Thank you! I learned more about how to check a carburetor from 5 minutes of this video than I have in the past by reading and talking with people. @rsage_8 жыл бұрын
Great video. Just an FYI, I had a very similar issue on my Café Racer. I finally discovered that the issue was the gas cap being sealed off too well and causing a vacuum effect in the tank area which didn't allow for the gas to come down to the carb at the necessary rate. To make sure this isn't the issue for you, just crack open the fuel cap and start it up. If it runs well, then you might want to make sure nothing is blocking off the breather portion of the gas cap.
@tedenderpalmer65506 жыл бұрын
Get rid of the oil injection and go to premix. Oil will preserve the gas so the idle jet won't clog. Best scooter video I've seen in a long time. I use a $12 jet cleaning tool and seafoam, works get. Seafoam is also a great fuel preservative.

How would you go about premixing the fluids? In other words how much would you mix per fluid part? Did I say that right? Ex: 3:1parts gasoline:oil

Pick up a 50cc Chinese scooter at the end of summer for $60.00. The scooter was in pieces as the previous owner tore it apart to repaint it. He lost interest and decided to sell the scooter rather than put it back together. Thanks for the tip on oiling the foam filter. No manual came with the scooter so I wasn't aware that you needed to oil the filter. I run K&N filter on my G35 so I'm going to use that oil for the foam filter.

I made that mistake with my motorcycle in the past, a 96 Honda Nighthawk 750... I ripped the stock airbox out to throw individual filters on (cut it out because I was young and doing it the right way was too hard! haha) and it ran like CRAP afterwards, very lean and even when rejetted (had to go many times larger to finally get it right) It still wasn't running good enough or consistent enough at part throttle so I took it as a lesson learned and bought a replacement stock airbox, and threw the original 1 size larger jets back in... it ran so awesome and regained a bunch of forgotten power.. I was thrilled. So now I always make sure to educate people on that (especially the CV style carbs with vacuum slides) so they don't make the same mistake and waste time / money / effort. I was young, at the time, but I'm glad I didn't do anything worse to it like many younger people tend to do... 10+ years later I still have the bike.

Hahaha OMG !! no helmet !! you daredevil you. Big 25 on the driveway, classic winter time spin with red cheeks and watery eyes at the finish too. Enjoyed that a lot. Here's my tips, grab a standard wooden handled wire brush and a pair of pliers, grab a single wire with pliers and yank it out of the brush, now you have a tempered steel jet probe that will push all kinds of gummy snot out the way instead of folding up as weak sauce copper will that's not nearly thin enough to begin with. Second tip is to hold the carb upside down and notice how the float lays down in relation to the bowl mounting surface. After 50 years of this, I've noticed that they always and I do mean always lay parallel with the bowl mounting surface, it's a quick float height confirmation and always tells if someone else has been in there messing with that when they really shouldn't be. And final tip is never believe translated instructions at face value, regular motor oil would have been fine, but I put on approximately two tablespoons in a haphazard manner and roll it up and then roll that up into a paper towel to then stand on it under the ball of one foot while I bounce up and down. Unrolled then the filter is completely wet as the oil has distributed throughout and excess has been removed by the paper towel. Consistent results with minimum piddling around time spent. Still not sold on their automatic choke system though, seems to need lots of electric starter for bone cold start. I'd be tempted to add a 'hot' button, perhaps also wired to the starter solenoid so it's lifted before the alternator can do it.
@curbmassa6 жыл бұрын
Guitar stings of different diameters work well, too. Adding a hot button won't work. When the choke is cold is when it allows extra fuel to pass. As it heats up, that fuel gets shut off. The brass plunger you saw when he had it apart actually "grows" about 1/4" as it heats up.

When you started this and said "he got it from the chevy dealership" i just knew it would be a sad story. I really don't think modern petrol does carbs any good. its full of ethanol and bio-crap these days. In the UK they only put a tiny disclaimer on the pump that it "may contain ethanol" the fuel the big supermarkets sell especially is real garbage. A lot of classic car owners i know avoid it and run on the rare premium higher octane fuel because they don't want blockage issues, corrosion or misfiring. When i was like 11 or 12 a friend of mine got one of these Chinese scooters off the internet, got delivered in a plywood box from Hong Kong. He then swapped the parts off a wrecked Honda bike on to it and it was actually pretty good. We used to go tearing around the woods and car parks on it. Then some chavs stole it off his drive one night. The police caught some kids riding it a few months later and it was just ruined. Shame. It was basically a poor mans Honda. Nice fix, nice watch and as always safety third! ;)

I was thinking about doing that for my 250cc. I'm sure I would need all Honda parts to make it work right

Thanks for great video ,I have same scooter,with same issues... Hopefully it will run like yours..
@Garth20115 жыл бұрын
It's actually a good thing the engine didn't run good without the air cleaner since it's so close to the tire and the debris from the dirt/gravel road. Just one little jet, the idle circuit, often makes lots of small engines fail to run due to the ethanol fuel used these days. Algae and water builds up in them if they are not used often which becomes a flow problem. There is an additive that helps prevent the fuel from going bad in just two months and controls water/algae growth, one is Startron Starbrite. Good fix....lots of fun not having to deal with the code/scanner.

It was standard, manual, gearbox oil and it's impossible to say whether it will work for you. It depends on the air cleaner, not the type of engine. Some foam/cloth aircleaners are used dry, some require oiling. There should be instructions, either in the owner's manual or on the vehicle itself.
