I'm 86 this year and I've never had a problem with a Jerrican , even at my advanced age I haven't spilled anything, and I use an old steel one for my motorized mower .. I remember when I was a young man over in Korea I refueled Jeeps in the dark without spilling the fuel or blowing me and my crew to kingdom come .I've obviously outlived my understanding of the world you young folks created and made something simple so complex .

Even the new jerry cans come with that stupid spout. What I like about this is the vertical fill. Those straight spouts are impossible to pour into my lawnmower and snowblower without spilling, just because the angle is so wrong. I'm definitely getting this one.

They're better than the previous EPA cans. But 3 improvements would be a squeeze handle because your thumb does get cramped in that position if you're filling multiple tanks. A longer angled hose to make the initial pour less awkward. And finally a rear handle.

The best gas can is the one you find in grandpa's garage made of steel, has a metal screw on breather on one end and a metal end with a skinny flexible orange/red/yellow rubber hose coming out of it with a rubber plug that goes into the end when done. That hose end seems like it stays flexible for 50+ years. Now thats the best can ever.

I’ve used these cans for years. One suggestion. Before removing the cap, press the button to release the pressure. If the cap is off, it will spit gas.

No. The button/ head assembly self vents when pouring, so it flows without issue.

Thanks for the video, I just did not want to test the no spill and had wondered if it would really stop. I get upset when I have a gas/oil mix overflow and it over gets on everything and you have to take time clean up the mess. But now, I am going to give that joker a try.

I have a 40 year old Eagle galvanized steel gas can. Still works like a champ. The only problem is, when the old yellow rubber hose cracks, it'll be almost impossible to replace. (The base of the hose is also the gasket for the screw-on lid.) Thankfully it has another fill cap on top thats 2" diameter, so I don't have to keep removing the hose side to put gas in it. Most of these "compliant" gas cans are useless to fill a car. Without a long flexible funnel, you're almost lost. At least with this one, it looks like you can slip a foot long piece of hose over the nozzle. That should be able to get you into any vehicle's fuel tank.

I got suckered into buying a couple of the government EPA designed disasters. Leaked the first time. Hard to use. But I agree that the NO-SPILL is the best ever gasoline can spout. The one I own has been used mainly for pouring gasoline-oil mixtures. Used it dozens of times without any problems.

The Scepter can and nozzle shown at the beginning works a lot better if you cut off the green collar and simply pull the nozzle back and hold it to open the valve and pour gas. The reason that the button of your "no-spill" can becomes sticky when it sits unused is possibly due to the plastic swelling and expanding from the gasoline vapors. I've seen this with the Scepter and other gas cans: storing the nozzle inside the fuel tank causes the plastic (especially the yellow or green plastics) to swell. Best to find a way to seal the can with a simple thread-on cap that doesn't have a nozzle attached ( I bought a couple extra cap and nozzle assemblies and epoxy-glued a plastic disk into the cap to block the hole, and added a rubber gasket). Note that ethanol-blended gas with fuel-stabilizer added *might* be a contributing factor to the nozzle mechanisms swelling and becoming sticky (just a guess on my part). Unfortunately, every gas can brand has different threads for the cap/ nozzle and they should be considered non-interchangeable. This unfortunately holds true for the plastic gas cans of our youth as well (everyone eventually lost the little yellow center plug for the hole in the cap, aka the Jeezus cap, as in "Jeezus, where did that d--n thing go?!" I have a "no spill" can like yours but the nozzle is inconveniently short, and hard to use for some fill-up purposes. The long tube-like plastic "screen" is a "flame arrestor" that is supposed to prevent an open flame from following the vapor trail back to the can and causing an explosion. If one is smart enough to refrain from pouring gas onto a bonfire, or lighting a cigarette while someone pours gas nearby, the flame arrestor is probably unnecessary....

I bend the two yellow tabs that surround the button out of the way (90 degrees). This allows you to push the button with your palm which is needed as the spring wears your thumb out trying to dump 5 gallon into a zero turn. I also remove the "fire mitigation" filters. I have problems with them kicking off the pump handles and also gas bouncing off and splashing out unless you fill them at reduced speed. Considering putting an old school pop open vent in the can to speed up transfer. I rarely overfill but I will say I owned that same leaf blower and definately have fond memories of overfilling it every time. Ha!

Of the “new” style cans, they’re OK and perhaps better than some but still not much to get excited about. They still seem like a solution in need of a problem. The ratcheting/locking ring is a pain in the you-know-what just as much as the stiff button will have your finger/thumb cramping in no time at all. They pour slowly and the larger ones really need a second handle to save you from juggling things while you wait and wait and wait for your tank to fill. I’m just curious to know how many morons were blown to Kingdom Come by the old-style cans in order that we’re forced to use these instead.

I had your "ideal" gas can. I hated it and finally gave it away to my yard man. It was still full of fresh gas. I hated it because it was too awkward to handle and pour and strained my back trying to use it. The nozzle is too short. Great for you if you like it.

In my experience the No Spill works well when you can hold the tank at waist level or lower, like filling a generator, chain saw, lawn mower etc. When you fill an automotive gas tank, you must hold the tank higher and it is difficult to support the can and press down the green button.

