@JesseJames-wj8ft7 жыл бұрын
Raw video lol, well thanks for that I am now convinced, no way that raw video on youtube could have ever been faked ! Question - Whats your theory why a coin from 1831 was inside a jar from the mid 1900's ?
@DarkusZarvix7 жыл бұрын
Just a very novice opinion, but someone buried it to prevent it from being stolen and never came back for it? Or someone was supposed to come pick it up for a discreet payment and never did? I kind of feel like the first theory makes more sense.
@JesseJames-wj8ft7 жыл бұрын
You are missing the point. This coin was valuable and collectable well before the jar was made.Do you put valuable stuff in a jar and bury it very often ? Not just that, the 1 hand suddenly shaking like a leaf while the other was steady and the 98 "OMG DUDE !" are just plain theatrical.
@DarkusZarvix7 жыл бұрын
Well, they found something pretty cool. I'd be excited too. You realize that some people collected coins back then and didn't want anyone to take it, so they buried it for safety. The age of the jar doesn't matter if the person buried it in the mid 1900's. you have to remember that people ages ago didn't have safes or a bank account to lock stuff up. To me, it makes sense and I am willing to give them benefit of the doubt.

The white glass container this coin was found in........I strongly believe that container to be what was known as "milk glass". Back in 1910-ish maybe even up to the 1940s it was used widely for women's products like face cream. make-up, etc. WHICH BRINGS ME to my theory. The coin was buried some time between 1910 and 1940. It was probably a prized family heirloom that someone was in such fear of it being stolen that they buried it. There is no way it was actually buried in the 1830s....not it that type container. The person who buried it probably died in the 1st or second war.... and the secret died with them. (I was a metal detector buff years ago for about a 15 year stretch....starting in the late 1970s.) I am so happy for your find___!!!!!!!

@@diggingne4905 Thats GREAT........see if you can get it appraised "by a "reputable" coin dealer. Ask them what the "retail" selling price would be and what they would offer you as a dealer. Also I would go over that entire area with a fine tooth comb. Seeing that you found something really valuable I would actually "grid" the area, you know mark areas off with some sticks in the ground and string in 6 foot square areas just so you know the areas you already covered, ALSO, an old timers trick is.... if you can go over the same area with a "different "brand" metal detector". Different brands circuitry can sometimes find things another brand didn't. GOOD LUCK...I hope you find a big stash someday

I was 7 years old, my Italian Grand-Father gave me a bag of coins from the 1800's maybe earlier 1700's so for safe keeping, I buried all the coins. And I know where they are, I buried all the coins in my neighbor's front lawn under their balcony I am 60 years old today, so... very good chance the coins are still there, buried for 53 years. How do I ask for the property owners permission to dig up dirt under his balcony without telling him what I am digging up? I cannot just go digging, he might call the cops, Hello Police there is a 60 yr old man in my front lawn digging it up, can you send a car? This video jogged my memory, Old Coins, Buried with a cloth, 1800's coin, WHAM the light came on and made me think of the old coins my grand-father gave me when I was 7 years old

Hello DiggingNE I bet there are thousands upon thousands of these little caches buried in the past in (many) wooded places like this by hard-times, depression-era(or before) families or individuals but all this demolition, grading, bulldozing, 'modernization, destroying of whole tracts of woodlands is probably smashing these kinds of potential finds to smitherenes and I'm sure a lot will be lost and paved back over, unfortunately. Just makes one mad as heck and also sad as well. Just being able to get out into woods like you guys did here and simply be able to enjoy the outdoors, the solitude, (and) the peace and quiet cannot be put a price on. Used to be able to MD in these kinds of settings many, many years ago but there's no one MD'ing much anymore so when one goes out, he/she has to pretty much go alone. So un-enjoyable and actually it gets really depressing. You guys, I'm (SO) glad for you finding this extreme one-in-a-million find. Also, please don't ever take your partnership for granted because I'd give my right arm to have a partner (as well as), have truly, any good places to hunt anymore because unfortunately, both seem to be in short supply these days as everyone seems to distracted and/or too busy being (too) busy to do any md'ing anymore. Also guys, be on the lookout for the old dumps in woods like this which, if you find rusty cans and bits of glass and other debris on top of the ground, is usually a telltale sign that there are potentially valuable, old bottles, plates, silverware, marbles, possibly coins and many other things just under the surface. Bring you a good, solid Razorback potato digger and get to clawing away. You guys would be (amazed) and excited by what you might find. Poison bottles and some soda bottles can fetch $45 and upwards. The cobalt blue skull poison bottle with p o i s o n written in white on the front near the neck of the bottle is worth $700 (plus). Some whiskey flasks from the 30's are worth $50 or more. The triangular amber poisons are worth $30-$75 bucks. Depression glass plates and bowls are worth a lot too if in one piece. The amber and honey amber fruit jars as well as the "cornflour" blue ones can be worth $75, plus. If you find the Woodbury fruit jars with the monogram on the front, they are worth appx. $30. Good luck guys and Happy Hunting !!! PrairieG.

I just started detecting… I went to the beach once and found lobster trap pieces and a key… and today in my yard I found 3 dimes, 3 Pennie’s, some metal scraps, a metal band to a whiskey barrel and a shot gun bullet butt circa 1911-1930

@glennrishton56796 жыл бұрын
Assuming that is a real and old coin in nearly new condition a little water spritz is better than wiping off the dirt. Wiping can leave very faint scratches which diminish the value.

There is no way you can tell on a youtube video what it's worth. You have no idea the fine nuances of coin appraising . One tiny "mint mark" could mean the difference between $125. and $12,000. Even how many feathers that are on an eagles tail on one coin can mean thousands of dollars more. You know NOTHING

silver will never corrode. if anything, it will change color but not being buried in dirt

In those days they used oilcloth to save things in the weather. I'm guessing that was oil impregnated also.
@99goat996 жыл бұрын
Respectfully, that is not true. Silver most certainly WILL deteriorate over time. First, it oxidizes (tarnish). That process eventually turns it black and crusty. The silver oxide slowly replaces the silver. If there is salt or sulfides present in the environment in which the silver item is stored (or buried, etc), this process is accelerated. If you've ever seen silver coins recovered from brackish water (i.e. the ocean), such as Spanish pieces of Eight (8 Reales), you've seen the black crusty lumps of silver coins stuck together. When they show you carefully restored coins later, you're seeing the ones on the INSIDE of that clump, that were salvagable. The outer crusty ones are often damaged beyond identification.
