Dude Water Strike is awesome. No damage, fairly forgiving window, doesn’t use wirebugs, replaces the weapon’s worst move, and can be comboed into a home run swing or a lvl 2 charge with Courage style. Such a beautiful addition to an already amazing weapon. It’s a shame about the slide attacks in Rise though.

The lack of sliding attacks and audio feedback makes me so sad. I was a hammer main back in world, but the hammer in rise just feels pitifil in comparison. I loved the spin to win.

@@bakaoujibakaouji672 The sliding attacks are dependent on the area, and I've seen hammer users almost exclusively use the move whenever they got the chance back in World. Maybe not the most efficient thing to do every moment, but can't really fault them for having fun with it. Every weapon actually had several contextual moves based on the environment; it's one of my favorite parts of World's combat

@@TheMoonman4they aren't just using the slide attack because they want to You automatically slide while charging your hammer Rise made hammer feel terrible because the sliding was so unresponsive and you are forced to engage with it if you start charging your hammer plus the sliding would occur in the most random places, uphill sometimes, and was unusably bad

@@connork9745 As a hammer main, I used to always go out of my way to perform sliding attacks in World. It did good KO if you could land everything on the head and built up mounts ridiculously fast. If there was a hill, you bet yourself I'm gonna be sliding down it if given the opportunity. In Rise, still a hammer main, but I try to avoid hills at all cost. Sliding feels extremely unpredictable, and the sliding attack has this weird delay that isn't present in world. Plus, with the speed of the monsters in Rise, you're just putting yourself in a really bad situation. Also, while aerial attacks can trigger a Wyvern Ride, you're better off just using silkbind attacks instead of the sliding attack anyways; hell, they even made the sliding attack on demand via Silkbind Spinning Bludgeon, which really makes me wonder why they thought keeping the sliding attack was even a good idea in the first place.

Before buying Sunbreak, my friend and I were reading reviews and lots and LOTS of people said the monsters are so fast that you can't dodge them and they keep getting carted through no fault of their own. We're up to the anomaly grind now and we've discovered that those reviews are 100% skill issue (and Greatsword). But after seeing the comments on this video, I'm also starting to wonder if it's not people who came from world, saw "Switch Skills", decided it was too confusing and they wouldn't bother with them, and suddenly the difficulty spiked because you kinda HAVE to tailor your own experience and they just didn't.

To be fair, GS also has plenty of options for not getting hit. Strong arm stance is one but also Power Sheathe has i-frames at the beginning. And even with Surge Slash the weapon still isn’t meant for long combos, sheathing should be frequent not only for safety and mobility but also for reapplying Power Sheathe. GS can also work as a shield if you really can’t get out of the way but GS shielding should really only be a last resort.

@@cheezy805 Weird. From my experience, Sunbreak enemies are generally slower. Maybe not all monsters, but Iceborne's Tigrex and Zinogre had smaller openings and Rajang in general is more-or-less broken due to speed and deceptive hitboxes. Anomalies require DPS optimization but they're not too different from their base forms (Apexes the exception since they were base Rise exclusive), and that's without learning switch skill usage. I don't know what it is about Iceborne that made me return so easily to it over Sunbreak. Maybe switch skills were a too generous gift for most hunters.

Believe me when I say, everyone knows. That, and the fact it has so good dps has not made it famous for nothing. Actually, the fact almost every single weapon has a counter in Sunbreak kind of ruins it for me. I enjoyed the games more when each weapon had its own unique things it could do, instead of every weapon being able to do anything.

@@IronKingify The Switch Skill system in Rise is honestly a really good system, but I can imagine it'd be hell to implement a bunch of skills for EVERY weapon. I loved Aerial style in Generations (being able to launch off a monster then crash down on its head from above), but they had a total of six combat styles that players could choose from as well as an early version of switch skills that needed to charge in combat. In World, I'd constantly find walls to run up, ledges to jump off, and inclines to slide down to do as many aerial attacks as I could, always having the skills that make aerial attacks stronger. In Rise, the sliding is awful (most places that should slide don't and the few places that do are so few and far between that they screw up the attack you were PLANNING on doing), but being able to use wirebugs to launch myself around the place is great. A well-timed bug can be a dodge and a counterattack in one. You can knock monsters out of the air when they'd otherwise be unreachable. I can't say whether World or Rise's combat is better because they're so different, but both great.
