Good information until the end. Boy, loving someone "just the way they are" and "blessing" COUPLES in same-sex "unions" or second marriages, etc. is not what the Catholic Church should be doing. We should be repenting from sin, not condoning it. FS clearly says blessing couples. We can certainly ask for a blessing to help us avoid a particular sin, but never to approve of it. I It is only causing spiritual harm to people in these types of sinful relationships. We all need to be called to virtue.

I think a lot of same sex attraction comes from early sexual experiences. A lot of victims of child molestation spend a lifetime battling the effects of that experience.

Might be true for females but for males this interpretation mixes effect with cause. The SSA comes first, nascent during the first decade of life but then manifesting in unconscious social cues put out by the inexperienced boy or adolescent. Older domineering gay man pick on by those signals which attracts him into the younger boy / adolescent, as predator honing into victim. PS. This is not to say that molestation does not occur to boys with no prior SSA who then go onto engage in homosexual behaviours. However this does not introduce SSA into their psyche as in such cases the mentality is not SSA but a trauma coping mechanism to rationalise their experience and the shame that goes with it as normality or what they deserve in the hope it will rationalise the experience and relieve the trauma you mention. This is similar to how many prostitutes report being molested as girls and the shame and guilt block them from a healthy sexual expression.

I personally know young man . At age 5 loved pink sparkly things. Loved to dance. By some. He was born gay. When left to play out. No added attention to issue. One way or the other. He now. All boy! Football. Nothing to indicate gay. Although he wanted to be a cheer leader at 5 yr. He now star football player. His natural dancing abilities. Added to his performance as football player. I shudder to think what he may be going thru . If his parents bought into the woke agenda. I also had sister. Who never showed any signs of being gay her entire life. Up until. Her husband left her.. sympathetic caring gay folks embraced her. She was only looking for someplace to belong and friendship. She at 31 said she was gay. In my opinion she was vulnerable and just looking to belong somewhere. The gay friends were kind, caring. I believe at this point we of faith must pray. The woke agenda. This only views "gayness" as only sexual acts as a chosen "lifestyle" like choosing to be vegan. So when exactly did you decide to choose the hetero lifestyle? Exactly my life. I pray for my sons 21 and 24 who were more with their dad and his family. They practice nothing. Unfortunately he fell over with a sudden heart attack at age 57 three years ago. I keep praying for conversion for my sons. My 21 lives at home and I make him go to church that's my rules to live with me. Older son had lived with father since 16. He does not practice. He is closer to his family because of family buisness and money. I just keep praying. IT is so disheartening.

They find 5 spots on the genome that were associated with sexual orientation. I agree it’s very solid work. The authors followed over 400 thousand people from across the world for their sample. That’s quite remarkable.

I wonder about some of these "studies" . I'm 68 years old and I studied psychology many years ago. After I got my degree, I decided that I thought it was not for me. Just a bunch of men preaching their own opinions on the world. As far as "studies", I had to do those and they can be modified to reach your goal. I don't disagree with everything Rev Sullins is saying but, there is a clear old fashioned tilt to it and male perspective. To come to the conclusion that Mom's are over bearing because they only heard from women is a bit slanted. I would like to know the percentage of men that they do hear from. Many men, not as much now, but a lot of men think that children are the "women's" job and therefore would not reach out on this subject. Maybe the father is disconnected and living in his own world and therefore that is why they only hear from women. Maybe the father just isn't seeing the problem or doesn't know how to deal with it. But, to come to the conclusion that they only hear from woman because they must be overbearing is just not scientific. I wonder if we will ever know the clear answer to this question. I do know that God is the healer and Divine Physician.

I'm gay and married with two kids. I'm generally happy. My biggest worry in the last few years was the attempt to make our marriage not legal. Because I was not a citizen then, not being married would mean being split by an ocean from my husband and step children. I'm fortunate enough to live in Maine which is very accepting, but a week ago we still had a man glaring at us the entire time we ate in a restaurant This election I feel I have no choice but to vote for Biden because the alternative is such a risk to our ability to live together as a family. Both my husband and me have family members who won't talk to us because we are gay and other family members who don't understand that our family members hate us. These are the reasons we are more troubled than straight people. It's the constant demonization, lying about us and trying to remove our basic freedoms

Just my observation as a teacher of lower grades for 45 years. Some mothers are indeed overbearing to sons, helicopter moms, tiger moms… But don’t underestimate the role of absent, disinterested, or abusive fathers. It’s just as harmful and many boys don’t receive male affirmation in time to form a proper bond. Same for girls. I’ve had a number of children, that I could already tell had same sex tendencies at ages five and six.

We already have all the evidence we need after living with, interacting with and studying gay people for decades. They are who they are, no straight man is choosing to be gay, thats just plain stupid. You also leave out how gayness is exhibited in animals, which makes it appear to be part of nature. It's also incredibly rich for catholics to be discussing the issues around being gay when it was the Catholic church who was responsible for the largest sexual attack on boys ever commited by any group or organization. The Catholic church has no place having this discussion and they should keep their mouth shut on this subject.

Science will never know how Original Sin affects us. We will never know if people are born with homosexual tendencies or not, but I think it's entirely possible. Original Sin can produce all manner of psychological, emotional and mental birth-defects that have the potential to result in sinful behaviour - homosexuality could be one of them.

