Nobody Called Time - Coaches ejected

2 opposing coaches get ejected for crossing the chalk without calling time after their pitcher gets upset. Do you think the run should have scored? #baseballlife #12u #sports

When the coach starts to walk out there and play has stopped, I would call time as the umpire. Then as the new pitcher is warming up, talk to the manager and remind him to ask for time before going to the mound. Easy way to deescalate the situation before it becomes a shit show. Most managers at this level are volunteer parents and need to learn how to be a manager as well.

I agree. I would probably mention it to the coach before he changed the pitcher though.

When I umpired local games, we were taught the umpire should call time every time action has ended.

What am I missing? Some of the offensive players (and defensive players( have dark jersey's and the batter has a white jersey on...?

It’s just that some players don’t have all the uniforms yet since they are newer (we have three)

The volunteer umpires are expected to KNOW and enforce the rules of the game. The same IS EXPECTED of the coaches. Most of these umpires do, most these coaches don't. At one time the coaches played the game, so did I. I thought I knew the rules until I went to umpire school. I KNEW very few.

Nobody called time but you, as the umpire, let a coach come all the way out to the mound during a live ball? You also let the other coach come all the way out to home plate? Understand the game.

I agree 100% (I’m the dad of the kid that slid into home) The coach shouldn’t have been allowed to cross the line without calling time.

It's not up to the ump to remind the coach to call a timeout. Also depends on how the league rules have been inforced during the season. But again it's not up to the ump. I was coaching first and after our last out I went to the mound to hand our pitcher the ball and just to tell him keep up the good work and remember to have fun. Ump counted it as a mound visit 😂. Know your rules coaches.

Wow, common sense not so common. No, they don't need to say, nor is there any specific rule that says he has to say it. I've had coaches just walk out say my name and I call time because it's clear what he is requesting. It's up to the umpire to grant it. If he doesn't, then you can't allow the coach on feild. You have a coach on feild making a pitching change and a live ball. Failed game management right there. Someone get the base umpire a cup of decafe....

Inside of the fences the umpire/officials are in charge. Without a neutral party, chaos can rule. You don't have to like the rules, but you must abide by them. The coach rushing out to the mound did not get the attention of either umpire, coaches fault. The first base coach running down to home plate is allowed as long as he does not enter the field of play or touch the players. At any point during all of this any defensive player or coach can call time as long as the field action has stopped. The coach turning to the official as if to charge should be suspended. Don't assume that the officials know what you want, ASK for time, either umpire can and should grant it.

Umpires should recognize when the coach wants time for a pitching change. Don't look for problems or open a can of worms

Umpires just call time when they reach the foul line. Preventive game management. It ain't that hard

Exactly! We call it and train it as "$hit Show Prevention". Umpire here grants time, by calling "time" (which her clearly was thinking based on his body language) this doesn't happen. Coach taking advantage of it (or trying) was smart but if this was rec ball a bit bush, if a tournament can't blame him.

Take advantage of your oppents blunders, no time should be granted as automatic just because coach comes out. Ball live

@@johnlambing9948 ok then you have to eject the coach for being on the field during live ball. Defense coach CANNOT come out on the field during a love ball

Kind of fault the coach who forced the (non) issue by saying “nobody called time” and encouraged his runner to attempt to score. The golf equivalent would be disqualifying someone for not signing their scorecard in a junior invitational where everyone has a handicap of +20. What good did that move do? What did it teach?
