Honestly, Saitama never gets enough credit from the fans of how heroic he truly is, he rivals Mumen Rider in terms of his sense of heroism, but only fails to show it because of his overwhelming feeling of emptiness because he is too strong.

He clearly state he never wants to be a hero, but he owes the people one, and I hope we get to see him become stronger in the later story. I like Saitama’s character, he’d set a goal for himself, reached that goal, but realizes that he has to find a purpose with his newfound power. I look at every interaction a character has with Saitama as what their ideology was before meeting Saitama and what it is after. Saitama changed the individuals he encountered because in their eyes he is the pinnacle of strength, the finish line in a race. They so desperately wanted to know how he reached said finish line, so they can implement it into their own philosophy, in turn reaching their own finish lines. Each character threw away what they believed in and adopted a new perspective just from encountering Saitama. He is the catalyst that drives one punch man. Garou is another favorite character of mine because of his ideologies and how it conflicts with the world’s. I agree with what Nux Taku said in this video, every comedic scene has a double meaning with a darker twist and that has given me a different outlook on one punch man, I look forward to the interaction between Garou and Saitama and just how Saitama’s character can develop in the future.

saying that saitamas backstory isn't tragic isn't really true. i mean the dude is poor, we don't know exactly how poor he is or was, but his obsession with bargain sales and his reaction to being offered food indicates that he has been very poor for a very long time and being poor and unable to do anything about it is tragic. dude didn't train doing only pushups, sit-ups, squats and the ten kilometre run because he thought that shit would make him super powerful, he did those things because they require no equipment. the one banana for breakfast wasn't some sort of willpower thing, he was eating just one banana for breakfast because that's all he could afford. not using the AC was him saving money too. even if saitama seems reasonably well off now, all that saving bahavior indicates that he probably grew up as the poor kid who had nothing.

The overarching theme of OPM is that even though you have so many people running around with superpowers, there are very few ACTUAL heroes in Saitama's world. Like, you could count them on one hand. Bang alludes to this in the early parts of the Manga when he is content to let Saitama be chastized by the mob even though he saved the city, remarking that real heroes are vastly unappreciated and that it's better in the long run for him to not make an attempt at such a crooked enterprise. His moral clash with the society, and in every major battle in the series, from Garou to Genos to Fubuki and etc... has to do with the fact that his version of what a hero is and everyone else's version seem to be totally different. The narrative revolves around the fact that Saitama is virtually immune to peer pressure, so he just ends up doing what he thinks is good or right, sometimes to hilarious effect, like in his clashes with the ninja village(remember, it's not stealing if he attacked you first). Being a hero is supposed to be about duty and sacrifice, not fame and popularity.

Whilst I love your thoughts on depression I'm not sure I entirely agree. Sometimes I feel that society's obsession with chasing dreams, leading to the idea that it is you who hasn't worked hard enough if you don't achieve them is one of the major causes of depression in society. We are taught to want, want, want and strive for some far star rather than just being content and appreciating what we already have.
@phantom-ri2tg2 жыл бұрын
Really old comment but depression has many forms and causes. Many people really do have the issue where they get in a slump of just not trying without having big dreams.

I don't know if you are being ignorant/you don't know how it works or you are just meming. It works as it should work, views are calculated after a certain amount of time has passed in said video, e.g after watching for 20 minutes it calculates a view, people comment and like before getting to that point, thus the difference between views, likes and comments. You just commented before watchin it too, I hate it how people meme it/are just ignorant and don't know shit about how it should work.

Saddest part is before Saitama became so powerful he was able to stare down a crab monster who'd just killed people without fear because he was already dead inside because of his everyday, normal life. Then he found something he could enjoy and became a hero. THEN he gets too strong so that even his new fun thing becomes mundane and boring. Poor guy thought he found a way out of his depression with his new hobby, only to fall into it again.

Nux Taku: Makes 45 minutes video about OPM Also Nux Taku: OPM is my second most favorite anime of all time
@nixdskilly47864 жыл бұрын
Wow... this was a real IN DEPTH of the other story of OPM... and tbh, it really hit close to heart... have never thought about why OPM was so good and why I liked it so much... but it actually felt like this video just put into words why OPM is such a deep series even though in the surface it's just a comedy parody gag with tints of good action. I remember watching one episode where this hidden theme reared in the surface was when he was shunned after destroying the asteroid and put Saitama in the spotlight of the public as a hero but he didn't even waver or care because that's part of his ideals. Great video! And thank you very much for this, Nux :)

We evolve as a person with each and every passing second. The human spirit is something wonderful that can develop in so many different ways we can never really master everything. We can all improve and that shows that we can all excel. That’s to me what opm shows, an insight into the very idea of a goal and what it means to either achieve it, move towards it or move beyond it.