Use a 6” Irwin Quick Grip clamp to hold the green button down, or drill a hole in each of the yellow tabs at the right place and insert a nail to hold the green button down.

Really glad I found this! I've got one of those stupid ones where you push on the neck and then have to pull it back. It leaks like crazy and it's practically brand new. I've only used it a few times and the mechanism for it is already failing. Every single time I get both of my hands covered in gasoline because of the way you have to grab the stupid thing. It either completely blocks the gas from coming out at all or comes out in a flood all at once because of the awkward position you have to hold everything in. It's terrible! I'm going to pick up two of these no-spill things from TSC today. I desperately need to replace the one I have for the lawnmower and have to pick up a second one for my 2 stroke weed wacker. It's insane how poorly designed most "modern" equipment is!

Man that is the coolest nozzle ever. Let me just say this is been something that’s been aggravating me ever since they added ethanol to the unleaded I don’t know if it’s true but apparently has to be completely sealed or if it evaporates and then you get some kind of yellow goo. But my local Quiktrip added a new pump and it’s basically the old gas minus the ethanol corn stuff and the reason I added it is they have a contract with the new classic car place across the street lol.

Living in the Alaska bush I use a lot of gas cans. I agree the no-spill are the best. They will still spray you with gas mist on a hot day if you dont vent them, but they are the only usable modern cans. I just wish I didn't get so many bad cans before I found this brand.

yep all these EPA locks make for some confusing gas cans. I asked my friend who's a greenskeeper at a golf course what he uses and he enthusiastically said No-Spill (aptly named). My dad still had to figure out how to use it he's been around awhile lol this isn't your grandfather's gas can as they say. Once he got the idea that all you have to do is press the green button with your thumb and it'll shut off automatically like a gas pump he got it. Now we have to work on getting the cap unscrewed and locked on again lol This was good demo. and yeah our has the FMD device. Now I love to fill the mower instead of wiping gasoline off of it. P.S. I bought one of these about 2 months ago and love it. Zero spill and easy to hold the 5 gal and pour because of the two handles it has. I haven't tried it for filling a car but I don't do that often...cant remember the last time I did.Probably won't work too well because of the short spout. Wonder if you can get a longer flexible spout for it? I use it for my motorcycles and lawn stuff like mowers and weed wackers. Love it! Glad someone else likes it as much as I do. Eliminating the little frustrations in life feels good.

Those screens suck when filling. But at least they made it so you can pull it out to fill. But if you leave it in when filling either you have to fill so slow you'll be swearing at the can at the pump, or when you try and fill it stops it from going into the can and makes the pump think it's full or splashes back at you and the same time

The"mesh strainer" made my can difficult to fill. Gas pump keeps shutting off because fuel back splashes. Pulled my out. It's also a bit of a challenge if you needed to put gas in your car.

It isn't a filter, it's a safety device to prevent flames from entering the gas can from the spout. It seems some Darwin award winners were being severely burned when their gas cans exploded after they used them to rekindle fires. Another case of everyone being penalized for the stupid things some people do.

FMD is what used to be called a flame arrestor. Used to be a mteal screen in the spout. You need them to be DOT approved, although OSHA does not require it. Go figure. Not catching on fire and exploding is a good thing.

Several years ago I was in a big hardware store in the city and saw a display with these gas cans. They had a video with a pretty girl with huge tracts of land demonstrating how it works. (Hey, I'm a guy. Sue me.) Looked impressive. So about four years ago I bought a new Snapper 2-stroke string trimmer and decided to get one of these 1.25 gal cans to see for myself how well it worked. Cost about 50% more than the other cans but if it worked it would be worth it. That first season I loved it. Worked like a champ. Then winter set it and I didn't touch it again until spring. Now, I don't fill my 2-stroke fuel until it's empty and the can still had about a quart or two left in it. Which means that it had about three or four quarts of air in there. That's when I discovered my first problem. There's no vent. The next spring, I went into the garage to fetch my trimmer and here's my can all shriveled up like a prune. Without a vent, when it's hot the air will expand and force it's way out of the can, but there is no way for air to get back in as the the temperature drops, so atmospheric pressure just crushes it. I wound up emptying it, closing it back up, and setting it out in the sun. I was able to eventually pop the sides back out. However, now I have to leave the spout ring a little loose so that it vents properly. That means that when I go to fill, I have to remember to tighten it again or I'm spilling all over the place. The second problem came up at the beginning of season 3. I got so used to the thing just stopping when my tank was full that I quit paying attention to it. Until the one day it didn't stop. Spilled oily blue gas all over my tailgate. Now, I have to watch and carefully pour. Ya know, like in the old'n days. Except in the old'n days, I didn't also have to make sure that spout ring was tight before I filled and then loosen it again so that the can didn't collapse in on itself overnight. That Snapper finally died and I bought a 4-stroke Ryobi. Tomorrow, I'm heading into town to buy the cheapest can they have and an ol' fashioned spout kit. Sometimes the old ways are better. Damn, I miss steel gas cans. Oh, and never let some girl you don't know with a nice pair of cans talk you into buying anything.

