This dog needs a more experienced dog owner. The owner needs a trainer and a behaviorist. The owner means well, you can tell she is a sweet lady, but she got a dog who needs somebody who understands him. I really hope they can make it work, but with a baby in the house and a weak leader it is scary.
@Lorenejonesbaby992 жыл бұрын
Just one more tid bit of advice to give the owner...do not play with or let the dog play with her hand with his mouth. I noticed she let him mouth her hand and pet his face while he did it. He needs to learn not to be mouthy(nibbble) and she needs to learn to not allow that. Great job helping her and the dog. I do think with there being a child in her home and she is not experienced with his behavioral issues, she needs professional dog/human behavioral help or re-home to someone with experience.

Mom get some training. It’s your energy transferring to the dog. I will always believe in my experience any dog with Chow is unpredictable. Dede gave great advise on not leaving him with kids. You need to become the ‘chill’ leader for him to follow

The owner was a disaster!!! I'm very fearful for the safety of her baby, and how can she laugh off the fact that the dog has already snapped at the next door neighbour's child??? This dog needs reassurance he won't be mistreated again this owner isn't capable of that. I think she HAS TO HAVE A RETHINK! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Also said dog snapped when food fell on floor, is food agressive, shouldn't be under table. Its Very hard, lots patience to untrain food aggression. Starts with when is puppy, & u need to put your hand in the food while are eating, goes for cats too. U make them sit , & wait , put food down , then give command.

....prepare his food in his bowl and show it to him. Then get someone who he's growled at to take the bowl and feed him one morsel at a time until the food is finished, then put the empty bowl down for him to inspect for a minute then remove. This has to be repeated several times and for several days, perhaps weeks, by each person he has challenged over food, including children under adult supervision. Gradually allow him to eat small amounts from his bowl, between hand feeding. Then progress to putting the bowl on the floor for him to take a morsel, but without lettkng go of the bowl, then resume hand feeding and repeat the process until you can put the bowl down, let it go and pick it up again without growling or snapping...if he does, be stern, tell him "NO!" remove the food completely if you can and don't feed him any more until he is due his next meal, then start from scratch. The idea is for him to understand that he is neither in control of the food or his bowl and once that is understood, he should drop the resource guarding. Reinforce this with his toys. If he refuses to give you a toy, remove it and put it in a place where he can see it, but not reach it and try again a few hours later and repeat until he gets it right. It can feel very laborious, but if you stick with it y'all will be happy people with a dog who is more secure in knowing his place in the clan. Make sure any kids who are around are part of the process too. Clicker training might be a useful addition to reinforce good behaviour.

What worries me even more is she wanted him groomed so she could immediately be able to sleep with the dog in her bed. Which mind you I do not work with rescue dogs but I do know you have to slowly start letting the dog get used to not only you but also your family ie children. This is were mistakes are made and not only the dog pays the ultimate price but the injured party does as well.

What a chaotic situation. Clearly this lady does not know how to handle an aggressive dog. With conditioning he would be ok with a groomer. I can’t stress how much he needs a confident trainer. He is beyond stressed. Until he is more receptive to a groomer he needs meds to calm him down. He’s forgotten what is was like to be a dog, a pet! He’s probably had to defend himself if he was on the streets. He needs obedience training immediately. That will help them to bond. I hope for both of them they get the help they need.

I have tons of stories because I have rescued dogs from the Metro Detroit area. Some were dumped, some were just lost, and some just born on the streets. The owners who lost their dogs were helped to secure yards , and made a dog area that was comfortable for the dog. Vet care was also done. The others were worked with, meet and greets, home evaluations. To this day I receive pictures and messages. Unfortunately, life happened and things changed. At this time I can not help these poor voiceless animals. One day I will again, but for now I will love my dogs, as they are what makes each day brighter. Dealing with Dementia, and having my home opened to 2 family members that need 24 hr. care, and are afraid of dogs can really put a wrench in things. But, by the grace of God and my dogs, I am holding up strong. May God keep you safe Dede as you help the voiceless, and their owners, build a bond that betters their lives.

@CBOwner19992 жыл бұрын
Anyone saying “owner needs training” needs to realize that a shelter adopted this dog out, without going thru all of the safety points! This is the problem with adoption today…the shelters care more about “saving a dogs life” than they are about the home they’re sending them into! The “groomer” being as frantic as she is, is of NO help to calm this poor pup! Groomer needs training more than the owner!
@cherylhall1738 Жыл бұрын
He needs a new home without children. Whatever he has been through it makes him a danger. It is not his fault but we must put human children first. Re-homing is the kindest solution because if he bites a child he will be put down.

This is hard when there are little children around. This owner needs to RE-DO training for aggressive dog. Casey is smart, he's a big boy and there's a back history noone knows like you said. But with the right training, he would THRIVE and be happier. The owner she needs to kid rid of the kid gloves and get those muscles and give Casey the grip she had on him on the floor. If she's affraid or doesn't know then get into a class with Casey that teaches them together. ❤️🐾

I had a dog that was like this one. He could be as sweet as sugar one second and the next he’d just growl and snarl. I didn’t like that behavior so, when he got that way, He got a harsh correction with the leash and a strong, loud, NO. He turned into a pretty good dog that we had until he was 16 years old.
