Yessir im glad to see that people know how to read between the lines. It has been imparative for Chomsky to be politically correct otherwise we would have lost him to suicide at an early age as well. Aaron was not naive either though he was well aware what he was up against and he gave his life they did not take it from him just like the union organizers of the past, what they did for us is the same that aaron did for us, the same jesus did for us, and the same that Madalyn Murray ohair did for us

@@globaldigitaldirectsubsidi4493 Yeah this life is strange have you ever listen to Alan Watts? I kind of take his posotion. Perhaps we are spirits that decided to take a break from that world so we created this reality and inserted ourselves inside for the sheer excitement and be something else for a while

Aaron Swartz is a better activist than Noam Chomsky. (I don't say that lightly) but Chomsky here is just plain wrong. Not only on the facts of what Swartz was doing, but also on copyright. Which is odd because he has spoken out against copyright on other occasions. Swartz was downloading them for his own personal use, consistent with the TOS, but they got him with circumstantial evidence (a manifesto saying he promotes publicizing information, and would do that, but that manifesto was in general and not about JSTOR) The overzealous DA and the FBI prosecuted, at the without the support of either MIT and JSTOR. (who admittedly should've stepped in much more.) What happened to Swartz was a tragedy, and humanity is in a much worse place today because of it. That is not how a nation should treat it's brightest minds. He should be exactly the kind of person who should lead, but in this sick world they "made him drink the hemlock" like Socrates.

A.S doesn't look like the kind of guy who was contemplating suicide. He wrote a blog essay about Batman just a day or two before his alleged suicide. Also hanging oneself from the shower doesn't seem very plausible, especially considering it was during a short period during which his girlfriend went out to get some food. He was dead upon her return. A.S writes about his fear of the secret service in his blog, that he fears they will come for him. He didn't take the plea bargain because he was ready to fight the case in court and get all the support he needs.

Technically you also get access to journals published in other countries, and most articles published in American journals are written by or in collaboration with academics from all over the world. But yeah, you could still find ways to make it work.

He copy and pasted open source documents with no copyright infringement, and jstor even refused to press charges yet our government insisted he be made an example of simply because he tried to create a comprehensive database that would prevent the prestigious world Science Festival from hosting a panel with the Leading minds in quantum biology and halfway through it when they got to this person he explained how he got the idea, the years it took to propose a study to his peers that would then get approved by an ivy league university to study. Built and currently operated was instantly ended when another one of the panelists happened to recall a single article hidden amongst many scientific Journals. publishing companies contained a study proving his theory wrong which even the online scientific journals case study numbers, you can't even use the simple word search and Aaron was attempting to fix that. A Geniuses lionblaze wasted four years, a university had their facilities dedicated to something that it already been proven false all because capitalism incentivizes they guard the rights to research results

Individualist Anarchist Benjamin Tucker (inspired by Proudhonist Mutualism) described the “four monopolies” from the State which protect the interests of certain classes of people that society should be rid of: the monopolies of money, land, tariffs, and patents.

I love the work of Noam Chomsky and i mostly agree with everything he said. But i don't think that getting rid of journals will leave us with no journals at all. Internet is the journal, we don't need institutions or private companies to publish our papers for us under a license. I think that the wikimedia foundation is a great example of that.

You don't need journals, you can simply publish your paper on your own website. Researchers don't get paid for publishing in journals by the journals anyway. So these journals are entirely pointless.

Jstor could have sold advertising. It was unconscionable what they did to that brilliant kid. Noam kind of glanced over what the legal system actually did to him. It was nothing less than a shake down. Apparently jstor is already publicly funded. The info belongs to the people already and Aaron knew that. They just shook him down because ppl were profiting from ppl’s ignorance. I think they were trying to make an example of him and provide a warning to others.
