No way to fixing this young lady's boat it has 55 year old Detroit Diesel's. This boat was the WORST that I've seen in Key West. There is NO WAY I could work on it. Plus we worked on the air conditioning on a 168ft support ship had a submarine onboard and the mother ship was 160ft.
Watch as our team of experts meticulously assess, disassemble and restore the these boat/yacht projects. Join us in our journey to prove that with hard work, dedication and a little bit of magic, anything is possible. Don't forget the best compliment is to leave a comment and subscribe to our channel for more incredible boat projects!

Had to say NO way to helping this poor young lady and the unfortunate part is she has to have her boat running to stay in the marina. What would you have done? The boat has 55 yr old motors and IMO way too much liability for our company!

That old guy that owns the old Bug might just be the guy who can fix the lady’s Detroits. He will also be the guy who has told you how many times he has changed lead acid batteries even though he services them regularly. That’s why he’s the guy who upgraded to LiFePo batts. A slight change in the charging profile is all you need, and you will never change batteries again. As for Ray,Cors and algae … if you have algae, you should probably do fuel polishing and tank cleaning. Algicide works good if your tank is already clean, because it will keep it that way. But if you have algae on your tank walls, algicide will break it loose and you will be changing Racors and primaries forever. As for super yachts, money is never an issue, so make sure you charge accordingly. Retired tugboat Engineer here, who loves old 2-cycle Detroit diesels and old bugs and split window buses.

I use lead acid for my starter battlers and house battery, but lithium for my Rhodan spot lock. I would like to use lithium for my house battery as well, but I understand lithium batteries confuse the rectifier regulator on the alternator. It can’t tell when to stop charging the lithium battery and ends up frying the alternator.

I really like your KZbin videos because more boaters need to understand it's not a car? It needs more maintenance you just can't hop on a boat turn the key and run for certain things you have to do. I always just scratch my head why these people keep abusing their watercraft this way. Like with fuel I've always had dual large capacity rancor water separators filters for a reason the first one's going to get most of the bad stuff the second one will get the stuff to pass us through the first one double redundancy very important. Same thing your fuel tanks if you got diesel I've always put a good diesel additive into my diesel just for growth to stop it. When I've had gas boats I've put rancor filters on my gas boat too. I always tell her buddy the difference is that you want to have big fan system for your gas boat first thing I was taught with operating a gas boat is the second you come on that boat first thing you do after turning the power on is turning on your blowers and waiting 10 minutes at the minimum and open your hatches and smelling around. I want to go kaboom. With my friends that have sailboats they're the worst when it comes to babying their engines they don't. I reminded a few of my friends I told them that they want their engines to last first thing that got to do is run their engines put it in idle and let it warm up the operating temp and then bring it up to about a thousand RPMs and just run it for a few minutes five maybe 10 minutes and then bring back to idle for a couple minutes before you shut it off because most voters that have sailboats run their engines for 5 minutes they don't get the thing the operating temperature and then they shut it off quickly that's not good. It's all about teaching people. Like with my aluminum skiff I have I have a western aluminum skiff 18 ft great skiff I also have filters on that for my outboards I also have a bilge pump on that too it's all about making sure you're vessel will run forever if you take care of it properly

Years ago I paddled a kayak through a marina. Just passed a boat at the fueling dock (maybe 100 ft away) when most of the back of the boat was blown to pieces. They had just bought the boat and were apparently told it had a fuel leak. The owner didn't survive the blast, his wife was on the pier. Not sure all of her injuries.

I use 422B on top of or in place of R22. You lose about 10% efficiency, but it helps to extend the use of R22 equipment if it in good enough shape. The last bottle I purchased (St. Louis area) -$150 and now it is $450..If my math is correct that is 300% inflation!

Detroit’s are great motors but it’s true finding a mechanic is VERY hard to find. I’m in frame rebuild on my own having trained myself. Mine are 6v92. It’s a shame but in reality there are very few real mechanics anymore… it’s all plug and play…digital part swapping. A huge problem is the is no real manufacture support anymore parts for legacy motors are near impossible to get from the OEM.mthey want $100 add on for any order if you want it with in a month..otherwise it’s wait and see. There are aftermarket sources…they are much better. Mechanic wise there are lots of hucksters that will tell you they know…but more than likely they don’t. I have spent more time backing up than moving forward but lots of reading manuals and there are some really good Detroit mechanics on KZbin. So information is out there. But for a lady with no mechanic knowledge it’s a walk away or donate. Detroit diesel dealer is a joke anymore.
