I have a 2020 A5 Tdi Quattro and I’m very happy with it. I’ve tested the new one albeit front wheel drive and agree with you that it’s more refined and better sprung than my current car. I agree with you about the placement of the door handle - it’s not totally intuitive but you’d get used to it. The screens are a bit overkill but that seems to be the way and for the life of me I cannot understand why the aircon has been moved to touch screen. It’s way easier to twist a button/switch while driving than trying to prod a screen and much less distracting. The news that the boot on the Quattro will be smaller isn’t great either. Overall it’s a pretty nice car spoiled by the fact that to get it anywhere near the spec of my current A5 - you’re looking approximately €90k plus which is outrageous for a mid range car. Back in 2020 it cost just over €72k

I dont understand that touching your phone while driving is illegal. But touching these screens to adjust climate control or change settings isn't illegal..🤔🤔🤔🤔. And honestly speaking this car look but uglier than A5 2020 . OR 2018.. This design gives mix vibes of few different cars. I always hated these long bar rear lights. Every car looks the same at night with full length rear lights. Like Merc. And BMW. Like all these manufacturers are using same designer.

I have a 2023 A5 Sportback two liter with 261 HP. Not sure why European version only gets 201. I find it comfortable and fast enough that I don’t need an S version! I’ve owned a couple of 3 series BMW and currently have an X5. Audi drives nicer despite mine having sport package with 19” wheels s!

@@ZeeGreek0307 I’m about to order the new S5. The reviews all say the driving experience is better. It remains to be seen how they are in terms of reliability. But at least the first few years they are under warranty and I may buy an extended warranty if the price is reasonable.

agree… I moved from A5 to 3 series in 2020 and last October got another. 330e touring M Sport Pro with real leather, all the tech. 70k. Still not cheap, but better value for money than this. Hell, you can step into a 5 series M Sport 20i for 70k!

Looks great on the outside, classic Audi with a modern feel. The inside though? Hmm… disappointing 😢 That massive screen just looks cheap. And haptic buttons on the wheel? Surprised VW hasn’t learned from the Golf 8 backlash. But such is the way of the future, I suppose.

Nice looking car on the outside particularly in that blue colour. However, I don't like where Audi are going with their interiors - especially those nasty big screens! Thankfully not all manufacturers are going down that route - ref Mazda, and Toyota with the new 2025 Toyota Camry (not here yet) where they stick with some buttons and normal gear levers, keeping character alive in interior design! Nice review Mark, and thanks for continuing to cover the diesels!

It's good looking but I did like the old coupe version. That back end is a bit duck-tailed for me. My much smaller Hyundai has a bigger boot, but this is a luxury saloon, so they've obviously gone to town on rear legroom. The interior quality is where Audis score. They're nice cars to be in.

Pricing seems crazy for such low power versions, they are pretty decade old engine emissions and power at 2025 pricing. Having straight petrol and diesels in Irish market doesn’t make sense anymore. Only plug in hybrids can work the tax system to their advantage, motorist pays less and gets more power and performance.

I have just taken a new A5 2.0 TDI quattro (204hp) for a test drive at my local dealer. It felt surprisingly sluggish for the claimed power. I did not notice any difference to a 150hp Ford Focus Diesel or Skoda Octavia Probably due to the curb weight. of 1950kgs... As a driving enthusiast, I'd prefer the more agile, lighter Alfa Giulia. And as a father of two, I get more space, value for money and interior quality in a Mazda 6, Citroen C5 X or Skoda Superb than in the A5 - which btw has a very cheaply made and plasticky interior...

I like the exterior except for the rear exhausts which look like two pieces of welded box iron with chrome, interior is nice however, I wouldn't be mad about the steering wheel design. Looking at the configurator on Audi a lot of extras are now bundled in packs similar to what BMW does. For an S-line in reasonable spec and the entry diesel 150PS engine you'd be well over €70k. Mercedes dealers have a dropped the price of the C-Class (at least temporarily) I believe with a C200d in AMG spec starting in the low 60s. It would be nice if they had a plug in hybrid option to complete out the powertrain options

Great video, assuming this was the sport model and not sline (so passive comfort suspension v sports in the sline)? I’ve an older A3 sline and I want to move to something that doesn’t let me feel every hole on the poor Scottish roads. Looks like adaptive dampers is only an option in the S5, so was wondering when you said it’s nicely sprung was it comfort or sport suspension (assuming the former). Cheers !

