If you’re looking for a tasty, no spread cut out vanilla sugar cookie recipe, try this one! It holds its shape so well, and it’ll crumble (then melt) right in your mouth. Yum! Please let me know if you need any help or clarification at all. I’m happy to help, and happy baking!
Tips:
-Use slightly colder than room temp butter to help with spread.
-I use salted butter AND add extra salt (I love that extra kick). However, feel free to back off the salt some or use unsalted butter. It needs SOME salt, though!
-After cutting your shapes and placing them in a cookie sheet, pop the whole sheet (uncovered) in the freezer for 5-10 minutes. This also helps with spread. The sheet will go straight into the oven from there.
-Feel free to play around by subbing your favorite flavorings!
Some adjustments you can make to this recipe to cater to your taste preferences:
1. Powdered sugar gives your cookie an airy, crumbly, soft bite that molds together in your mouth as you chew. Granulated sugar gives your cookie a dense, chewy, soft bite. Choose the texture you prefer and use that sugar in the recipe. I love both!
2. Try adding in some almond extract (about a tsp) in addition to the vanilla. Yum! Some don’t like the taste of almond extract, but many do!
3. Please make sure you try this recipe WITH icing, too. I don’t add a ton of flavor here because, typically, these cut outs will be covered in sweet icing. It’s just a taste balance for me. If I want a sugar cookie without icing or a different type of icing (like buttercream), I use a completely different cookie recipe. 😊
4 Make sure to adjust your baking time/temp if you roll thinner than 3/8th, and remmeber that ovens vary.
