I feel like the main difference is on how the girls handle the pain vs the guys. Even when the girls said it hurt they still kept smiling and sitting normally while the guys cramped up their whole body. As a girl you just have to live with it when you have cramps, you might feel like hell but you still have to do your everyday businesses

When I worked retail I just went in like this lol. Walking it off kiiiinda helps?? Not really lol. One time I was working either Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve, I can’t remember. It was the closing shift and my period suddenly came on early and much worse than usual. Since my sis also worked at the same place and was off that day, I called to see if she could fill in just for the next few hours until closing. We even had family over that neither of us liked much, so I figured she’d want to get away anyway. No one else was available. Nope. She just let me suffer for hours dying at work. Even my coworkers pitied me. I have since forgiven her, but I have NOT forgotten.

@ernstnaumann6318 Ай бұрын
@KeitieKalopsia What does dying mean if you're alive years later? Did that afternoon of working in severe pain probably shorten your lifespan by hours, days or even months or years? So your coworkers noticed you were in severe pain. How did they notice. Were you unable to smile it away towards them? Did you choose not to smile it away towards them? Were you able to advise a few customers to their satisfaction? Did any customers notice you were in severe pain?

I was told my whole period experience was normal (I started at nine, which should have been hint number one) Later on, about age 11 (10 at earliest), I had periods anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks long, along with extra high pain, which is most likely off the scale. We almost went to hospitals for it because I physically couldn’t move. Went on the pill to even it out when i was, like, twelve, but by the time I was thirteen, almost fourteen in January, I had to go off to regulate my body. Two days in, I was feeling what would be a twenty on the simulator. Day three, twenty five/six. Day four, about forty, and refusing to eat unless it was my comfort food, which I was allergic to. There started eating issues ❤️❤️

I am the only woman in my family who has period cramps or any symptoms at all, really. I must have gotten it from my dad. My sister and aunt sympathize and understand and support me, but my mom thinks that I have them because I must be living a bad lifestyle (bad sleep schedule, bad diet, not enough exercise, bad breathing????) and that if I fixed all of that, I’d have no pain and no symptoms. I was not allowed painkillers until my late teens when my complaining finally wore them down and my dad got them for me. It’s truly incredible that my whole family has no period pain. I’m a bit of a masochist, though, so a little pain doesn’t bother as long as I have Midol at hand when I’ve put up with enough of it. It only works like 50% of the time, though.

Having suffered with endometriosis my whole life, getting a hysterectomy was one of the best decisions I ever made. I was in the ER nearly every month going into shock and nearly losing consciousness from the pain. Doctors STILL were hesitant to do it even though I have 4 kids, and it took a uterine prolapse to get them to do it. Ladies and gentlemen, please don't ever downplay the pain your woman is feeling. It should never be that bad, but it is, and it's very, very real. Kudos to these dudes willing to subject themselves to a piece of the pain.
@melindamercier6811
@melindamercier6811 2 жыл бұрын
So sorry to hear that. To be fair, a lot of women don’t fully understand what a hysterectomy does to them hormonally. And It can be really damaging to them psychologically if they are unprepared for the consequences. Because it’s such a life-changing and invasive surgery, doctors will always push back to be sure the patient understands the gravity of it.