Yes, all the metallic elements in the interior seen in the previous generation are now gone. Similar story in the new Q5. It's clear they are cutting costs.

Great video Nobby. I think it looks great inside and out but the price is just ridiculous. The one you'd probably want is the s line diesel which is basically a 70k car. And that's for a car with a boot about 50 litres bigger than that of a Skoda Fabia. Consider the value proposition of this compared to a Tesla model 3 standard range. A similar size of car for under 38k. Have always loved the A4 and A5 but I know which one I'd be going for given that price difference

Always enjoy any video Mark shares with us. €60,000 for an SE spec 150hp diesel though , and it'll need €50 in diesel every 500km. Yes, sales rep doing huge mileage need these cars with diesel engines. They are essentially commercial vehicles now. 500km in my EV6 costs me €5.40 in electricity, ten times cheaper to run than a 50mpg diesel. Before someone says, oh but depreciation. The EV6 is not a value haemorrhaging VW ID car, hence I'm trading in my three year old EV6 in January, it retained 62% of its new value on trade in, and i have to pay nothing up front to trade in January for a new one, just a €22 monthly increase. So I get a nicer car to be in, more space, better tech, which is so much cheaper to run and buy. My current car has a 450km real world range, which, in a tiny island like Ireland has never caused me any issue in the 50,000km I have completed. The new one will have a 500km real world range. Please buy these Audi however people, someone needs to pay all that fuel tax!!

The only difference is you do it when you sell the car rather than monthly if you buy a car for 20k cash and sell it for 10k a couple years later you’ve still lost many thousands of pounds yet you look down on someone who decided not to take that hit all at once. If you have 5 cars that means 5 depreciating assets. You lose money 5 times when you sell them all. Why’s that better again? 🤣

I don’t like everything all on touch screens. I like knobs and buttons. I have a 2016 A6 TDI and still love the MMI and the lovey wood trim. It’s a warm space, this new A5 seems too cold to me. Not a fan of these tech changes. My A6 TDI is quiet, can’t tell it’s a diesel and the torque! WOW!. Staying with my old motor. Not looking forward to having to get a new car now.

Looks like a mondeo, which isn't a bad thing, but quality doesn't justify the high price. Screens don't mean luxury, at least to me. The philosophy reminds me of those sedans made from hatchback, Astra, Clio, focus - just because it's longer does not mean it's a6 price is justified. Not with Seat plastic quality levels.

Unfortunately Audi have gone bananas with screens everywhere...Plus glossy black plastic that collect smudges like nothing else..Gone are the nice quality physical controls from the past for climate and stereo...So to me the interior to me are ruined by Audi themselves which is so sad..Having said that Im sure many will like it maybe...But for me I want to drive a car when in the car and if I wanna play with my iPad I would do it at home...IE Im not so into having a car that is an iPad on wheels...But thats just me...

Its not just you. Its a huge part of the market that really hate to have cheap black plastic and screens and wont buy these models. This is not what european cars is about. Europe is about culture and class and thats why people paid premium for european luxury cars. China and Korea do plastic and screens better than the Germans so why try to compete with that? Do better materials and styling and people will pay premium. Also give some options for people who dislike skateboard-screens and want a separates gauge cluster.

Totally agree with you. I've had 2013 Audi with all physical buttons which I could operate without even looking. And now driving temporary vauxhall astra 2024 past few days and it's so bad. Everything on the screen. And have to take eyes of the road. If want to change something. Even tho still have few physical buttons. But still not better than all physical buttons. And I guess everything moving to screen causing more accidents as have to take eyes off road to see what exactly you are touching. Especially on UK's bumpy roads.

@ no, drivetrain is not the same. Skoda Superb uses a different platform than Audi A5. Audi A1, A3 and Q3 are the only Audi’s that use the same platform as VW and Skoda but from A5 and above it is a completly different one, with different suspension, engine is mounted longitudinal, etc.