I don't think so I have tried one of the one gallon ones on all my chainsaws cuz I thought it would be nice since it's common to always overflow when you're filling the small tanks on these also and every saw I try it on it fills to the top and just keeps overflowing out all over. Personally I think these tanks are garbage if I find find the receipt for mine they're going back to where I bought them and I'll stick with my EZ flow nozzles on my tanks.

They are great until the internal seals fail, then it leaks everywhere and even out the back as one is filling. Push buttons also go bad. They're no-spill until they aren't and the short spouts are a pain. I pulled the FMD out too. It's a very slow pour and the FMD slows it down more!!

I found the No-Spill nozzle online at Ace Hardware for $9.99 and it shows it as being available for store pickup today. The 2.5-gallon can with this nozzle is $23.99 and it is also available for store pickup. Follow-up: All were readily available at Ace Hardware. The 5-gallon container had a handle on the top and on the side opposite to the spigot.

I have to disagree with you on these cans. What I like about them is the square sides, the clear fuel indicator on the side. What I don't like is that I carry diesel in mine and they leak from the thread down the side. Also, when you are done dispensing they will continue to drip out the front where the cap doesn't fit tight like my BHP prostate. I drilled holes in the yellow tabs so I could install a heavy wire to hold the button down. It is my understanding at one time they had O-Rings in these that leaked and I may have those. THE PART I REALLY HATE: I have called these people and sent 3 different emails and they simply won't answer. I have been looking for solid caps to go on top as i transport these on my boat and I can't have them leaking. Unfortunately their "DOT APPROVED" caps also have a high degree of leakage failures as reviewed on Amazon. At roughly $15/cap they shouldn't leak AT ALL! The cap is a 63mm Type F thread and I am having a hard time finding a cap that fits flat. Just my $.02 about these overpriced containers.

this is not for vehicles. it is great for filling mowers, smaller cans, lawn equipment, power equipment. the point is that the tank on the lawn equipment doesnt overflow and spill gas. that seems to be the whole idea of this.

I have a gas can that has the flame retardant in in the tank like the one you have the problem with the one I have and the one that I've seen you demonstrate how do you know when you get to Mike's Hank doesn't have any clear plastic at the back or the front I have to mix the gasoline with oil for my two-stroke motor and I don't want to add more gas than its necessary I have a big 5-gallon gas can that I want to put the gas from that into this one gallon but I don't know when I get to a gallon any help that you might be able to provide would be great

I have four of these gas cans and think they are a terrible design! Try holding a 5 gal can up while you press that stupid green button. A real pain in the butt. My fix was to pin the button in the open position. Very easy to do by removing the valve from the tank and completely pressing the green button while inserting a pin in the white tube that is on the underside. There is already a slot that the pin fits in. Now I have four very easy-to-use gas cans and I also get to thumb my nose at the EPA and a very stupid design. Love it.

I found an even better and more secure way of fixing this terrible EPA design. Push the green button all the way in and drill a very small hole that you insert a comparable nail into. This permanently opens the spout allowing easy poring of fuel. Use the nozzle cap to seal the tank when not actually fueling. Fueling now is a two-hand proposition, not a three.

Agreed. Best gas cans on the market at a reasonable price. I have then of them. There is also an available accessory extension of the spout for filling newer vehicles that have the "No Cap" gas tanks. I also have 2 of the 2 & q/2 gallon cans for my ATVs. Securely mounted, they handle the rough terrain with no worries.

Have you been successful using this can to fill a car? I have one and can't figure out out to use it without a hose or some other attachment that allows me to turn the can fully vertical.

Almost nowhere do they tell you it will not work on a car/truck filler neck. There is nozzle extension with a flexible hose end that will allow this. Can be found at O'Reilly's and Amazon.

Lol. EZ pour spout for your old can. Even has a vent to install. "Fixes" all the new gas can issues. The no spills aren't as bad. Adding a vent helps alot for those no spill ones, but doesn't do the stop at the level trick anymore because it bypasses the internal vent. Mostly the 5 gallon new ones bother me for the slow rate. 1 gallon I'd leave as it comes

Waste! We are not filling wine glasses but real gas tanks. It is very hard to hold a 5 gallon and have to keep pressing a button at the same time.

After reading lots of reviews in my search for a good gas can, I fell for the hype and bought a No-Spill 2.5 gallon can for my lawn mower and snow thrower. As far as I'm concerned the No-Spill name is Bull feathers, as are their claims. It doesn't work on my equipment, it might work if you have a larger gas tank with a straight shot from the filler opening that would allow the automatic valve to work, but it definitely does not work on my Toro's. I intend to spend a few more bucks and buy a really good steel gas can, made in the USA, from a company called Justrite. $84 for a 2.5 gallon Type II can might seem expensive, until you add up all the money you've wasted over the years buying plastic junk.

I own a landscaping company and own probably 8 of these "No Spill" can. Never had an issue with them, they get used almost every day and banged around. If you need an extension, just slip any piece of 3/4" hose on the end. Sounds like the problem is you're too dumb to operate a gas can. Which explains why you paid $85 for a single 2.5 gallon can.
