The book came with a necklace but I lost it along the years and I can't find a single image of it online. Anyway I miss the days when we could just watch animated movies on youtube

My grandpa (and father figure) worked for the animation company who made the Swan Princess. We lived with my grandparents, and there was movie/studio memorabilia all over their house. He was the reason I developed a passion for art. When I was 10, he was diagnosed with early onset dementia, and by the time I was 12, he had forgotten who I was. He passed away when I was 18. I pinned a replica of Odette’s locket on my wedding bouquet with his picture in it, and danced to an instrumental version of “Far Longer Than Forever” at the reception. This movie is so special to me, I hope it’s never forgotten.

Fixing this plot would have been so easy. All you would have to change is the ending, and have the prince recognize Odette when she's in her swan form by noticing a mannerism of hers that he really likes, like her laugh or something. The story would be resolved by the prince seeing beyond Odette's physical appearance and realize what else he loves about her. Do that and add some subtext about the prince wanting to catch this great beast as a "trophy" (mirroring how he views Odette as little more than a pretty trophy) and you got yourself some solid character development.
@BabyGirlTiny
@BabyGirlTiny 3 жыл бұрын
Nah, that doesn’t fix the film. First you have to specify the curse, because it makes no sense that dereks vow of everlasting love has to be said to odette, even if the sentiment is for the original odette. Then you have to give odette a reason to love Derek as well, which the film never recognizes. The film actually never brings up the fact that they knew each other as kids, for some reason so all you have to do is bring that up.
@gage7575
@gage7575 3 жыл бұрын
@@BabyGirlTiny Yeah, those things are definitely necessary as well. It's strange, none of these are huge structural changes to have to make, but would drastically improve how cohesive the film is. Cuz as it stands now, the film is really hard to follow
@gage7575

The prince loving her only for her beauty followed by the princess turning into a swan... That feels like a very obvious setup for a payoff that they don't even attempt to make happen
@BabyGirlTiny
@BabyGirlTiny 3 жыл бұрын
@@gage7575 it is odd how they built up oddette and Derek but then failed to pay it off. All the while they never built up the curse, but breaking it is the biggest payoff in the entire film. It also doent make sense why rathbart would do something that would kill Odette, when the point was to Marry her? That didn't make any sense.

Funnily enough, there is historical precedent for aristocrats placing arranged-marriage children together as playmates in the hopes that they'll get along and actually have happy marriages in the future. Unfortunately, this often resulted in the couple developing a "like-brother-and-sister" dynamic instead, which had catastrophic results down the line.

I still have the dolls. 💖 I gave up on Derek when he tried to shoot Odette as a swan. I mean, even if that was indeed the great animal, he would have killed the beast without even knowing where it’s been keeping her so he would have been just as lost as before.. 😑😑 As for Odette, I’m sure she knew that Derek was immature but still loved her. In her song she even says “You and and I are meant to be.” so she knew that they were soulmates and that he would eventually grow up. Finally, the reason Rothbart decided to kill Odette was because he knew that she would never marry him at that point. He thought that she would eventually move on and forget Derek (as she’s been gone for a year) but the fact that he caught them together proved that she would always love Derek so he stopped caring about marrying her and just decided to get rid of her. It’s better explained in the ballet or the anime version.

The only Not-Disney-Princess movie that want from movie I ever saw was Anastasia. And rewatching it I loved. Rasputin was done dirty. I remember feeling so upset at his behalf when I found out that he wasn't this great villain in history that the film makes him out to be. Instead, he was an healer/advisor to the royal family assassinated by Russian nobles (after a couple tries because this man was unkillable!). But I watched Anastasia the musical in theaters and in it Rasputin was replaced with a Russian military officer of the new regime which was an interesting change.