I’m glad you’re speaking boldly about this. I occasionally work with clients who are confused about emotional/sexual feelings. I found long ago that when I talk facts, biology, it goes nowhere. When I added elements of hypnosis to my therapy I began to move into the subconscious where I could fish around in their past memories that are emotion-derived. Soon every one who had sexual issues realized it was about disordered perspectives on a very real need for love. Seeing a choice between agape love and animal lust proved liberating. Soon the “attraction “ vaporized as they chose to meet their needs via real love, touch, forgiveness, unconditional giving and gratitude. The pattern designed by God filled their need. The need for superficial, faux, pretend love ceased to fill the need. Self confidence, happiness, etc blossomed.

Can I ask you if those clients actually found said love with their spouses? Were they abused by men? People who go to therapy for their sexual afflictions tend to usually be troubled. This is a selection bias. This is like saying a hospital is the deadliest place for a person cause so many people pass away in a hospital.

Ordinariate priests, ukrainian catholic priests, byzantine, coptic, including other eastern rites CAN get married before ordination. Pretty common. Only Roman catholic priests can't, and that's a practice not doctrine

Yes. He was an Episcopalian priest, and they are allowed to get married. When he converted to Catholicism the Church let him keep his wife. Haha. Seriously the church allows this whenever an Episcopalian priest chooses to convert.

WHEN the priest married, the first born son got all the land upon the death of his father, the priest, and the Church needed and wanted land. THE Church has a lot of land. Historically it had even more land. I had an Italian Catholic friend who when she discovered that in her fifties or maybe 60s, she said I think I'm going to leave the faith because I did not know it was all about the land. I thought that was sort of silly cuz the faith is more than that. BUT YES, that was a very important thing for the Church and they couldn't do that if they continued to allow the priest to marry and have children. It's not doctrine but it is practice-- that they should not have a wife & they should not marry. THAT said, the Anglicans which is basically Catholicism have a wife; as do Greek Orthodox etc. So anyway I recommend you research that & it won't be hard to find . You can Google it nowadays and within minutes you can find out that for many many decades if not centuries priesthood married and they had children. The Roman Catholic Church does not want to deny a man who has a wife from a vocation of ministry. They are few in number but they are allowed to join the church. Apparently I wasn't sure until I read just now that-- the orthodoxy did marry. Greek Orthodox often say they proceeded Roman Catholicism and I decided to give up on that fight because there doesn't seem to be any definitive proof either way. So you MUST do your historical analysis if you're going to make the statement that you have made. I understand that you're deeply moved by this but you need to inform your brain that will inform your heart and then your heart makes the decision. It's that simple

I think we should have studies on birth control and being gay. Especially the men. I know of Doctors that prescribe the pill when moms are nursing. That estrogen is running all through her body and into the milk.

The evidence suggests that the more boys a woman has, the more likely the later ones in birth order are to be gay, because of an accumulation of testosterone, not estrogen.

@@marciaguerrero3663 Therapy's function is to help the individual/couple/family come to their own conclusions about what is best for them. It is not to put the therapists ideology onto them. This is dangerous as we can see right now with the transgender ideology and "affirmative" care. This is the same thing. If an adult chooses conversation therapy then that's fine but leave children alone. All this over sexualizing children on both sides is cringe.

I don't care what "research" is done, because i know you cannot choose your sexual orientation. Does anyone choose to be Heterosexual ? of course not. I believe God gives us our sexual orientation. The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. . This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. Yes you can. I chose to be heterosexual after experimenting with bisexuality for a decade. It's a total lie that you can't choose or cultivate your sexuality. The younger generation doesn't even believe they are born gay like the older generations, they completely acknowledge it's something you pick up and drop whenever you want. The born this way myth has died in gay circles around 2015. Now the dominant theory is heteronormativity, that people are by default born bisexual and that they are conditioned by society to become straight. Homosexuals and bisexuals, under this theory, are willingly rebelling against heteronormativity. This rhetoric has become very popular with the more militant wing of the rainbow coalition, who view their sexuality as an act of rebellion.

Even Pope Francis acknowledged when speaking 5 years ago to young man: "this the way God had made you". Most experts agree that the issue is "biologjcal". Almost ALL scientists agree with the Pope. Still, in NO WAY it changes Church's teaching about chastity. Common sense would tell you that just like painters, poets and others have a genetic predisposition. No point of screaming here. Having said that we still encourage those folks to live in chastity. That has stood steady.. I used to work in a chemical industry in a small factory as batchmaker and witness for a long time a group of people who were gays who work on seperate project. One guy came with his mother who oversaw their work. I interreacted with them on factory level with each one of them. Looking at the mother of one of these guys and the WAY they interreacted among themselves, any doubt about inherited aspect - had totally DISAPPEARED. I' m well read plus have my post-grad education. The issue is really going to "earth is flat". Or that the "cats are carriers of evil spirits" ( in 1227 - Murderous Pope Gregory 9th) The cats were subsequently haunted down causing an explosion of RATS which spread through FLIES - a BUBONIC PLAGUE wiping out almost half populations in some countries in Europe. We are in the same MAD- DOG brutality & mentality. So, we need to help gays and integrate them to main body of believers while telling them clearly with support of SCIENTIFIC research that intimate contacts are inherently causing unique set of diseases and cause unhealthy, distorted view of " outside" world. It takes courage and imaginative approach to interreact with them and still accept as person's on this planet as Jesus would accept them.( while probably counseling them). Thanks for reading. It's NOT genetic, but it could potentially be EPIGENETIC if estrogen-like chemicals were in the mother's wombs or early childhood. Science shows that it's NURTURE over NATURE for the most part, and chemicals of course can influence our mental health. Its not genetic though.
