Interesting vlog today! Tillage radish is a new one to me....do you harvest them at some point or what is the process in terms of Tillage radishes? are they usable as animal fodder?

They are excellent forage. But the idea is they have huge long taproots sometimes up to 10 feet that break the hard pan and draw nutrients from the deep mineral layers of the soil.

For my Broadcast Spreaders ... I just cover the Seed with water, overnight. It Will Expand to Twice the Volume, so leave plenty of room, in a large plastic tub. Then I add inoculate, if called for & broadcast the seed. It comes up faster & more successfully.

I sell Massey Ferguson tractors (also a couple more brands). We give our customers a quart of QMI to start them off with a really good fuel treatment. You might check it out and see if it helps with your water issue. It works well in gas engines as well and could be the "one product" to help maintain all fuel systems on your farm.

I have the same problem with water in diesel. I drained both the tractor and tank on truck. Then when I get diesel just get enough for what your going to use for a few days. It’s cheaper then fuel filter every other day.

Why would you want to have water mixed in the fuel especially for winter?
@johnshoureas1629
@johnshoureas1629 5 жыл бұрын
@@rosejafari8917 Because as water freezes it expands, which would rise in the tank and give you more fuel. It's a 10% savings during the winter months as a consumer gift from the oil companies.
@williamj.stilianessis1851
@williamj.stilianessis1851 5 жыл бұрын
@@rosejafari8917 I think you missed the joking sarcasm in the reply. You do NOT want water in the tank or fuel. However, diesel manages to accumulate more condensate than gasoline and naturally settles in the tank. Hence the water blow off valves on the bottom and or built into the fuel line. I drain mine at least weekly. I don't get much, but to me, any is too much. And don't bother with the isopropyl alcohol mixes for fuel. It will rot a rubber fuel hose in no time at all. Just bleed the lines and keep as warm as possible.

It is very interesting to see how similar the systems of pasture improvement are despite the many miles and many degrees temperature difference between your place and mine. I've used calcium prills for short term Ph rectification though ground lime has given longer term and a more significant Ph lift. Where you are using fodder radish I've used chicory and plantain to add humus to the lower layers of my soil, building soil from both below as well as above. The chicory and plantain are also believed to have a beneficial effect reducing gastrointestinal parasites in grazing animals. Deer also love chicory and it makes a very attractive flower if left to grow in deer plots or field margins. I can't wait to see how your farm progresses and what livestock you intend to keep. Regards from Angus in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

What variety of fescue did you seed? Regular tall fescue or a novel variety like Max Q? To your water issue, can you add a canister style fuel/water separator to the remote tank? They are very simple and work well on boats. Some have a clear reservoir and allow you to drain the accumulated water without changing the spin off filter canister.

We started off using k32 tall fescue...but have moved on to k31 tall since if you have any k31 mixed in with the k32 it will cross breed and no longer be endophyte free....why waste the additional cost of k32 right

I paid about $1,500.00 for my used John Deere 8200 grain drill here in Kansas. it's a 10' tractor-pull grain drill that can drill everything from small clover and Alfalfa (I grow Alfalfa here in my hay field) all the way to Oat, and Rye and all types of wheat and all the way up to cowpeas. Watch the auction sites for good deals on all this stuff. Big farmers are always buying new equipment, and selling off the old used gear for whatever they can get for it. Smaller farms can get really good deals buying their older used gear.

It's not if you only have to use it once per acre but I have seen Josh have to go through the same area several times before he gets the results he wants and for his farm once over the whole thing is still $2200 to $3000 just in rental fees then you have to add on the seed costs. I guess my point is that while it is cheaper there is still a good chunk of money involved
