine"
