@Jesus loves a Shovelhead You seem to be critical of Dr Peterson. Perhaps you don't realize this, but commenting on his videos helps him with the KZbin algorithm. Commenting in a negative way invites all his fans to comment on your comment, which helps him even more. If you're a fan who's decided to use a kind of reverse psychology to help promote his videos, kudos to you. If you aren't a fan of his, how does it feel to shoot yourself in the foot? Metaphorically speaking, of course.

I've considered the story of Jesus and how JP compares in moral senses. His moral pureness drives those with evil in their heart mad. His compassion is overwhelming and it is difficult to paint him as malicious yet they often try. I wonder, did Jesus die for our sins or because of our sins? He died because someone didn't realize how great he was or they knew it and that is why he was crucified. Jordan Peterson is often attacked, we know he struggles with health and it is known that stress aggravates health. I see a man sacrificing himself to humanity even during his suffering, while expressing his gratitude to do so. Would we recognize a child of God if we saw one today? I don't think so.

I like how Peterson authentically questions things we all know to be true. As a discipline, this often validates and deepens truth, but more importantly, it forces us to learn, understand, and articulate our positions so we may defend them.

I like how both Prager and Carrola pretended at the beginning like extremism on the right is very small. Never mind that nearly half the GOP thinks Trump won the election and it was stolen. The leader of the GOP literally led a march to try to overturn the election, that ended in a riot where the President called the Vice President a coward for not overturning the election WHILE THE RIOT WAS HAPPENING. Prager himself wrote an article saying he's not convinced the election was legitimate, and the reasons he gave were all ridiculous. I listen to Peterson because he is sane. Prager is a fucking lunatic. I can never respect anybody like Prager.. They are worthy of nothing but utter contempt. I'm completely baffled that Peterson would have Prager on. He should at least pin him on his completely insane view about American Democracy.

Jordan is great for many reasons. I think the largest is because Jordan does what smart people used to do. Mr. Peterson routinely looks to discredit/ punch holes in his own beliefs/views (not only others). People are scared to do this now, because people believe what’s expedient to them and they don’t want to be disabused of those beliefs. The truth can stand up to anything and should not fear examination or criticism, on the contrary, it welcomes it.

It’s all about where the line for the start of life is and there’s little agreement between groups about when that is, yet everyone seems certain they’re right. There is a pretty good individual rights argument once the fetus is ‘alive’ (viable?). Nice. I'm a data engineer. Me and Jesus are friends. But I guess he'd be a data engineer too if he is Asian. What you say is true. A lot of the professions that I'm not in tend to be less male dominated. It's incumbent for a architectural mind to have more intellectual integrity/ honesty than most other professions like sales and marketing. The latter professions also require less abstract thought. Good observation. That also means that people that appreciate complexity are unlikely to conform to societal norms and challenge their beliefs more.

I have actually competed for a position as a french hornist in a well-known orchestra. The blind audition was fought for by female wind players who maintained for years that it was needed to ensure that competence could be judged on the basis of performance. The whole point was to remove bias against female competitors. Believe me, Carolla is right and the New York Times has gone down a badger hole with the wokists. A sad fate.

A blind process, applied equally is the only way to go. Equity is not desirable, even if it were possible. Removing all struggle and uniqueness from an individual’s life for the sake of some abstract goal, no matter how noble, would lead to a catastrophic loss of meaning.

@Anarchy Supreme w/ Anchovies The answer is both equality of opportunity (keep the blind auditions) and promote diversity with tax funded programs to help find and promote skilled talent in under-represented groups. It helps children to see opportunity in the excellence around them, but the success has to be authentically theirs or you steal the meaning from the individual and de-value the position.

