Just wanted to give encouragement. I have turned things around. Only discovered financial literacy in the last couple of years. I’m 47. Started with Dave Ramsey now I binge on a lot of content such as the humble penny. Once you start. You can’t stop 😂 I have been investing into pension since the age of thirty. But at 40 I only had £56k in my pot. It’s all about intentionality. I’ve slowly increased work place pension %. Opened a stocks and shares ISA and regularly put in small amounts. Currently paying down mortgage. I’m single. Never earned a massive wage. Hoping to be mortgage free before 50 which will make my living expenses much my cheaper. To give you an idea my net worth at 39 was negative 60k. And by 49 just ten years later (with house appreciation, pension, emergency fund and ISA) I’m looking at £450k net worth. I’m sure people will say it’s not possible or that I’ve been given it. The truth is I have sacrificed for tomorrow. I’m single and have no children, my parents haven’t given me a penny since I left at 18. I’ve had tough decades but it seems now is the time for me to make areal difference for future me. Be kind to future you. And good luck. Xx

How does this compare to a private business pension where I am not paying the tax of taking the money out of the business as dividends. Is the business pension still the better option? Thanks as always for the great advice.
@TheHumblePenny2 күн бұрын
You always pay tax on dividends (above the small tax-free amount). You also pay tax on pensions income (except the 25% lump sum). The only time you don't pay tax is when your BUSINESS (not you) transfers money to you pension. The BUSINESS does not pay corporation tax on that money.
@JSkinglePhoto2 күн бұрын
Yes that makes sense thank you. I am currently paying into a business pension for myself and my wife. I understand we get 25% tax free when we come to withdraw. We will then pay tax on the remaining 75% as we withdraw it. Is that correct? So I guess my question is. Am I better putting my money into that or taking it as dividends and then investing in a stocks and shares isa? (I understand this is not legal advice) would appreciate your opinion. Thanks so much.

Taxes and running costs are pretty significant in real estate, including capital gains if you want to liquidate. ISA on the other hand is incredible. I have run the numbers and even in very high yield areas (i.e. where rent is 10% or more of house value annually) I can't get the numbers to stack vs investing via an ETF in an ISA. You either pay yourself a dividend or salary or you put it into your pension (tax deductible). Once the money is in your personal account, you'll have a bit of tax to pay at some point. If you look at the S&P 500 over the last one hundred years there have only ever been two instances where there has been a negative return over a 10 year period. No one can accurately predict future stock market performance, but the cost of not investing means the purchasing power of any money you do have saved will just be constantly eroded by inflation.

Agree with the above and would rather invest but I think 8% is just a bit too optimistic

💎💎💎💎💎💎 It’s my first time here, and a starter at being intentional with my financial goals, also improving on my savings strength but I know little or nothing about how to start investing or proper ways to save. Can you recommend a video of yours to watch for starters/novice like me please? Thank you for helping us and all your efforts. God bless 💎 💎💎💎

Very informative. Please, how do I start investing in SNP500? Which platform do I use? I'm new to investing.
@TheAnonyy2 күн бұрын
They won't be investing £500 otherwise they would have been saving it already more like £100 or less need realistic figures here .
@TheHumblePenny2 күн бұрын
I'm using numbers they actually suggested. Realistic for them.

I can't even save £50 most months 😏🙄 If you can save 500pm after bills, etc, as disposable income then you should have been saving/investing already 😏 If you don't have that disposable then you'd have to cut your own hair, no takeaways, no dates or much of a social life, not smoke, not drink, rarely treat yourself, no holidays, no stay-cations, walk/cycle to work, buy the bare minimum for shopping/food, don't use your heating for more than 2-4hrs a day, shower/bath once a month and only turn on the light in whichever room you're in, each time. Do all that and you'll be fine, lol, maybe even save a bit more... Good Luck 😒

This is what I would do, I would take out a £10k loan. Put that £10k loan in an account and all my bills will come out of that account. I would than use every Penny I have from salary and chuck it into a SIPP. I’m talking £2k per month into a SIPP. Once I have £10k I will focus on paying back the loan. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again.
@scitec61663 күн бұрын
How long did you do that for and what did you make after paying back the 10k loan?

Terrible advice
@Abdul_Rahman862 күн бұрын
@@Banthah 1) this not advice it’s what I did it worked. I only have 25 years till I’m 57, I need to have as much money in my SIPP as possible in the shortest time frame. In fact I need £1 million in my SIPP by the time I’m 46 2) i invest £500 per month (MINIMUM )into my SIPP regardless. 3) lets face it, not many people have time and not many people have money. 4) regardless of what anyone says, there is NO such thing as a healthy 65 year old. 5) it worked for me, doesn’t mean it’ll work for you, but let me guess. People take out loans to go on holidays, to spend on weddings, pay klarana for Xmas presents, but god forbid I try and and utilise and leverage what I can to pay for my future 😂😂😂
