ak220880 well there just needs to be discipline that's all, and they must install young blood into the police force since the youth of India is far more dynamic and energetic compared to the currently working police staff of all cadre. The youth is the answer to many things in our nation at least. We are highly educated, full of energy and frankly speaking not so greedy for money or power like our ancestors were/are, including those in higher positions right now. As far as the procedures and technical know-how is concerned, that can only come out of curiosity to learn more and apply newer methods into whatever sphere of activity you're in, more so if you're an investigating agency. Our current mindset in the Government is that when you have cheap labor then why not use the man power to get the job done, but relying on humans causes only more doubts, we must now rely on the technology and be more smart with whatever is ahead of us, that's how we can beat the challenges that India faces today. If it was to me I would terminate all the old police staff with huge pot bellies and who have no strength or desire to run even half a mile. Young people must get into the police, they must be given harder and more enhanced training, they must be fit and tough, both externally and internally, reliable and newer weapons must be provided to the police and task force, so they can deal with situations like Mumbai 2008 attacks better. So there are a lot of changes to be made and i can only wish Indian government outsourced these type of jobs to the private companies. At least the recruitment of police can be done by a private agency, right? That's how the entire IT and Financial sector get their gems. I think we must bring some change in this nearly 70 year old dictatorship of old and saggy people at the highest form of our Government.

shikhar s i dont think, by just changing new staff things will change too much. There is need of changes in procedural level, investigation level, technological level, funding level, selection level. For example i think there sud be 3 different independent agencies like city watch or order maintaing, crime report maintaining, and crime investigation, as all of them require seperate skills and experince and experties. Also if we merge these 3 function into one, police simply refuse to take reports just to remove extra work burden and to show better city order. Investigator is suppose to be man of technology & technique & court reporter and we sud not expect them to run like city order maintainer. Also all officer sud be selected only at base level, thats way when they promote they will understand the problem of base officers. Selection & funding sud not entirely depend on written test and politicians. i dont think private recruiting agency has much to do with it, also i think involving private party (whose best interest lies in money, not on order) will not be good thing. funds sud be released appropriately not too much not too less. Similarily, judiciary also require changes at procedural level, selection, funding etc.

So called eminent lawyers in the panel are so hypocritical. This case can't be a eyeopening case. This is happening last 60 years continuously; rich and powerful persons get justice (they many times do injustice to poor people through court) within few hours and they all forget sometime after. Every Time this type of lawyers and eminent people come in media and say poor people should get justice like this and it is an eye opening case. They know very-very well that this can never happen to poor people. This type of hypocritical people are very very responsible for such situation.

I am really stunned by the paradoxical statements made by Salman's fans. On one hand they say that Salman's lawyers severely mishandled the case, which is why he got such a harsh punishment, and Salman had no idea of his lawyer's incompetence. But on the other hand after he gets bail within hours, the same fans argue that Salman's lawyers are so great that they can work miracles. Seems to me like his lawyers are amazing at their job, they understand the judicial system and it's loopholes, which is why they let the judgement be passed at this point. They just want to buy time so that the memories and in turn the evidences of the case become so muddled after a few decades that no one would care about justice anymore. Long live Indian Judiciary.

I think If courts and system have worked this way, than justice wud have come very early: 1st - there sud be different department or agency for before crime and after crime or crime investigation. So, that crime investigation team fastly collect evidences professionally specialized way before those evidences become meaningless. 2nd - judges and advocates sud be specialized in particular type of cases, so that they cud work fast. 3rd - both prosecution and defence sud be given half time, one can pass his time to other if he feel he have nothing to say at that point. Instead of linear approach of 1st prosecution than defence. 4rth - in start first both of prosecution and defence need to explain crime scence and set relevant ppl & evidences of case. 5th - court produced all the witness or relevant ppl to speak their side story of incident. and if time allows than both prosecution and defence have to start their proceedings, there only. 6th - prosecution and defence sud produce their story, evidences and they cud ask witnesses only one more time or day for cross questioning. So, a witness wud not have to be produced more than 3 times, unless there is very very exceptional specific situation arises. 7th - both accused & accusser given chance to speak. 8th - case & proceeding analyses & verdict given. 9th - Only limited fix number of cases cud be transfered from lower to higher court through appeal that to with strong reason. 10th - Higher court need to analyze appeal. They need to take only fix number of appeals. IF they pass appeal, than they sud also have to fix that who is responsible for dragging any valid relavant point and sud punish (or decrease some points from some point system) responsible party. 11th - higher court need not to repeat all the proceedings. They cud read earlier proceedings of lower court and just discuss missed or conflicting portion. Then, proceeds as lower court. Fine and compensation need to settle by judge with discussing relevant party and their claims. Judge need to analyse nature of crime and financial position of accused before settling any claim, so that poor ppl need not to suffer. Goverment need to release seperate independent fund for courts & police. Each case sud have atleast 3 meetings in a month till it completed (this frequency cud be increased based on time & situation requirement), or delay only if some specific time based event is required to be happen. This will also decide how much judges actully required.

Idiot, the system wants to work at speed for everyone but the number is such huge that there has to be a queue. How can lakhs of people get a hearing at the same time. Aryaman Sundaram! Usually I appreciate your stance...and it is good to to state the obvious once in a while, but here I have to say that you are pontificating with little practical value. The issue here is not one of getting quick legal justice for everyone. Those are obvious needs which no logical person will even consider an issue up for debate. The issue here is very much how Salman availed himself of 'the proper/perfect proceedings' of justice; showing up the system to be one of obvious favouritism. This is the bigger issue, where we seen a judicial system bend backwards to accomodate the comforts of a VIP when atleast outwardly the judiciary should actively seek to not even APPEAR to show favouritism. Seeing this debate every logical person in India knows that lakhs of cases will not be solved how much you preach from a pulpit. However we will stand up against this inequality in proceedings and handling of cases based on wealth or power. Also each time i see a filmi character on the newshour, I am struck by how little true education they have received. No concepts of basic justice, law or even sympathy for the masses. This guy on the debate is like a male Marie Antoinette. Beware Rohit Roy, the French revolution will be repeated again very much if you people continue to hold such an entitled standpoint.

Duh! it's was a sensible debate but held from a stupid angle, if someones works there asses off and has money, they have all the right s and liberties to employ the best senior counsels to represent them as they have earned that money to help them in their rough times, opening this speedy justice debate from the haves and have nots standpoint is like comparing someone having a mercedes and someone riding a bicycle just to condemn luxury. The only thing that could be done is that the judiciary should treat everyone equally, the only thing that help Salman have his way in this case apart from the extraordinary legal help was coz they worked hard , had all documents ready and presented it in time before the bench, this does not happen in most cases as there are often lacunas in preparation. Condemning and putting down the courts for such hindrances is not right, but only if Arnab knew the legacy and extraordinaire of the Indian Judiciary. Salman has done so much good charity work in the past, his roots int he society are solid, he has both money to put up for bail and honest and legally verified people can vouch on his behalf that he wouldn't do anything the law prevents him from doing in case he is granted bail, these are the primary reasons he got such an early bail relief, and these reasons are subjective legally identified precedents of law which help the court in ascertaining whether to grant bail or not. Most other under trials like Arnab mentioned the guy who stole 200 bucks would have none of such prerequisites, hence how can we expect the court to grant him or other like him bail, when there is no reassurance of their integrity and respect towards law ?
