This is my seventh year playing bagpipes and I have loved every moment of it. Today I played Amazing Grace for Remembrance Day ceremonies and so many people especially the veterans loved it. I find it so rewarding to play for people simply because they enjoy the sound of the instrument as much as I do but today I was asked to play at funerals even though I'm only 14! I'm absolutely honoured to have been asked to play by the funeral home and I hope I'll be able to bring some happiness to the dead before they are put to rest for eternity. But anyways I'm off topic... There are so many people in just Canada who love bagpipes and I speak from experience because every year I go to Cadet Camp for bagpipes, snare drums, tenor and bass drum, and I meet so many new life long friends who love the pipes and I respect that some people might not because hey, I don't like certain instruments. It's a matter of opinion but don't go dissing pipes just cuz you don't like them they're still an ancient instrument and you wouldn't want people to make fun of an instrument that you really like so just respect that it's an instrument. I'm not saying you have to love them or even like them but don't call them boring just cuz they're old I mean we can play really cool modern sounding tunes and there are so many different sounds we can do.... Well I'm done my little rant if you reply please be kind and try not to be rude and also TRY NOT TO FIGHT IN THE COMMENTS!!!!!

+Suzie Osborne One of the best scenes in Outlander, that Bear does the score for is when the bag pipers play in the castle during an important ceremony and everyone is standing to attention and watching them enter with respect. I'm surprised reading that many people don't like bagpipes because most people I know think they are pretty interesting.

ILOVE THIS INSPIRED VIDEO! I have been piping for twenty years. My husband always supported me from beginner to tutor level. He drove me all sorts of venues. When I studied with Aaron Shaw of "Wicked Tinkers" both he and I were piping as he sat on love seat and Mr. Shaw and I both plaid our pipes behind him. Pipes have been rated to sound at 120 decibels same as commercial jet engine. Suddenly Aaron stopped us and begged me, "Can you please wake up your husband. . . I cannot hear us play over his snoring!" When my husband heard the comment in video about people who say they like pipes are only pretending, he laughed so hard he nearly lost it and when I challenged him he admitted he never liked the pipes but just supported me!

REA987 Probably because this is a promo for Outlander, and the shows he mentioned were not shows you would typically associate with bagpipes, and he needed to keep the joke going. Playing the Adams theme from BSG would instantly invalidate his joke, because clearly that is fucking awesome.

Was reminded of this when I saw a post on a Stray Birds song on Radio Paradise where it was noted how divisive banjo is and someone else opined "Not nearly so much as bagpipes. Now, there's divisiveness for you." For some reason that brought me right to this video again. Last year I was in Dunkirk for an evening. As I was walking down the beach and remembered the horrible things that happened here, somewhere a bagpipe started to play "Auld Lang Syne". It was hauntingly sad. It was beautiful. A truly magical moment! Bagpipes are great!

I loved the use of bagpipes in Battlestar Galactica especially in Hand of God and when Galactica dropped in on New Caprica. Amazing when combined with the taiko drum. I definitely need to check out Outlander.

Wow love this! I love bagpipes since I was a small child and even know I'm 33 years old I love them! My friends hates them and think I'm crazy. I even tried to learn to play the pipes but it was really hard. So since I watch Outlander I'm so so happy, I can listen to the bagpipes many times!!!!

Quite a bit different. A recorder isn't reeded. A chanter is the playable part of bagpipes and is double-reeded.