@Anarchy Supreme w/ Anchovies That's interesting, but there are lots of people of color who tried anyway. Maya Angelou, poet, Dr. Ben Carson, surgeon, Aretha Franklin, singer, Dizzy Gallespie, musician. I'm not trying to negate your point, only to suggest that some of her perception or ideas about trying may have been shaped by the people she was surrounded by. The Asian community doesn't seem to suffer from that mindset even though there are very few Asian basketball players. Their metric seems to be excellence in whatever you do (even more so than for many caucasian communities), which of course circles back to the topic of meritocracy.
@shelaughs185

@Anarchy Supreme w/ Anchovies Ok. My husband is also an engineer. As the CEO of a small company, he had a good relationship with a professor at a top engineering school, and was able to go see if any up and coming students might be good hires. His only limitation for those hires was that they could not be foreign nationals. Sadly, the US educated students were the poorest thinkers of the bunch because they're taught the formula but not the why of the formula so they could work around it when they needed to. He didn't care what they looked like or whether they were men or women. Ability and work ethic were the only real metrics. There are fewer engineers who are women (I know several) because women generally have different interests, not because we can't cut it. I want the people who built the plane I'm going to get on this week to be the best at building planes, no matter what they look like or gender. Same goes for my pilots. Same goes for my surgeon. It helps no one when we have "affirmative action" hires whether by ethnicity or gender. I'm sure your wife would not want to wonder if she were hired just because she's a woman or just because she's black, and her coworkers shouldn't have to resent her being there for the same reasons (I'm sure that's not the case for her, but it's a ready example because you brought it up - no offense intended). To say you "need more women engineers" is puzzling. Why do you need them? Is there something besides technical expertise that you need, or is it to meet an externally imposed quota? Honest question. Also, I'm sorry she felt uncomfortable going into a white-dominated environment. I hope she has been welcomed and feels accepted. In my experience, engineers are pretty accepting as long as they're competent. 🙂

@@mikekane2492 Good question. In a nutshell: Business & government elites (Davos/Great Reset) believe the switch from shareholder to stakeholder (capitalist to socialist) economy is necessary to compete with China long term. Coincidentally, it would also make the elites who get on board richer and more powerful 😏 To bring this about, westernized countries are moving toward a politically correct score (ESG = environmental, social, governance) by which businesses (and by extension, individuals) must abide. Oligarchy eventually controls/replaces government (the will of the people). For reference: Pro-ESG BlackRock manages $9T The top 10 investment firms manage $34T Whereas: Entire US GDP = $21T US 2020 consumer spending = $12-13T This is why boycotts have low impact and the NBA persists in pushing wokeness despite drop in profits (for example). Check out Justin Haskins. He’s writing a book and in August gave a good interview to Allie Beth Stuckey. I’d link it but YT deletes my comments when I link anything useful.

@@bradbecker8982 I feel you have a most flawed and self evident error. Think of all the great people throughout history. Joan of Arc, Martin Luther King, William Wallace, Jesus Christ. All of these through sacrifice elevated what would have been a rather meaningless existence into something than has transcended time. What would be the retort? If they had been more selfish their lives would have had greater meaning? Doubtful. I find this evident in mine own life...my love and admiration for my father has grown throughout my life as I recognize the personal sacrifices he made to bring us out of poverty. His sacrifice did not make him less, but rather magnified himself and all those around him.
@FindingTheNarrative
@FindingTheNarrative 2 жыл бұрын
@@bradbecker8982 you have failed to differentiate the event from the meaning of the event. Christ's whole ministry was to be a sacrifice to ensure mankind's freedom. That at least is the type being portrayed. When he makes that statement it is the exact moment God is rejecting him in order to accept mankind. Likewise you are promoting self to level of deity. If all are deity than what is divine? Peterson's approach is equal echoed in Buddhism as Christianity. The realization that sacrifice leads to greater enlightenment is understood across all cultures and fields of study. The whole concept of the future and community is one that mandates sacrifice. The reason I used those examples is that it was not their words that lead to great change and elevation. It was indeed their sacrifice. Their sacrifice cemented their ideas and aspirations across time. If they had merely spoken them they would have faded in the noise long ago.

