I mix raw honey with a bit og warm water, give my scalp a good massage in dry hair, wait for 10 min and the rinse it. When the hair is dry I brush it. It has worked perfectly for me, instead of shampoos. I do this once a week, I have long blond/grayish hair. If you are used to wash your hair every day, it can take a while for your hair to stabilize.

I'm so glad you went raw honey. I was hesitant to use the soda/ACV method due to the ph of those ingredients and have read many accounts of the damage long term. So while I was looking for an alternative I went water only but needed something for dandruff and did raw honey. In the end I never did baking soda. Now I use honey once month (if I need it). I enjoy watching your updates to see how others find the honey method.

The tangle teezer works so well due to the length of the bristle. As it is shorter it less likely to get caught in hair. Yes science! It's been proven with iPod earphones too, that's why those damn buggers keep getting tangled no matter how neatly I roll them.

Amazing! I'm glad it's working out great for you! :) I only wash my hair now when it feels greasy, I can surpass 8 days now with some water rinses here and there. This no poo method is less maintenance and I love it! so it's great hearing stories like yours! :) thank you!

Good information...but just one comment, though, and I mean this constructively: please be straight to the point. When I watch your videos to get information, I find myself skipping some parts because some things aren't really important, or is slightly off topic. I understand that you are trying to connect with your viewers, but it would be nice if you can stick to your topic and probably have a separate video for other stuff. :) Otherwise, awesome job in sharing your experiences. I love the useful information you share. Best of luck and more power!

This grey dust on your brush is actually sebum and dead skin flaking. This happens when you go nopoo because you no longer use shampoo to get rid of them so this brush or a boar bristle brush are very important to use while you're on nopoo.

Welcome back from your vacation!!! I'm glad you're actively trying new things and you're not giving up. I would love to see you try some heatless hair styles! My current favorite is the headband curls, you can check the few tutorials that are here but your hair is beautiful and I'm sure they'd look great on you! Plus if you use a lot of heat it could save you from damaging your hair as well (: Best of luck on your journey!!

***** I tried the baking soda and acv rinse a handful of times, each time spanning a few months, it works for awhile then makes my hair SUPER tangly! Even after months of working with the formula. I have now switched to Yes to Carrots shampoo/conditioner and I like them a lot. But the raw honey shampoo had always interested me, I think I may try that soon!! Thanks for the reply (:

No problem! :) best of luck to you as well! If the raw honey doesn't work for you, you should look into natural shampoo bars. I actually plan on trying it for travel since it'll be easier to pack than a jar of honey haha.

Chagrin Valley is the best for shampoo bars! I tried them about a year ago, the one for brunette hair smells insanely good. Like spice! You should give them a shot (: They also have skincare and other goodies, everything is handmade. I remember my hair actually being pretty manageable with them.

I'm really glad to have found you because I really want to go no-poo but I heard that if you wash your hair with the baking soda method and the water in your region is not that good (like it is very salty or has many metals or acids) it could damage your hair. I didn't knew there was other methods too and the honey one looks like the best for me. I was kind of exeptical but with your review I will definitely will star my treatment and go no-poo :3

Hi ShindyMoon not sure if you have seen my most recent video but I am using Apple cider vinegar rinse after my honey method now! but I use the spray method which makes the smell less strong! Hi ***** I was interested in no poo because I have a dry ichy scalp, and I was wondering if the raw honey method stopped your itch, I think I want to try this, hopefully it will also cut the oil down too. I have been only using dr bronners unscented soap for the past 3 to 4 months. it makes my scalp less ichy, but it didn't cure it. So i guess i was doing the no poo without even realizing it!

