I still don't know why the first thing Biden didn't do as President was sign an executive order making it a rule that everyone running for Federal office must release their tax returns for the past 10 years. I also strongly believe they should have to pass the Citizenship test we give immigrates since Republicans are always saying people born elsewhere should pass it just to live here. How about passing it if you want a government job? Also all candidates must agree to attend debates for both the primaries and the national elections. They should also show they can follow rules by not just talking over the other person. Some of these debates should have a group of fact checkers working in real time AND calling candidates out BS answers. We should see for ourselves first hand how someone who we are giving a job that could involve sending young men and women to give their life for our safety and freedoms how they react to having the things they are saying be challenged as anywhere from misleading to outright wrong when appropriate! If someone is incapable of admitting they were incorrect about a subject after some review, don't you think the public should see for themselves? If you think about these new rules to be excessive, ask youself why! We expect the same behavior from school children so claiming it would be unfair to any particular candidate says a lot about that candidate! Also, never forget these people are trying to get a high paying ($180 Thousand a year and up government job with insanely good benefits, paid by the people of the United States tax dollars! I along with most Americans go through worse just trying to rent a house.

The most important part of Sec. Pete's response to MTG's attack, besides being on Fox News, is how NOT "clap back" it was. He's able to both cut the legs out from under her argument whilst also being professional and downright pleasant to a degree that has seemingly even won over some Fox News hosts. THAT is the important part. And it's something we need more of. Sec. Pete should get a higher title in 2024--we need exactly what he's able to do.

To start with I'm going to assume you aren't pointing to some major decision made by the Department of Transportation as causing the recent supply chain issues. So your issue, correct me if I'm wrong, is that the Department hasn't resolved those issues. (If instead your "disaster" is referencing something else let me know.) Unless you are for deep government intervention/interference into business it is difficult for this Department to directly affect supply chain. This isn't an issue where some burdensome regulation is stymying the flow of products. The problems we see currently are the result of a massive external crisis in the form of the initial pandemic crossed exacerbated by efficiency efforts within companies' processes over the past, say, 20 years at least. I could get way over my head and above my pay grade trying to hypothesize in detail for any given company, but generally speaking there have been efforts for decades to move towards "lean" production where to save money you don't over purchase/stockpile goods and only bring in what you need for the immediate future. This has worked great to minimize cost but as of the pandemic and key sources grinding to a halt it caused cascading shortages at each step in every manufacturing process. The result of which is still echoing today. I'm not sure what lever Dept. of Transportation could pull to resolve that short of just riding it out until each step in the process has their production back up and running. But I am sure at least that the Dept. didn't pull some (metaphorical) lever which either caused or made worse our current situation. I mean this honestly, not as an attack, but if you have thoughts on something Dept. of Transportation has messed up I'd love to hear what that may be.

@@oneopinion6806 I’m a supply chain manager, so I understand the above, and agree! Lean as a global principle had the world on a knife’s edge. Dept of Transport not responsible for that. What I’m referring specifically to is the airline chaos, which they do have the ability to sort. Mass cancellations at the last minute have become the norm, and then the airlines offer credit but mostly they’re blaming weather to avoid any accomodation or meals you’re owed for being stuck last minute! It’s a meltdown, they are filling their seats and lining their pockets - that’s where the Dept of Transport should be stepping in but nothing has changed. So I see that as a bit of a disaster. But what are the good things he’s done? This isn’t an attack fyi, genuinely interested what mayor Pete has accomplished in his role as I may be getting biased sources.

@@bmac3452 I suppose the FAA could go harder after airline companies for not handling their staffing issues to an extent necessary to avoid flight cancellations. There might be additional reasons for airline issues, but that particular one seems to not be unique as there are staffing issues in many industries right now. Frankly my advocacy of Sec. Pete isn't based on some Dept. of Transportation win. Top leadership in any entity has less to do with the successes and failures than they do setting tone and in politics relating to constituents. Listen, I loved Obama. But I don't think, even for as smart as he seemed to be, that he generated policy himself. But he was able to take it in and relate it back out to the masses. I like Sec. Pete because of the tone he sets, his not being crypt keeper old, and what seems to be an intellectual focus. My initial comment is to the heart of this--the fact that he can go on Fox News and not get into petty arguments and actually seems to be reaching across the political divide. That's what top level politics needs.

I saw a Progressive KZbin channel video about a year ago where the host explained that the stalemate and ultra partisanship we see in the Congress today began in 1994 when Newt Gingrich became the Speaker. Prior to 1994, we saw a lot more compromise between the parties in the Congress, especially if the President was from the opposite party as the 1 that controlled the Congress. But once Gingrich became Speaker, as he himself once admitted, his primary goal was to prevent Clinton from passing anything to hurt his chances of getting reelected and led a bunch of (mostly non serious) investigations into Clinton and other high ranking Democrats. And whenever the President is from 1 political party but the Congress is controlled by the other we have seen this happen with all 5 Presidents since 1994.

Didn't newt get divorced more than once, a thing Jesus explicitly said you weren't ever allowed to do? Like, one of his very few rules that weren't 'be nice to everyone', it was 'you work out boning with one person and make it work for life, or just be celibate', divorce is not allowed in more fundamentalist churches to this day (IIRC it's not a huge deal to get divorced if Jewish, it was very much Jesus we get to thank for that).
