I think what he meant is that since Starfield was such a hard premise to deliver (having an entire galaxy of rpg exploration), then even if it didn't turn out great it's still the most "impressive" things they've produced, because of how hard it was to make. So there's some sense to that, but just because something is impressive doesn't mean it's fun to play and marketable. It's almost like he's saying "we worked really hard on it but the fundamental idea of the game was just too hard" which is like, my guy, you are a director of the game, you chose to make this game with this unrealistic premise that is holding your team back, if anything that's an indictment of your failure and not an excuse for why the game is so rough. From the very first trailers I've thought that Starfield was an unrealistic pipe dream of an rpg cooked up by some disconnected executives who don't understand what Bethesda is good at and what they can deliver. It is the absolute extreme of the open world buzzword marketing which overpromises and underdelivers. That shouldn't be an excuse for why you didn't deliver something good, in fact it's the root problem that leads you to having such a disappointing product despite putting in these resources.

I got all the achievements on Shattered Space. Did every quest, explored and looted fully 50 locations. It’s EXACTLY like the base game. 6 uninspired story missions with choices that don’t matter. 8 Fedex side quests. Took me two days to do it all for a 30€ yearly expansion and that’s including 100% research on the planet. A few new weapons but not a single yellow except melee weapons (all the same). No house or decent vendor until the story is over. Music mostly the sane as a year ago. No boss fight of any kind (edit I completely forgot about Anasko as pointed out in the comments, there’s one actually). Last mission pits you against 300 enemies which is insanely difficult if over normal difficulty with a lot of modifiers. The original faction quests are still by far the best content in the game. Oh apparently there’s 2 new companions but I didn’t even notice you could recruit them. In my defense it’s really difficult to know where people are on the map and you probably have to find them again somewhere when it’s all over. It’s not bad per se, it’s just the same. The game is also trying to telegraph that you should run at the end. These are all games that launched with a strong enough foundation to build off. Starfield cannot become a masterpiece if the entire foundation is the main issue. The game was built in a way that is restricted by their outdated game engine, so main issues, Exploration, The procedural Planets, The Gameplay loop, NPC interactions are literally impossible to fix. @garythecyclingnerd62193 ай бұрын
@@toptiertech7291 The objective of a public company is to maximize shareholder value. This is the first lesson of business school. Cash flows can be entirely divorced from shareholder value. Look at Tesla, their price to earnings ratio is an order of magnitude greater than GM. However, GM takes in significantly more revenue, and their fundamentals are vastly superior, yet they’re valued less. Large public companies are now engaging in very short sighted behavior in an effort to drive hype and stock value. Ubisoft believed they could do this by hyping investors on games as a service, on predatory DRM, and other anti-consumer behavior. The hype didn’t work because their game suck, their fundamentals fell, and investors bailed to the next company. There were probably hedge funds who made a cool profit off Ubisoft’s failing too. It’s become difficult to convince a board and voting investors to stake $150M on a new IP that won’t have a guaranteed mechanism for ongoing revenue like a large single player game or complete multiplayer experience. A private company can have a 5 year plan and not answer to shareholders looking for a 6-12 month 2x ROI. Bethesda sucks because their leaders have too much power internally and suck at their jobs. They’re owned by MS now and they should kick Todd Howard to the curb.

I know there are devs that are bad at financial management and keeping deadlines. Heck, If i was a publisher that'd be my default assumption until proven otherwise and if I want any sort of success I have to keep tabs on everything that was promised. It is called due diligence and market analysis and feedback and follow up. It is called project management and if you are dealing with an unknown team you, as the owner of the money, need to do those things. There are cases where the blame lies with the devs, no doubt about it. I think Starfield is the perfect example: There is some responsibility on MS$ side but I'd say most of the blame lies with BGS. That is an exception, not the rule. But we are in an era of lack of accountability and _limitation_ _of_ _liability_ and publishers will do anything to avoid that. No deal for me: release too early, too many bugs, excessive monetization, overbudget, underperformed: that is all on the publisher.