the grey dust particles are extra sebum! when you use a boar bristle brush which redistributes the extra oils in your hair down the shaft, the brush will eventually get very "dusty" & you can search how to wash it, I've seen multiple methods:) and also, I used to do the apple cider vinegar /baking soda method, then the water only method and I'm going to give this a shot tonight! and one last question, how long does this keep? I've heard that raw honey starts to ferment and you can't keep it too long. Thank you!
@sarahhtran

laurenelise98 Hi! I make enough for just one wash. So because I have long hair I double the recipe and use all of that for one wash. However, this video is old! I have an updated one with a new method where I alternate between honey method and natural shampoo bars. If you wash your hair more than once a week I would say you can make a larger batch and refrigerate it but i can't imagine it keeping for too long (max. one week in the fridge)

Hi Neil! thank you so much for your kind comment!! It's so funny because while I am filming I can't tell what has changed! means a lot! I've heard great things about shampoo soap bars! I am actually looking into trying that out soon for travel since carrying around a jar of raw honey isn't ideal or efficient! I absolutely love the raw honey however I am starting to notice a bit of build up in my roots! But it took a while to build up. Shampoo bars are also healthy for your hair anyways because they use REAL soap so I believe you're good but if you are searching for a 100% simple natural route there are SOO many different recipes people are experimenting with (oatmeal, raw honey, raw honey & aloe, water only, rice flour, the list is honestly endless!) there is a Facebook forum I joined just to see what everyone is experimenting with check it out here if you're interested! everyone in this community is so helpful! facebook.com/groups/nopoo/

With no poo there's a detox period.. like you I've been having this grey/white powder-looking substance left on my combs and brushes. :( From what I know this is actually accumulated wax (and other ingredients from conventional hair products) that build up in your scalp. These waxes make your hair appear shiny and healthy, but underneath your hair can be very dry and damaged. When you go no poo, your scalp begins to release all of this wax & other junk!! :) Leaving you with a clear scalp (eventually). I've heard that it can take months for your scalp to release the waxes and buildup.
@sarahhtran
@sarahhtran 10 жыл бұрын

@AriyneC
@AriyneC 10 жыл бұрын
I am on my 6th week of using the raw honey method. For anyone that has flat, straight & thin hair I would recommend this method. My hair has never had this much volume! I've also noticed that my hair tangles sooo much less. I actually let the honey/water mixture sit in my hair for around 10 or 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water which I think has made my hair very soft & manageable. But I REALLY need squeeze bottles. Right now I'm just using a water bottle to dump the mixture onto my hair, so maybe it's not cleansing my scalp very much. Thanks soo much for your no poo updates!! :)

Hi Sarah! If I might ask, it sounds like you do the once wash once a week or so, with some dry shampoo in between? If that's the case, what do you do the other days? Put your hair up (without washing) during the shower, or do you do some sort of water-only wash?
@sarahhtran

Hi Dana! I actually haven't used my natural dry shampoo mixture in a while! I used that mixture more when I first started no-poo and was going through a transition phase. Now my hair doesn't get greasy until the end of the week so I don't even use it. During the week I do water only washes though since I do work out 5-6 days a week and I just want to rid of the sweat in my roots. Hope this helps! :)

I have been considering the no poo method lately and I also have very bad dandruff, I was wondering if you still used the tea tree oil with the honey only method. Also styling products like gel, spray, mousse, etc... I have straight hair but I like to curl it sometimes with no heat curlers. I use a little gel before and spray after. Any suggestions?
@sarahhtran
@sarahhtran 10 жыл бұрын
I have been using Raw Honey with one to two tiny drops of tea tree oil and I follow up with Apple Cider Vinegar rinse. In this video I said I don't use Apple Cider Vinegar rinse anymore, however I am now back to using it but not for every wash. I use the Apple Cider Vinegar rinse once every 3-4 washes so approx once a month? I still have dandruff but it definitely isn't AS bad as it used to be. I am still on the hunt to figure out how to completely get rid of it. I heard it could also be due to diet? But I don't plan on changing that just yet lol! I just ordered natural shampoo bars geared towards dandruff from a brand called "Chagrin Valley" since I am going on a backpacking trip soon and don't want to carry about a jar of honey and apple cider vinegar lol! maybe you can also try that. I don't use any styling products anymore. I gave my mom all of my hairsprays and my hair actually holds curls better since I have been no poo (My hair used to be so stubborn). You can make your own natural hairspray which is just a mixture of water and sugar! I would use a natural sugar like cane sugar or maybe coconut sugar? melt it down in water and put it in a spray bottle! the more sugar you use the stronger the hold. Easy to rinse out in warm water and no damaging chemicals :)

Probably because you cleanse your hair to often. The more often you wash your hair, the more the oil glands are stimulated. And if you're using regular shampoo, that also exacerbates it.