Sending you huge, but gentle, hugs. You are *SO FREAKIN' STRONG!* Honestly, I don't know how you managed to get through that kind of pain for such a significant amount of your life. And all while raising four kids! So many people don't understand what it feels like to get the kind of cramps that you had. A friend of mine once described it as having a hot poker jammed up the rectum. That sounded about right to me. I was extraordinarily lucky to only land in the ER once from endometriosis cramps. It blows my mind that you had to live with the awful anticipation of having to go through that kind of agony *every month!* In my case, we knew endometriosis runs in the family, so my mom and her ob/gyn took me seriously. The ob/gyn confirmed the diagnosis surgically, started me on birth control, and gave me meds to help take the edge off the pain when the cramps were at their worst (this was in 1995, when doctors prescribed pain meds to those who needed them). I had a Grade 3 uterine prolapse several years ago. None of my doctors had seen a prolapse in someone so young who had never been pregnant. 😆 We didn't know then that the prolapse was a symptom of the genetic disorder I hadn't yet been diagnosed with. I searched for and found a doctor who would perform a surgery that's used in the UK to repair a prolapse without a hysterectomy or the use of mesh. I would have chosen a hysterectomy if I hadn't gotten acceptable relief from the cramps with my Mirena IUD. Anyway, the only reason I'm explaining any of this is because I have a very faint inkling of the hell you've survived because of my own experiences. I can also imagine how you were treated in the ER during some of those visits. Hospital staff aren't always terribly compassionate to people who have extreme pain. Though I understand why they become jaded, it's still upsetting to be in agony, need help, and to get punished for other people's choices, instead. I'm so happy for you that you'll never have to endure another round of endometriosis cramps, but I'm sorry that it took so long and a significant surgery for you to live without that pain. 💙

I very much disagree with these period and labor simulators. They make mens bodies do things they aren't designed to do. Of course it's going to be excruciating for them. Periods should NOT be excruciating or debilitating. My first bit of advice to everyone who is experiencing excruciating pain or debilitating pain is to first change your diet. See a nutritionist. Get your vitamins and mineral levels checked. If that's not the problem, see a doctor.

I don’t tend to get much cramping after the first day so I lucked out and don’t understand how it is for even average peridods! But I have strong hormonal mood swings before and during: people always think that means I just cry ha. I don’t cry much, but I feel very irritated, lonely/depressed, hyper focusing on tasks, insomnia. PMDD has been thrown about lately, but so many drs over the years just said PMS is normal, cuz women are overreacting clearly 🙄 anything related to women’s health is minimized or we are infantilized, even by women doctors and nurses!

@@tarnw3301 My entire family doesn’t experience cramps or any symptoms at all. I am the only one. This seems to have instilled a mindset in my mom that the only reason I have these cramps must be because I am living a bad lifestyle, not getting enough nutrients or sleep or oxygen or exercise, etc. For the first few years she refused to let me take painkillers because “it’ll make your cramps worse in the long run.” Eventually my dad just got me them. At least my sister and aunt are sympathetic toward me about it. To them, it seems extreme that I feel like I eat knives every month and get so nauseous that hearing footsteps or moving a finger makes me want to vomit. It’s not even bad compared to other women because I only get it for 1-2 days while some, like my aunt’s old college roommate, get incapacitated for a whole week. Never let my mom meet those people.

AND you water bloat, so your clothes feel tighter. It kind of sucks all around and it happens for a good 1/5 of your every single month. I feel like this experience for the people in the video gives the boys a new perspective on how much the girls tolerate, having to, or feeling obligated to act normal, having to hear things like, "this is normal, stop acting weird." I really get mad when the PE teachers force us to run laps, do jumping jacks, or other things like this on the time of the month. And while in this game, you can 'tap out' but in real life if you want to give up, you have to wait 7 (around) days. I still remember my first period, I was in the restroom the whole day, crying my eyes out. I was really unused to it, and at the time I think I remember drinking something cold, so it REALLY hurt... Only found out what it was the next day when I mentioned it to my mother. She and the doctor both lectured me that I should have called an ambulance. "It can't be that bad" - Colby's famous last words 🤣 Now imagine having that all day for 4-7 days or even longer every month😭 Edit: 4 months after my comment, I'm writing this edit (more like a novella) because I started tracking my period cramps. About 3-4 days before my period starts, my cramps are usually at their worst. It's not that bad, but I feel like a sharp needle is poking my lower belly every few minutes. When my period starts, the pain isn't unbearable on its own (if I focus on it for like 10 seconds), but the problem is that it DOES NOT stop for at least 5 days. So, while the pain isn't too bad, having it every second of every day makes me want to take my eyes out. Then, on the 6th and 7th day of my period, it's fine. My period has always lasted 7 days, no more, no less. Now, my sister has endometriosis, and I cannot imagine the pain she must be going through. So, as I like to feel like an impostor (sarcasm of course), I just don't talk about my pain and try to live with it, cause that's what everyone else does.

