Hi Noah, I got into your playing via Chad, and I'm very impressed. I'm a long-time sax player trying to improve my piano playing, and I love neo soul. I'm a big fan of Glasper and Moonchild, and your content is perfect.

Also I notice on the first voicing you describe it as a Cmaj7#11 but you break it down by adding the 9 at the top and missing out the maj7. Do you vary it and swap between adding either the B or the D?

Second, thanks for the arpegiation of the right hand notes tip at 1:50 ish, I should know that but it seemed better when you did i it. I liked those licks around 4:36 maybe a future video suggestion on some licks for Neo Soul. Great video, I'm gonna spend some time slow moing this one.

hi Noah, this is an amazing video, I'm not used to voicing chords like this so I have one question, how do you go about maintaining some form of cohesion while going from one chord to another? do you use inversions or can I just move around the voicing to whatever chord without it sounding weird? thank you

Hey Antonio, technically it would be the 7th mode of the Melodic Minor scale, which is the Altered Scale (also known as Super Locrian).

Why does the first chord (C maj 7#11) not include the 7?
@NoahKellman4 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, in this case I would say that the 7 is implied since we have 9 and #11. In my opinion, every voicing doesn't have to contain every note below as long as it's not somehow changing the harmonic implication. Make sense?

@@NoahKellman ok, first one: how to grow larger hands? ;- ) I'm an absolute beginner, I just watch and play more advanced stuff because I don't want to start with Für Elise and children songs. First thing I tried was No Quarter. I am on it. Learning where to put my fingers and memorizing is the biggest challenge, I am a drummer and have already some good timing. I just never needed to know scales and modes and such things. a whole new world. your video just saved me 4 weeks of trial and error and feeling stupid. it's fun this way. learning to play chords as arpeggios teaches 2 things at once if not more. which fingers go where and when, independence, fluid movement. things I wouldn't pick up on with normal lessons in 6 months. Thank you!