Hi, so is the honey wash sebum removing? In the Facebook forum it says that the aloe/honey wash is not sebum removing, so I'm just wandering what is best if you want to clean your hair but don't want to use BS :)
@sarahhtran
@sarahhtran 10 жыл бұрын
The honey wash definitely isn't. I just use a boar bristle brush to break up the sebum and do hair washes with warm water not hot. Also for a natural way to reduce sebum without BS is lemon juice in a cup of water OR 1/4 cup of vinegar with 2 cups of water apply onto scalp and rinse & wash. You can find more natural clarifying low-poos or shampoo bars. I plan to try shampoo bars next since they are made with all natural oils and seem to have a lot of good reviews (Chagrins Valley Soap) You only really need to do a clarifying wash once a month. It's all in personal preference.

Hello, just found your video and started trying the honey method. I've been using BS+ACV for about 6-ish months, and I saw your other video when you talked about switching. I've read that people have had failures using BS because it ruins their hair, and I think the reason for that is because they're not mixing it right. You have to using BOILING water when you mix it in with the BS, and the mixture has to fizz and bubble up as you're mixing it together (2 tsp BS, 1 cup of boiling water). If you're just using room temperature water, the mixture wont fizz, thus causing your scalp to itch because the BS isn't fully dissolved. Just wanted to share that info if anyone is still doing BS+ACV. Anyway, I decided to switch over to honey now and my hair does feel a bit heavy/waxy at the roots or close to it. I've done 2 washes already. Did you experience this and did it go away? I also have a bit of dandruff and wanted to know how long did it take for your dandruff to disappear using honey. Thanks much!
@sarahhtran
@sarahhtran 10 жыл бұрын
Hi daydreameeer ! That was very informative! Thank you! I don't know if I'll ever do the BS+ACV anymore, I try to avoid using the ACV as much as possible. I tend to smell it off of my scalp while I'm sweating and working out lol. I did experience that waxy heavy feeling, I just used a boar bristle brush and used water rinses on no wash days after my workouts and used my fingers to loosen up the build up. My lastttttt resort which I usually end up doing once every 4-5 washes is the ACV. I just mix it with some water apply to the roots and use my fingers to massage the build up out. The honey method hasn't completely gotten rid of my dandruff. It has calmed down the itchy factor. My scalp used to be itchy everyday, but not anymore. I still have light dandruff here and there but it might be because of the cold weather. I'll definitely shoot a video when that day comes when I have zero dandruff. For now, I am still rather pleased with how much better it's gotten from the natural methods. I no longer am paranoid of the possibility of a flakes on my hair. I usually know when there will be one and that's if my scalp is itchy (which like I said before isn't often anymore)/
@daydreameeer
@daydreameeer 10 жыл бұрын
***** I'm glad to hear it's working out for you so far. After a few tries with using honey, I had to stop. It actually caused more dandruff than before and left my scalp feeling itchy every day. I think I'm topically allergic to honey. =( I've gone back to using the BS method, but I've decided to use 1 tbsp + 1 cup of boiling water, instead of using 2 tbsp. One tip I've read regarding using ACV as a rinse is that you should also mix it with 1 cup of boiling water + 2 tbsp of ACV. This mix will dilute the vinegar a lot more. Also, if you add a few drops of essential oils into your mixture, you can't smell the vinegar at all. And lastly, try and only spray the ACV mixture on your hair, and not on the scalp. I've learned that these methods reduce the smell of vinegar by a significant amount. I used to smell ACV on me too..but now i don't anymore. If you ever give it a try, let me know how it works out for you. Good luck!