@@KaivalaJenva Can confirm. I have adenomyosis which is like endometriosis on steroids. My cramps start a few days before I even bleed and its constant. Periods can last anywhere from 5-12 days for me and sometimes I end up getting it twice in the same month. Have been told my level of pain is comparable to giving birth. Adenomyosis made me infertile too so. Yep. I've taken hardcore painkillers given to me by the hospital before and they hardly take the edge off. Most girls/women go undiagnosed like I did with thinks like we mentioned, cysts, fibroids or things like pcos for nearly their entire lives and suffer because we always get told that's how its supposed to be and suck it up. It isn't. If you have heavy periods and your cramps are so bad you throw up and have trouble moving around go to the doctor. Do not listen to anyone trying to tell you its normal. Its not. And they can help you. For me it progressed to the point the only option I have left is to have a hysterectomy. I went undiagnosed until I was 25 and was able to see a doctor on my own. And even then it took me seeing 4 different doctors to be taken seriously.

I thought this was hilarious. You guys actually had it easy. All you had to do was sit there, for a few minutes with that type of pain. If you TRULY want to experience what we women experience with menstrual cramps, try that device on 4-7, THEN GO ABOUT YOUR DAY. Drive with it, run errands with it, vacuum the whole house with it, stand there doing dishes. Go to work and DO your work with that thing on all day. Eat your meals, sit quietly and watch tv, or read, or do whatever it is you do. Have a normal conversation that doesn't include the pain you are in. If you normally run, or go to the gym, then do it with that device on. Don't forget to sleep with it on, too! Use that device, non-stop, for AT LEAST 3 days. ONLY THEN will you have an inkling of what we women experience EVERY MONTH. I say an inkling, because you are only dealing a part of the pain. You aren't dealing with the bloating, the discomfort that is separate from the pain. You aren't having to deal with the actual discharge, or the slight nausea that can also accompany that pain. You are also not dealing with the hormonal changes that also come with a menstrual period. You aren't dealing with the headaches that can also come with a menstrual period. These are all things that we women face every month... a lot of times with men making fun of us, thinking our menstrual periods are a joke... making light of them, like it's just an excuse for us to be mean, or get hysterical. I'm not trying to demean you, please don't think that I am. I just hope to make you understand that the pain simulator you experienced for a few moments does not truly compare to what it feels like to have a menstrual period.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but using those pain simulators for a few minutes, and thinking they actually understand what it's like to have menstrual cramps?!? It was actually demeaning to women, if you truly think about it, not that I believe that was their intention. Men do have a tendency to demean and belittle women when it comes to menstrual periods. It can be debilitating for some women, not all of us, and not all the time. If I've made you think about it, and given you some understanding, and perhaps compassion the next time you come across a woman dealing with her menstrual period, then I've accomplished what I set out to do. :)

@@sdmcdaniel2255 Hard to not feel that way when apparently twelve year old girls can go all the way up to level 9 on this thing (as said by one of the comments here) without flinching, meanwhile most guys can barely handle mid level without crying like wussies. I mean damn, are we that weak? Also, never once mocked women on their periods, nor belittled them.

@sdmcdaniel2255 Жыл бұрын
@@str8apem88 I didn't say you did :) But a lot of men out there do. I've been on the receiving end of that mockery many times. Men are not weak, just because they can't handle the pain we women do. You have to realize, the first time, or even the first few times we women go through a menstrual period... we don't handle it well, at all. I remember my very first. I was in high school, 14, and even though I knew what was happening (after a bit) it scared me witless! I knew what it was, I knew why it was happening, but there were so many things I wasn't told. Like how much it could hurt! The nausea, the headaches, the way my skin and clothes felt tight because of the bloating. How long the pain lasted. But after dealing with it for a few months, I got used to it. That's where our strength lies... we handle it, because we have to, and because we get used to it. Women's strength is the strength to endure. Men's strength is to be proactive. I don't know what kind of work you do, but men have the strength to do jobs that most women couldn't do. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. God made us to compliment each other.... not compete with each other...

