"Ladies and gentlemen, I am to talk to you about energy in the future. I will start by telling you why I believe that the energy resources of the past must be supplemented. First of all, these energy resources will run short as we use more and more of the fossil fuels. But I would like to mention another reason why we probably have to look for additional fuel supplies. And this, strangely, is the question of contaminating the atmosphere. Whenever you burn conventional fuel, you create carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is invisible, it is transparent, you can’t smell it, it is not dangerous to health, so why should one worry about it? Carbon dioxide has a strange property. It transmits visible light but it absorbs the infrared radiation which is emitted from the earth. Its presence in the atmosphere causes a greenhouse effect It has been calculated that a temperature rise corresponding to a 10 per cent increase in carbon dioxide will be sufficient to melt the icecap and submerge New York. All the coastal cities would be covered, and since a considerable percentage of the human race lives in coastal regions, I think that this chemical contamination is more serious than most people tend to believe. At present the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has risen by 2 per cent over normal. By 1970, it will be perhaps 4 per cent, by 1980, 8 per cent, by 1990, 16 per cent [about 360 parts per million, by Teller’s accounting], if we keep on with our exponential rise in the use of purely conventional fuels. By that time, there will be a serious additional impediment for the radiation leaving the earth. Our planet will get a little warmer. It is hard to say whether it will be 2 degrees Fahrenheit or only one or 5. But when the temperature does rise by a few degrees over the whole globe, there is a possibility that the icecaps will start melting and the level of the oceans will begin to rise. Well, I don’t know whether they will cover the Empire State Building or not, but anyone can calculate it by looking at the map and noting that the icecaps over Greenland and over Antarctica are perhaps five thousand feet thick." Years ago, when I was very young, I was reading the predictions about Earth changes by Edgar Cayce, who was a seer during the first half of the 20th century. My first reaction was, "Wow! I want to see these things!" Regarding sea level rising, floods, catastrophic weather changes, etc. Then I caught myself short when I realized the destructions, sufferings and deaths that would come with them and decided I didn't want to witness these things. But, here I am! Cayce predicted these changes back in the 1930's and 40's before science began validating what he saw. (Cayce passed away in mid to late 1940's.) And things will get much, much worse if mankind doesn't make changes. I can only hope more people, especially those in charge, takes these Earth changes seriously. Otherwise, we are in for a very rough ride.

The scientists are not wrong ... Those events are very hard to time correctly. At the same time they do not wish to be alarmist and pesimistic. I live near some glaciers in Europe (CH) and all have reversed direction (gone back!) the direcion of flow, for many kilometers. But that is not the worst reduction in ice volume ! At the same the thickness has been reduced by 50% over the entire surface surfies of the glaciers which represents a much larger volume of ice.

Milankovitch cycles operate separately and together to influence Earth's climate over very long timespans. There isn’t anything that will stop the Earth from changing itself.

Here is what will happen. People in coastal areas will see their insurance go through the roof or not even be able to get insurance. Without insurance there are no bank loans. Without bank loans homes deteriorate till they crumble, without loans you can not sell your home. Big developers will get bailed out. Renters will get a tent further up the beach fronts. Beaches will stink, tourists will not visit. Buildings will collapse. Congress members will take more money from developers so that they can keep scamming people into buying their beech front properties. Finally cities will have to move, just like Jakarta.

Can't wait for the whining of all the deniers from the last decades to start. Someone should write an "I have been telling you so for decades" song. Just to be prepared.

Considering the US has pumped out more CO2 historically than any other country they should be the most responsible for helping poor countries to adapt. And expecting China & India to altruistically give up on developing their nations & cutting carbon releases is totally unrealistic & unfair. The west should be stepping forward with drastic measures to cut their own carbon output with planned cooperation with the rest of the world. trump set things back dramatically, but the world must still try.

‘There Was Blood Everywhere’: Six Kids Reported Dead After Overnight U.S. Raid in Syria. Pentagon Confirms Women and Children Dead in U.S. Special Forces Syria Raid. Four children, two women and seven men were reportedly killed during the two-hour exchange which reportedly left behind blood-stained walls and “scattered” body parts. U.S. troops were also forced to blow up one of their own helicopters in a controlled explosion during the operation after it experienced a mechanical failure. This would have been to prevent it falling into terrorist hands, as happened when U.S. forces left up to 167 aircraft, including 33 Black Hawk helicopters for the Taliban to commandeer after President Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal in August 2021.
@WJV92 жыл бұрын
I think you mean President Donald Trump who signed withdrawal in Feb. 2020 and drew down troops to 2500 in December 2020 so it would be a disaster for Democratic president.