I feel like you just said that because you couldn’t think of a real downside for Sony first party games 😂 The Last of Us, God of War, Spider-Man, Uncharted, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Demon Souls, Horizon Zero. They are amazing single player games with good stories, gameplay, no live service, no microphone. Just good games. And you want those to be $30?

Am I insane or can it really be this hard to make a good game? It can't be this impossible for these well funded studios

"Starfield has it's own unique personality"? Yeah it's called BLAND. The blandest, most boring Sci-fi setting ever put into a videogame, or in any form of fiction media, ever. The only thing more boring than Starfield is the real life dystopia we currently live in. WTF is that guy on?

4:25 There's a key point missing here for the whole "You can patch it until it's good" argument. Cyberpunk 2077 post-launch got small bits of additional content that acted as a sweetener but, by the time Edgerunners created the positive sentiment required to convince people to retry the game, it was the base game that they enjoyed now that it was uncompromised by bugs and performance problems, plus enough time had passed for people to judge the game separated from what pre-launch marketing promised. The surrounding issues needed addressing, but under all that there was a good game. No Man's Sky changed it's public perception through post-launch changes entirely and at launch wasn't enjoyable for most regardless of bugs, but a lot of its issues at launch were due to time constraints that didn't allow Hello Games to execute on the core vision for the game that was promised. Today, while it's almost entirely transformed from what it was at release, No Man's Sky is still built upon that original vision and concept. The game was flawed, but the vision was good and there was at least a foundation and design that once built upon could eventually realise it. Final Fantasy 14 as it released was bad, full-stop. It took a lot of support for the game to keep the players it still had and required the creation of an entirely new game in a different engine to replace it before more players would return. You can't fairly expect that kind of self-reinvention from Starfield; the development task is absurdly large and the game doesn't have the revenue streams an MMO or live service has that'd justify development costs. An attempt at reinventing parts of the base game could maybe be possible, but from what's been said by Bethesda leadership like Todd Howard and Emil Pagliarulo in interviews it seems like they wouldn't want the game to be any different in the first place. That'd be fine if the base game's flaws were purely bugs and performance or its core vision and design were sound enough to allow for a better game to be built upon it, but neither is true. Bethesda can't patch it like Cyberpunk, can't build upon it like No Man's Sky, and leadership are willingly blind to the fundamental problems. Leadership's ignorance of problems specifically is the most concerning part. That statement made by Emil has not been misinterpreted to be worse than it is. The statement that Starfield is in certain ways the best Bethesda game made can be considered true for graphical features and procedural generation specifically, but that excuse doesn't cut it. I'm sorry but Assassin's Creed 3 had a global illumination system for its open world in 2012, PBR shaders existed in games at the same time Bethesda struggled to approximate just the PBR workflow for Fallout 4 and, even if you ignore how the focus on procedurally generated worlds has damaged the over all design and UX of Starfield, the game's procedural generation is matched or even outshined by what was seen in No Man's Sky's original launch in 2016. They were falling behind the industry's standards for these things and more a decade ago but there was an element of exploration to their games that made them more than the sum of mediocre parts. Their refusal to admit to the flaws caused by the removal of that element and those mediocre parts now revealed makes hopes for improvement seem pretty dire.

1:26 what are they possibly going to do to fix AC: Shadows? Those games have a formula that everyone is tired of. They’re going to change all of that in a few months? Unless it was about to launch with crazy bugs and they need to fix that, I think the delay is pointless.

Starfield so bad that I actually worry if es6 will achieve even half of skyrim's modding interest. Simplification and broad appeal have limits before you start to have no appeals or discernible gameplay to enjoy and boy howdy, Bethesda has fucking leapt over that line. Cross your fingers guys. In the meanwhile time to start brainstorming how more of the already lean design of skyrim can be trimmed down. Having to choose a stat to raise with each level? New players might not understand that! It's gotta go!

FF14 was not an update or dlc, it was a complete new game, having being labelled ff14 . But they add reborn, because it was complete new game, made from scratch. And by the way, what in a "technical marvel",was bad interpreted...stop defending the undefendable. As Bioware. And take a look, as if the graphism was the problem of Halo. You can make mediocre game with good graphism.