@@str8apem88It's not that you're weak, it's just a pain you've never had to deal with before almost every month of your life. That's the difference. At some point for us women, we just have to deal with it even if it hurts like hell.

If you want a true depiction.. You need them low tummy, low back and inside thighs so it radiates thru the groin. You can leave it on 4 so you have consistent low grade pain and then periodically bump it to 7or 8 for half a minute so you can have the sensation of clots moving through tubes. That's no joke. You get used to low grade constant but those clots can make you lose your breath, get dizzy and nauseous... My mom passed out from it a few times when I was a kid.

You have to go about your day, sometimes lift heavy things, deal with stress etc. Also, periods are not just cramps, there's also acne, bloating, headaches, backaches, diarrhea, breast tenderness, not to mention you always have to worry about pads or tampons, leaking or wearing white. And above it all people will act condescending to you if you act on all those factors.

The level of pain I felt every month was the same level as the pain I experienced in the 2nd stage labour when giving birth both times. I would take strong pain relief and use several hot water bottles and just curl up with the pain. I didn't have endometriosis. I was always told my pain was 'normal'. I couldn't work while experiencing that amount of pain but almost every manager I had would insist I go to work and would get cross or irritated at me when I tried to explain the amount of pain I was in. I ended up having to lie about the reason I was 'off sick', as I'm sure many women do. This is a great video. Society needs to be more aware of what so many women go through, and being able to call in sick and say you have 'severe period pain' should be seen as acceptable.

I happen to have this exact TENS unit, so I tried it. I know my periods can be miserable, but wow... It was at 12, before it was something I would even consider cramping, and 20 was still maybe 20% of my worst cramps. I will say, those worst cramps lay me out whimpering, because crying might cause more pain 😂 This feels like a pinching tickle. Imagine rather an inch diameter pipe that reaches from lower abdominals to lower back, clamping to parts of your innards pulling it with as the pipe spins... then that pain radiates through your whole body.

Menstrual cramps are bad enough, but I had endometriosis for many years. I had intense pain & cramping for three out of four weeks a month. Finally had some treatments that helped for a while, had two kids (which was a blessing with endometriosis), Lupron injections , and finally in my early 40s had a total hysterectomy. Not a decision I wanted to make, but the best thing I did to improve the quality of my life. Even though I had that intense pain every day for 21 days, I still had to go to work and take care of my kids. At times I was taking 10 or 12 Advil a day. Anyway, I know there's a lot of women out there that suffer with cramps, but my mother always told me that it prepares you for childbirth.

When I got pregnant the first time I was super fit and my belly was like a rock. I. Couldn’t feel the contractions. If I really focused I was aware of the tightening in my thighs but was hardly noticeable. 4 pregnancy’s later I was exhausted and needing gas and air. These comments are all so accurate about there being more to periods than just the cramps - the nausea, the diarrhea, the mess, the headaches, bloating, hormone changes, etc. the cramps just barely scratch the surface on what it does to your body. Also, one thing I don’t see mentioned often but I think is still very important to remember too: HAVING A PERIOD COSTS MONEY! You are constantly having to buy pads/tampons and they aren’t cheap! You can get toxic shock syndrome if you wear them for too long so you are constantly having to change them. There’s also been a lot of toxic chemicals like lead and arsenic being found in these products. It doesn’t stop at just what your body goes through.

I wouldn't tap out of work until what I imagine an 11 or 12 would be- but I might still go depending on how much pain medication I take. My periods used to be extremely heavy before I started birth control to help with them, but I'd get extremely dizzy

While the pain is an important aspect, and this is a great experiment, it’s important to remember that women deal with more than just pain. It’s also large dips in energy and mood at certain times, and it can be exacerbated by stress, diet, various factors some of which are controllable and some not. It’s complex and would be great if more men understood how challenging it is to be a woman.

Something important to take into consideration is that really painful cramps are not typical. However, women with endometriosis or other reproductive struggles can have debilitating cramps that cause a multitude of symptoms. It also doesn't seem as though the simulator pads are in the proper places. Maybe try putting some on the lower abdomen near the groin and some on the lower back near the coccyx. That might feel more realistic.
