@shankyxyz All I implied is that regardless of one's deeply held beliefs, a good dose of mistrust in gurus, saints, priests and all those who draw personal power from religion is to be greatly advised.

@willwak i can answer almost any undergrad level question. if its a grad level question, it depends which area. i work on calculus of variations and partial differential equations in general.go for it man. lol.i try to construct my opinions carefully ( the way chomsky does). i try to base it on scientific methods as best as i can. so whether you agree with my comments on this video or not plz dont accuse me of passing comments without thinking about it.

@shankyxyz Well ultimately one can retain many aspects of one's native culture without necessarily buying into religion. I'm from Italy and we still have a bit of traditional culture, and I think I was able to keep what I loved about it even after I very strongly rejected Catholicism. At some point, honestly, I simply could no longer accept the concept of faith in the supernatural, and I just had to drop it regardless of the consequences, but I certainly wouldn't force anyone to do the same.

I think that the destruction(mental) of religion is a major step for acheiving the goal of a stateless society. I disagree with Chomsky's ''let it be'' take on religion.

You can always tell a mechanical thinker by the number of "isms" they cite in a simplistic fashion. Chomsky is not one of those people. Many New Atheists (most?) are.

@DonVoghano The hunger for power will find its expression thru whatever is th current form of socioeconomicpolitical system, whether it is religion or liberal demoracy. in any case i am not arguing for religion.i am agreeing with chomsky in the sense that human social evolution is too complex and as a society in terms which i cant make clear, religion may have played a very important role in fashioning our society sctructurally.u guys are too caught up with detaisl. i am arguing the abstract.

i think my point was that human social and cultural evolution are so unique in the animal world that thinking of them in scientific terms somewhat misses the point. i keep seeing hitchens dawkins types railing against religion and speculating about god. imho the existense or otherwise is just a complete waste of time. on the contrary religion is much more important as a pathway for studying and participating in human cultural evolution.

@willwak also unlike u i have a lot of respect for sociologists. most things in the world(politics, economics etc) are not hard sciences. they are soft sciences which are not amenable to mathematical treatment. hell in reality even the method of investigation in physics is a soft science(ppl make conjectures and models in physics) though the method of validation is geneally a hard science. so u may want to gas someone but i have respect for sociologists.i am not a rational fundamentalist.

social Darwinism ?? what ?? maybe try to explain life trough Darwinist evolution not social Darwinism the concept of social Darwinism is condemned by most biologists and of course you can explain the overall religious phenomena trough Darwinist evolution second I've met Chomsky myself and sometimes he sounds like an anti-theist for example search his quotes on religion here on youtube

~sigh~ I was thinking a lot of Norm 'til this issue. Not atheists, nor Christians are at the intelligence level to see where the material and spiriritual connect. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin explained it well. Although it had some complicated words in it. Dictionary almost always helps.

well this stupid dawkins hitchens crowd go ou of their way to explain everything about society culture and especially religion thru social darwinism kind of arguments. that i think is very poor science and mostly propaganda. inspite of constant pushing by the interviewer Chomsky maintained his neutral position in terms of religion itself and also specified very clearly that most things about human social, cultural and thought evolution are mostly unresolved scientifically.