Thank you so much! :) Sorry the honey method didn't work out for you! :( There are so many other methods to experiment with so keep doing some research if the BS+ACV doesn't do much for you! Slightly, it didn't last long though. When I first switched over my roots felt waxy, and thick. I just kept using my boar bristle brush and then I believe my 2nd or 3rd wash was when it stopped. Now that I use squeeze bottles it's easier for me to aim right at my scalp and massage into it so not sure if that also plays a factor or not. Keep at it though! and definitely be patient! :) If all else fails you should look into all natural shampoo bars they are no-poo as well.

if you want to do the honey wash then just go straight into the honey wash. Some methods work better than others for different people so you have to experiment. I tried the baking soda for about 4-5 months and it wasn't working for what I needed it to do. So I switched to honey and the honey is more moisturizing for my scalp. If you are doing the baking soda method then you definitely need the vinegar rinse to balance the pH levels. If you are doing the honey wash then you can go without the vinegar. In between my hair washes I always just do a water rinse when I go to the gym. Hope this helps! :)

@sarahhtran
@sarahhtran 10 жыл бұрын
try to go without wash for as long as possible. Your hair will slowly adjust. No-poo method takes patience and some experimenting. When I first started I tried to go without wash for as long as I could possibly go. First it was once every 3 days then I kept pushing it another day and another day. Just try to do water rinses to hold off on you washing your hair. My hair can go 8 days without wash now. I could probably go longer but I just wash it to "feel clean". Another thing you can do is try my DIY natural dry shampoo to hold you off on washes in the beginning of your no poo journey. The video is on my channel. I dont even need the natural dry shampoo anymore. I used it more for my transition phase in the beginning. If you find that the honey isn't working for you in the first 4-6 months then try something new! like I said it's all about experimenting and what works for your hair and scalp.

Hi! Yes it is natural, unpasturized honey! The consistency is more thick than regular store bought honey and the colour of it is more of a pale golden yellow rather than a brownish - orange colour. There are a lot of other methods as well if this one doesn't work out for you! :) Here is a facebook forum I am a part of where a bunch of other no-poo-ers share their different methods and ask questions! facebook.com/groups/nopoo/

For the raw honey I am not sure. I started with baking soda and apple cider vinegar and that transition phase lasted about 1 month almost 2 months. That didn't work so I switched to raw honey and my scalp immediately felt better after switching.

I am so eager to try this. But I just don't know how Its going to be able to get all my tangles out without conditioner. Please explain to me how it works ? Idk how raw honey will be able to help my hair not become tangled. Please help !

I never used conditioner a ton (maybe every second wash when I used shampoo, because my hair is very thin and conditioner just weighed it down), but honestly I think that raw honey does a better job of detangling hair. It left my hair so soft and manageable after one wash. :) My hair ALWAYS tangled easily when I used shampoo & conditioner, but now I only comb it twice a day before bed and when I wake up. I never have tons of tangles like I used to and my hair also has less breakage. I'm not sure how to explain how this works though. Maybe try replacing your current conditioner with the raw honey (still using shampoo until you're ready for no poo) and see if there's a difference! Once you're convinced you can switch over to the honey only, if you like the results. :)

why do you need the honey? Unless I miss the benefit. I understand that you are using it instead of baking soda, but what does the honey actually do that plain water wouldn't?

I hear this brush collects lots of dust, so I recommend to have it in your plastic bag.

Do you literally not wash/rinse (with water) your hair for days unless you feel like doing so or is it just for the shampoo/raw honey?

I wash my hair with the raw honey method once every week/ week and a half/ 2 weeks. It all depends on what I am doing, if I worked out harder or more, or played sports. In between those times when I work out and sweat I just do water rinses to hold me off until the next wash.

Hey so does not washing your hair mean you don't wet it at all? Or just skip the shampoo/wash and rinse with water?