The 20th Century was the bloodiest in human history largely at the hands of atheist state communists. 100s of millions of people dead, murdered to eradicate religion and usher in utopia. It is not just limited to the 20th Century. The French Revolution descended into excess first by targeting the church, then by attempting to impose thought and compliance. The Cult of Reason was an attempt to force compliance, destroy not just the church but faith, and impose atheism. The Albanians made religion illegal under Enver Hoxha. The Soviets suppressed all regions and established the League of Militant Atheism, imprisoned and murdered 10s of millions of believers, and established museums to atheism throught the Soviet Union. Additionally you have millions of dissidents who fought tyranny precisely because of faith. The simple assertion that any religion is equally culpable to the excess of the worst tyrannies in human history ignores the blood lust of the opponents of religion in the last century alone and equally ignored the people who opposed such tyranny then and earlier because of their faith.

@Jesus loves a Shovelhead Thousands of people say his words have changed their lives for the better. He’s overcome an addiction in the public eye, raised two successful kids, and has a loving, 30+ year marriage. YOU are smearing him in a comments section on YT through an anonymous account. 🤔 If anything, he’s raised awareness of benzodiazepines and the risk of addiction. Maybe there’s someone else more worthy of your concern and disdain?

Prager still has not accepted the legitimacy of the 2020 election, because: "In 132 years, no president has received more votes in his run for reelection and lost. Yet Donald Trump received 10 million more votes in 2020 than in 2016 - and lost.,,,,Trump won 18 of the 19 counties both Democrats and Republicans regard as the “bellwether” counties that virtually always go with the outcome of presidential elections. Yet he lost." I'm sorry man. Prager is a fucking lunatic. Anybody that entrains thoughts that the election was stolen because of completely idiotic reasons like that should not be listened to by anybody. It's like saying the Washington Nationals could not have won the 2019 world series legitimately because the Washington DC team had not won since 1924. He does not believe in America. He thinks the whole thing is "rigged", just like Trump. He thinks his side is right, and those that oppose him are cheating.

I saw this was 2 hours long, and thought to myself, do I really want to listen to this? Best 2 hours in quite some time. If this whole pandemic thing was put in the hands of people like yourselves, we probably would be in a better place than what we currently are. Thankyou gentleman. So worthwhile listening to and learning from. Go free speech with dignity and integrity!

I love this one because if you watch the interactions between Peterson and Prager, there seems to be a bit of tension because Jordan doesn’t automatically accept Prager’s suppositions. He makes him justify his assertions before he can get behind them. To anyone who thinks that Peterson is far right or a mouthpiece for right wingers, show them this. He’s purely concerned with logic and intellectual honesty regardless of politics. It just so happens that many right wing positions ARE the positions of logic and merit. Very interesting.

Jordan is as sincere a philosopher that we have seen since Socrates. So he does indeed question everyone, especially himself. That’s why his message is so captivating in its obvious truthful capacity.

I would argue that Peterson goes through the motions of challenging Prager's blatant bias. But then he immediately accepts Prager's defense, and moves on to the next thing. I'm starting to see this pattern in Peterson's podcasts, where he makes token moves toward criticism, and then wholeheartedly accepts whatever his guests say.
@dust7548
@dust7548 2 жыл бұрын
@@BrightBlueJim If that were the case, he’d cancel his scheduled talks with Muslim apologists because Prager is opposed to the religion of Islam. But those talks are still set to occur and Peterson never really conceded any territory on the morality of the religion. If you haven’t watched the whole video, you should. Might change your mind on the patterns you’ve seen.

Y'all have a point imo. He had some cool ideas, but he always spoke like he was definitely right and knew all the answers. He was less involved in a conversation, but rained down his wisdom onto Jordan. Little pretentious. But holy, what caught me completely off guard was his Palestine-Israel stance, dayum. Couple minutes before the 2-hour mark. He goes on to justify it by saying there's eight times as many Palestinians or something like that. But the death count is also about that many times higher on their side. Lost some authenticity in my book for that. But I'm admittedly not too well educated on the topic.
